I just started watching these videos yesterday. We have a 1.5 year old GSD/Australian Shepherd mix, who we rescued in March. We took her to Obedience part 1, and she did great. But we didn't keep enforcing what she learned. So her Aussie side came out, and at times, she tried to tell us what to do. We enrolled her in Agility for fun, and she's not solid on recall, on sit/stay, on attention. But after seeing some of your videos here, I began applying the techniques. We are not nearly perfect, but as they say, practice makes perfect. Well, I know she can't be 100% perfect. I need her to get tighter on behavior. And that's really up to me. Dog training is mostly about training the owner; the dog follows your lead. Thank you so far!!

I used to feed my field lab that way, but noticed that when she's made to wait for her food she then eats it as quickly as possible and I worry it's too fast even with a slow feeder bowl. She doesn't do that when I just give her the food. Is there a way to address that?

literally 80% of training is teaching the owners how to do basic things like caring for and meeting their dogs basic needs communicating and being emotionally available as well as helping them training usually falls into place once you have all those things working for you

The loose lead training was the best bit of advice on this guys page. I have a Jack Russell puppy who although intelligent is very self willed. The loose lead has made her happier, better behaved and has contributed to her off lead training, a very chilled out little girl, not a sentence you would connect with jack russells😅

I've never had luck with harnesses. In my experience a harness has always made it easier for the dog to pull harder. I get the best results if I start them on a plastic training collar.

@@jondoe4667 Easy Walk is a martingale loop harness that fastens in front. Completely different from back fasteners. I’ve fitted over a hundred. They work 90% of the time. I also use slip leash and gentle leaders on occasion.

Hi. My thoughts No1 - get rid of the OM is the most difficult dog etc etc thoughts. It sets boundries in your head. Start a training session with this thought and you may as well stay in bed. Change the wording, she's still a novice, or I need to be more clear so she understands. NO2. The leave it is covered in the video maybe OM needs you to start small or more basic. Here in Australia we seem to have more advertising than tv program, so in the ads we train. Tiny steps. As you adopted her you may not know OM association with Leave it, maybe you can start again from the very start using a different command like "dinosaur" something that you can safely assume that her previous life didn't have any negative connotations No3 a decade ago I was in the very same situation, with a black lab rescue. It took months for him to really trust me because of the damaging awful way he'd been treated prior to being adopted by me. I got very disheartened and a trainer told me to, "stop whinging and remember that dog training is a never ending process," comparison of OM to your other dogs is preventing you from coming to the training session with a clean slate and recognising the small gains that she makes. While a little rude what my trainer was trying to teach me is to be more flexible in my own training session. What worked with one dog may not, immediately be a clear win with another. It's midnight here now and I suggest that tomorrow morning, you aim to approach OM with the idea that you can build a strong loving relationship with her, and she will understand, eventually. Break everything down to tiny tiny steps, and practice, practice, practice. No4 my trainer also suggested that I either insist that the dog EARN every nugget of kibble, (which I could do working from home) or at feeding time, I prepare the food for the dog, put it on the floor only once I've sat on the floor. I used to sit with the bowl inbetween my outstretched legs. By this stage the dog will be interested but don't allow her near until YOU decide to walk away. I usually made myself a coffee, and leisurely drank it with a couple of biscuits. Don't talk to OM or have eye contact with her, except when you're telling her to "dinosaur" ... and then you need quiet firm authority, repeatedly, with every expectation of being obeyed, and then go back to your coffee and ignoring her again. When you have finished your coffee, quietly get up, break the command and walk away, if you can, out of the room. I know, sounds odd but I promise it works. Try it twice a day every day for a week and, you should see a difference. I've told this to others with indifferent dogs, all rescues, all with good results. I think the idea is to mimic what the alpha does with the kill. But whatever, it works. It will reinforce this if you are aloof with her during this period, very little eye contact, and only playing on your terms. Anyway hope that the essay helps a little. Try to keep at it. Good luck.

I started putting mine in a sit and stay purely because I didn't want to get jumped on while serving them dinner, turns out it helps with impulse control.

I use meals for a quick review of multiple behaviors: back, sit, down, crawl, stand, wait...OK!!

Just talk to them about what you’re trying to do, they will listen. If they don’t send them videos. They will probably get annoyed and then just end up letting you handle the dog mostly😂.

I live near the beach, so he has enough walk time and socialises with all the dogs in the neighbourhood. He's a really good boy, most of the time hehe

Yeah I have a beagle and he is ahead of me when we walk. He really only pulls when there’s something he really wants to smell and I can’t be mad at that because that’s his breed. However I am working consistently on leave it and stopping him from pulling.

My cane corso is 9 months and exactly the same, I've tried loose lead but jumps to grab it or tries chewing it, trouble is he's now 7 stone and I have to stop the jumping ASAP, watched lots of videos but I'm having difficulties.

This worked for me: stay consistent, if he pull then you stop. Secondly, find an open field and keep changing direction, he'll learn he has to pay attention to you. Thirdly, use a food reward when he walks with a loosely lead and give a vocal reward. You must stay consistent.

Exactly, I just commented that. Also, what about an ancient breed which has a strong sense of using its own mental capacity to think for itself. Left responsible to do things on its own. Train a Briard!

Then don't use them, but use something that does motivate your dog. ;)

I know how you feel my 2 month old daughter won’t concentrate on what I’m saying and won’t even try to walk yet It’s so frustrating but we have to be patient I suppose

What’s the struggle with an eight week lab puppy? They have a lot of energy. You need a lot more patience.

@@darcyshikingdiaries the more training you do the more he’ll understand that good things happen when he listens and whenever you are training and rewarding him the more you’ll bond with him. Be patient and keep up with the training and you’ll be amazed how he suddenly starts to understand what you’re asking of him

Crate trained?

Hi I have a similar problem, I have a 5 year old cockapoo he's an amazing dog training him has been a breeze with sitting, leaving and recall he also runs with me nearly everyday. Sleeps in a crate overnight but if we leave him at home during the day either in the crate or the run of the house he howls until we return. Any chance someone could help me with this? 🙏

Why did you not mention the actual breed?
