No, these are generally pretty bad, with the exception of the guillotine takedown, which is dangerously over-simplified anyway.
@Q5000
@Q5000 5 жыл бұрын
@@martinjasik8977 One example is the spin kick, it is the most telegraphed kick, seen coming a mile away, it takes your eyes off your target, it exposes your kidneys, spine, and back of your head, when you could just do a quick front kick to the solar plexus which is very hard to block and very fast. Also, a lot of the blocks he does takes an unnecessary hand away from the face to deal with one arm when in most fights a second hand will be following shortly after the first, the second of a flurry of blows resulting in your ass getting knocked out while trying to do fancy shit. The arm that is punched out and neatly held in place in forms like he is showing will be pulled back quickly and flailing about. Better to practice the basics, for example, do exercises for improving your slips and speeding them up rather than practicing a rigid combo that includes a slip. If you're not good at that slip you get clobbered anyway, likewise practice your front kicks ad nauseam so they are fast and powerful, and so on with other basic moves. One other thing, a lot of his moves involve opening his hands. This leaves you open to broken or manipulated fingers as well. Most of these combos would only be deadly or useful under just the right exact circumstances. Not what you want to rely on in a real fight.

Most people that start fights do not know how to properly form a stance to defend themselves from a blow nor how to actually land a proper punch to get maximum results to disorient your opponent. If you don't get a chance to try one of these, nine times out of ten you can make it to where you can perform these moves that he's showing. Most street fights you see on KZfaq or other social media is nothing but pulling and constant aimless swinging that doesn't have any power whatsoever.

I think you're well-intentioned, and while we appreciate your effort to teach people how to defend themselves on the street with these 5 moves, the reality is that it's going to be very difficult to pull off most of these moves in a real-life altercation. These demonstrations are nicely choreographed, but they are nevertheless choreographed. You know exactly what's coming in advance because you're staging a demonstration. In real life, none of that's possible, and on the street, your opponent could try all sorts of things that you may or may not expect. To begin with, while the spinning sidekick is effective, I'm not sure the fake strategy you've showed us here will actually work against an opponent. Your fake seems a little exaggerated and an opponent might not fall for it. Furthermore, it takes a while to get a spinning side kick off like that, and most people can see it coming (I know I can). Once you begin the spin, your opponent knows you're attempting a kick, and they'll be able to dodge it. If you miss your target with a sidekick, you lose considerable energy (a point which wasn't mentioned in your demonstration). On balance, your first technique seemed to be the most effective and realistic: any hit to the neck is likely to imperil your attacker. I doubt you'd even have to deal with a counter punch after hitting the neck. Finally, the segment of your video involving strengthening the neck to take hits, is honestly dangerous. That's soft tissue you're largely dealing with and it can't be made to withstand chops, not without incurring damage. Please don't unwittingly lead people to believe that the neck can be made stronger in such ways. :)
@Nope-ur9zi
@Nope-ur9zi 2 жыл бұрын
Yeh I was thinking the same thing!! Altho the ‘throat’ strike is a lot more effective as well rather then the neck strike…but good to c u kno wat ur talking about rather then everyone else in the comments just watching KZfaq saying that they need to b effective strikes 😂😂😂…altho u never kno wat to expect in a street fight u can still learn the fake and if they fall for it then strike, obv no one can watch a KZfaq video and be the best, u NEED TO TRAIN 👊🏿👊🏿

I was wondering have you ever done any videos for people with disabilities who are in a wheelchair with only use of their arms. I would be really interested in seeing any techniques you could suggest for self-defense. I look forward to hopefully seeing some more videos in the future. 👍😀

Hey :-) As a MA teacher who sometimes works with special needs students, (mostly ASD [autism] and ADHD) my advice is to, at least, learn Kali/Escrima, which uses a 26-inch rattan stick. Using a cane (search: Combat Cane) is also a useful skill. These are tools that can be used from a chair. Now, many ppl will tell you to just "get a gun, problem solved". I'm not saying "Don"t". I'm saying: ...also know how to defend yourself if your pistol is no longer in the equation. A firearm is a device and devices can fail due to a variety reasons, or it can be taken from you, etc. Then what??? With Kali you learn how to use household items for close-contact self-defense; pens, pencils, water-bottles, even "grabbers' and brooms... The list goes on. These household and office items are sometimes called "weapons of opportunity". (Whereas a firearm, pepper-spray, rattan stick or cane are "weapons of choice) Frankly, if a person is confined to a wheelchair, to always have a sharpened No 2 pencil in your top pocket can be a smart idea, AS A LAST RESORT. Like "your back-up piece". Maybe I'm wrong, and if I am, PLEASE let me know, but it seems to me that many situations will involve someone looming over you in your chair*. So if all else has failed, a SHARP pencil just might do the trick. If you stick a pencil in someones neck, they will need medical attn very quickly. (Sorry, I got off on a tangent there. :-) Of course, "the plan" should always be to stop it from getting that close. That means: possibly a pistol, CS, or pepper, spray, BUT definitely a 26" stick or cane. (Actually, one of those 'mini-bats' they sell at ball-parks can work. But that's for another day. ;) After spending 30 mins on this post, I see I forgot THE MOST important self-defense tool of all time: Environmental Awareness! Pay attn! Put the smart phone away. *I apologize in advance if presumes something from a bias/lack of understanding. I have Asperger's and am not always verbally sensitive. I can be "subtle like a brick through the window". Pls, pls, pls, let me know. Thank you.

Have you been in a street fight? Also please explain to me why one would do that move on the neck when u can easily throw a cross or uppercut or a hook also the one where he punches with both arms is bullshit. Also unless you already know or are trained in kicking i wouldnt suggest kicking in a streetfight. (Sorry if I came off aggressive I wasn't trying to attack you just pointing it out).

I've had personal experience, 6 years martial arts training, and i can say that these honestly do help. I've taken down a guy twice my size. It's not about who swings faster and better, it's who can keep swinging faster and better over time. My personal favorite one is a double jab with left, go to a long right hook that they see coming, and cross my legs using the momentum of the hook and follow through with a spinning backhand or backfist.

erm... contrary to what is advised in a STREET FIGHT situation, consider the following: 1. your opponent may not be as stupid as you think 2. don't turn your back on your opponent -unless you want to run away 3. fancy moves never work in an actual fight - keep it simple (BJJ, Muay Thai, Savat -works well) 4. only defend/retaliate ... never strike first (before or during fight) 5. the best way to win a fight is: 5.1. avoid fighting at all costs (including cost of ego) 5.2. take control of the fight by grappling and submission -if posible 5.3. when facing many opponents, Parkour works great, or hit/run tactics to pick 'em off 1 by 1.

If you are learning these for a street fight you’ve already lost. Moves without context (that is, learning a defense system) can get you into a lot of trouble. These move are more for intermediate students and better. First move showed neck strike an double first. It’s unlikely you learn this effectively w/o training under a master. Monkey flip is dangerous but if you land it, finishes the guy, don’t run. Same for scissor sweep. That’s and advances move and if you’re enemy I’d down finish him. And his spinning “side kick” is a back kick and is one of the most difficult kicks to get right in any style. If don’t right it’s a knock out strike. Foot position is imperative and this lesson showed poor foot position. If you need self defense lessons go to a school and learn, train and condition. There is no easy path.

even if it did.. what next... he's not going down if he sees the throat shot coming down. Its a natural reaction if he even senses it a little bit to tense the neck and exhale for protection. The tendons in the neck are tough and block the weak parts of the neck and can take that blow (unless your a bad ass). That double punch and the side kick are completely unnecessary and wont work at all other than to annoy someone. Since your already slipping out of the way(hopefully not like him) why not just use that torque you get from planting your weight and going straight into kidneys with a left hook. He will drop like a rock and its way more effective and faster.

Don't be so dismissive of a move. A spinning kick can be very effective. I practiced Taekwondo for years and I have extremely fast spinning kicks. If you've seen anyone use one you'll realize they're not just using it as a stand alone kick but they will set it up. I'm not saying to go crazy with them or anything but they're definitely knock out blows if they land
@jodyberube1113
@jodyberube1113 4 жыл бұрын
@@countercuIture you learned a SPORT. In a street fight, rules are diferent. I shouldn't have to tell you this. Bruce Lee said it best, " never take your eyes off your opponent". Even if you're a high level martial artist, it's just not standard practice in a street fight.
@countercuIture
@countercuIture 4 жыл бұрын
@@jodyberube1113 I learned a sport yes but I put what I know into the streets. Also I'm not trying to be a dick to you here btw because I have respect for any fighter. But I moved into a small town where there is no martial arts place or anywhere to train in what I do so I took my fighting to the streets and that's where I been putting my skills to the test for a while now. I had to set up my own place to fight in a parking lot. Took alot of dedicated but I did it. I don't fight for sport I fight to get better at fighting. Bruce Lee also said to learn everything and throw away what doesn't work and use what does. I personally have not used a spinning kick in a fight yet because I've been working on mostly using my boxing but I'm sure I can apply it somewhere. If you're really good at spinning kicks you can still keep your eye on your opponent but do the spin too. You have to turn your head really fast around but even for spinning kicks you have to look at your opponent. I remember exactly what my Taekwondo master said while teaching me tornado kicks and wheel kicks. Always look at your opponent even while you're not turned to them. I'd love to be able to show you how fast I can do my tornado kicks now but unfortunately we are over text so I can't. I do not agree with using it all the time but you can definitely apply it somewhere. They're very powerful kicks and unpredictable. I also do think there are kicks that can fill in for a spinning kick that are much less risky but they will sacrifice power. I have used tornado kicks in sparring though and I have one instance where I got someone good. So in short I ended up doing a roundhouse kick and the person ducked it and then he was coming back to try and counter and I ended up doing a tornado kick and I got a clean hit in the side of the head. I know it's sparring and not a real fight but it's still a good example of being able to slip one in

1:14 if you block that punch like that while having your arm at this position, you're clearly open for a left hook right in the face, if you don't react fast, at least. 3:10 this feinting can be risky. If the opponent doesnt fall for it, he\she can easily hit you with a body punch or a kick right in the groin. The Spinning Kick is actually a powerful move, i believe. but feinting + spinning kick = a bad combo 4:33 i can't see someone winning the fight after using ths "move"! You're just gonna get hurt. Plus, the Snake Hand isnt used that often. THe opponent is most likely to hit you with a punch to the face if you just stand there like that. Opponents go for the head, leg or body. It's also most likely to get hit by a hold, training the neck doesnt save you from a choke-type move as far as i know. 5:38 again, you're open for a punch to the face. Anyway, the backfist is a good addition. But if you have the opponent at 5:58, you're open for a Side Bearhug if he reacts fast enough. You might get gripped till you're uncncious if you keep attempting to do this Kung-Fu move. A Front Necklock would be better if you're fighting for your life. 6:23 rolling like that is painful, you know that there arent special carpets for sparring and demonstrations in the street, right? Also, i have a feeling that you'll waste too much stamina and endurance to run away after you successfully execute this move. 7:46 this is also used in Savate, not a bad move though. 8:06 another weak n risky feint. 8:08 this move on the street is nearly as flashy as it is dangerous. Your back's gonna hurt if you fall on the concrete like that. I also see that Jake falls before the opponent he's displaying the move on. Also, if the opponent is agile enough... he'll easily counter it. The Scissor Takedown is easily the weakest move out of all these. It's hard to execute and it's gonna hurt your back worse than a strike would in a ordinary street fight. these are my takes on the moves, some parts of the combos were good but overall i find the moves to be weak. I'm not an expert in martial arts, if i've made any mistake feel free to correct me, if i've got something wrong.
