I have a 98lb Male Red Doberman that I was never able to walk by myself, until I watched this video and practiced with a HS properly fitted prong out in my backyard, now I’m able to go out for walks with him, he stays right by my side, it’s a beautiful thing to walk a huge strong dog by yourself and is well behaved, thank you so much for this upload!!!!

I have a 7 month old doberman that pulls! I have tried loose lead with treats etc but very hard. I don't like the head collars as they don't learn and just rubs his fur. What size prong collar did u use?? Thanks

As long as it's supervised only and you don't yank, it is one of the best training tools I've used. Only have needed it for beginning of my training also. This man is wonderful ❤️!!

To me this is one of the best videos I’ve watched on a demonstration on using this collar. I’m not looking for my dog to be at my side during a whole walk, I’m looking for my dog to listen to me when called, not pull on the lead for the entirety of our walks, and to not be be reactive. Thank you.

As a mastiff owner, I really appreciate the acknowledgment that it’s ok that they look around but just solidifying the “snap outta it” behaviour and regularly checking-in. Great work!

I agree that this is a helpful video, but one thing that irritates me as a dog trainer is being overly-dramatic. At one point, in the video, the presenter proclaimed that this one of the worst cases that he has seen. The hardest pulling dog in the world???? OH PLEASE!!! That's like calling a Volkswagen Beatle the highest torque vehicle in the world. It's just laughable. I have been called to help an MMA fighter that was being dragged uncontrollably by a pitbull. Compare that to this video. The dog presented in this video is a VERY MILD CASE. Back to the MMA fighter. I had the pitbull under control in less than 10 minutes and doing automatic stops and sits when I stopped. Jaws dropped and he and his wife were taking photos and videos because they could not BELIEVE what they were seeing. Honestly, there was no magic involved. I merely applied tried and proven balanced dog training protocols. It's really pretty simple. It's a shame that reputable dog trainers like me are viewed as performing magic because of the Mal information dispersed by the incompetent positive-only crowd that's supported and encouraged by corporate media.

I know this is an older video but I really hope you see this, my dog milo is a 21kg staffy, last week he pulled me so hard I now have 6 blisters on my hand, one so severe it ripped the skin clean off, bled for days and also got infected and weeped. After using harnesses, flexi leads, spent £100s on training, slip leads, he would pull to the point he couldn’t breathe and his eyes would almost pop. I brought a prong collar after watching so many educational videos, I can now walk him with 2 fingers, he still pulls slightly however not even half as bad as he was. I kept the rubber parts on my prong collar but if he starts to disengage I will remove the rubber parts. I can’t praise a prong collar enough, it’s saved him hurting me and himself.

@martharubio3176 ah hi so nice if you to get in touch, very good, we've been using a prong collar now since this reply but he's so strong he pulls anyway, I have in the last 2 days started using a head collar (just ordered a better quality one dogmatic) but so far much better, he now pretty much walks at my side; when he sees another dog he so wants to play but with the head collar he can't get away from me! With the prong collar he pulled me into the road and that was the last time I used that. So all in all I'm very happy with the head collar. Wow I can't believe how kind you've contacted me thank me, I hope you are well.

I've been a French Mastiff owner for many years and that pup was showing typical FM behaviour, they like to be in charge because they take their jobs seriously. It was great to see that he was allowed to do his protect but under the control of the handler. One of the best video's I've seen on how to correct a pulling power machine! Thank you 🙂

This is a great demonstration! If someone sees a powerful breed with bad manners, it scares them. Training & socialization are crucial. They can't get away with things smaller breeds can.

Just got my first dog. Came from the shelter, and he is quite a beast. Your videos this one and the one with "sandy" did just the thing. He picked up on the direction changes right away. and the eye contact is so huge - great help, thanks so much

In my opinion, this is dog training at its finest! It’s not about inflicting pain on the dog, it’s about using effectively these tools to generate the necessary stimulus for the dog listen to you. There is still a lot of ignorance and misinformation about the prong collar and similars (slip collar and ecollar). It’s great to see conscientious and appropriate use of these tools and their incredibly effective results.

Exactly. All the people that think they are cruel have never used a prong. Same.with ecollars. The same people probably dress their dogs up like kids and push them in strollers. Any tool even flat collars can be abused by people that are clueless about how to use them. Strong dogs or very high prey drive dogs absolutely need tools like this.

I’ve always considered prong collars to be cruel, but watching you apply the use of the technique properly was incredible. I have a 10 month rescue Czech wolf dog, she is extremely intelligent and willing to learn and please me but her lead behaviour towards other dogs has become a problem so reluctantly I am going to try a prong now I have seen how important it is to have her completely under control. They are zero cruel. If you ever used one correctly you would realize they are not. It's like any other tool. You can abuse a flat collar, prong, ecollar if you don't know what your doing. Not all dogs fit one training method. Prong collars work and work great when you know what you are doing. The problem with society is the would rather put a dog down than use a tool that will help train a dog . All bc of the social media bs stigma to collars like prong and ecollar. The prongs don't hurt they are uncomfortable when the collar is engaged just like any other negative punishment.

Yes! Thank you! As an owner of a giant breed who is constantly guarding and isn't food or toy driven your approach makes so much sense. Watching other videos that are based solely on food rewards are next to useless for me, when he *is* interested in food (when at home) he quickly learns only to do the behaviour when I do have food.

There need to be more trainers like you and videos like this. People need to start to realise that it isn't the prong collar that is the problem, but the person using it wrong. People kill people daily by driving recklessly. Doesn't mean all cars need to be banned. Excellent video!

that's like a horrible comparison. Prong collar he said himself pretty much never use it. Very particular and special cases where he uses it. And that's considering he's a dog trainer and people take their "problem" dogs to him consistently and even then he doesn't use it in 99% of cases he said.

Your channel is a goldmine. I've been doing your method for stopping biting, and three days later my pup barely bites, if at all, mostly by accident. I barely have to say an oi and she pulls off and licks it in apology. I've also been trying this with her, and she pays so much more attention to me during walks (still pulls a bit, but so much better, especially since we don't have a sliplead or a prong collar).

Thank you for showing the proper use of prongs. My dog isn't a big dog, only 10kg, however he is very very strong and I have a medical condition which causes my shoulders to dislocate easier. So every time we walked him on slip he would dislocate my shoulder, but on a prong he has only done it once. Prong saved my dog from being re homed. He now lives his best life and only uses prong when we go somewhere new and exciting.

Thanks for all your videos, my family has just moved away so my family’s dog is luckily living with me now but unfortunately his pulling tendencies were never corrected or trained out while he was young. Your videos have definitely helped me start us down a better path! Would love to see more videos like this of behavioral modifications and what to do when the dog gets distracted or pulls away. You’re the best!

What a transformation!!! Very similar to when I put my Saint Bernard through the boot camp course. It changed our relationship for the better and she is VERY obedient and is a joy to be around. Absolutely wonderful video. We have 13 month old English setter Who has been pulling a lot and cut all contact with us when seeing a bird or cat. I watched your video two weeks ago and followed every step of the process. We are very constant with him and I should note that since day one he has changed his behavior. Thanks so much for your dog training content. Please could you do more with emergency cases like Kendrick? We're stuck in lockdown in Italy with no access to trainers and we don't know whether a slip lead or prong collar would solve our problems. We adopted a Belgian shepherd mix after he'd spent most of his life in a shelter (from the age of 1-4). So he's very independent, high prey drive, aggressive to male dogs and not food motivated. A great dog in the home but a very powerful boy and we need to get him retrained and listening to us to save all our lives (not to be dramatic but it's true). Thanks so much for your videos, they're really great, clear and sensible. This one with Kendrick gave me hope!

I just want to say thank you especially for this video. You said it is in this breed that they are not that much engaged as other dogs might be because they are always on guard. I am owning a 5 month old Bordeaux dog and I was so worried because she was not looking that often and was not that reactive as other dogs were. But your video made me so much more relaxed and now only 2 weeks after watching and working with her she now is paying so much more attention and looks for guidance. Of course we still have a long way to go but since then I see positive results. Thank you so much. I really love your videos and your kind of how you work with the dogs.

So pleased to have found this channel.this video is exactly what I needed a couple of months ago before I had to put my mastiff on a prong due to his lack of engagement and lunging out of the blue at random things like carrier bag blowing by in the wind,a ball being kicked,something interesting across the road and other dogs and not always to play ..reactive as he has been attacked by other dogs a few times now in his five years.this was great and has really helped me and reassured me in what I am doing.i really liked the breed specific behaviour info you gave in a no nonsense,to the point vid.subbed😀💕thankyou

This worked beautifully with my Cane Corso. He did pretty well with me, but ragdolled my wife and daughters (9/15yo). He is a different dog on leash now. Perfect training tool. Those short pops and verbal praise got the same results as seen here. Working on heel now. Love your videos sir.

Your channel has helped me tremendously. We recently adopted a Lab mix from our local Humane Society. At 9 mo. he is over 55 lbs. The vets believe he will be 65 lbs or more when mature. He is a very loving dog, very good in social situations with people or dogs. We've been having difficulties walking him - pulling, inattentive, nose to the ground, etc. After watching one of your videos using the prong collar I ordered one: the Herm Sprenger Prong collar. What a difference that collar made on our walk this morning. We actually had a pleasant walk where he remained by my side, not crossing my path or pulling. Your video made a huge difference in my interaction with my new pet. Just had to let you know how much you have helped our situation. Keep making those videos.

I have an American Bull Terrier mix, watched your video on controlling the dog pulling with the golden retriever. I was so impressed I took Max out to the local city park. I had him on a harness but he was still awesome under your instructions. Starting to have problems of him obeying sit order, verbal and hand signal. He is not usually food motivated but will try different treats.

Great demo and a lovely dog! Prongs are IMHO much kinder than nose harnesses (haltis etc). I have used prongs effectively to teach new big dogs to loose lead walk. I also use one for running with my Herder at the start of the run when he’s attached to my belt harness, stops him pulling my spine through my stomach 😄

Love your channel and I am amazed and in awe watching you doing what you do. We have two 9 months old American Pitbull Terriers, American Staffordshire mixed (brothers) already weighting. 85 Lbs each and this teaching video really show up what we are dealing with. One of the two is always guarding when not walking and will just plainly refuse to seat or interact with us. Now he knows commands like Stop, Stay, Come etc.. they both love humans but can be reactive to some dogs and I would suspect that it could in be partly because of us being tense when faced with an other dog. Do you have a good prong collar to recommend, we are in the US. Thanks again for this very informative video and great channel, subscribed and rung the bell ;)

We recently rescued a 50 pound mix ... hound? something. As a friend for our granddaughter (who is 9). I'll start with trying to use the slip lead like you did with Sandy and if that doesn't work we'll move up to the prong collar. Thanks for sharing. Felix the Dog was abandoned, then an older couple took him but he's 100% a ball of energy and they wanted a couch dog so he was dropped at a shelter who took care of him, but he had a crate and a yard. So he was safe and cared for, just not trained. Felix is about 8 months. Anyway -thanks again.

Well done this is the best video I’ve seen on this topic - I’m so glad you’re not using food - I try to explain to people all the time to not use food when training animals - that it just teaches them to mooch - it teaches them to pick up rubbish off the ground - it teaches them to only be interested in you when you have something for them and dis engaged when you don’t- and it makes them susceptible to taking bates from strangers - Praise and correction is the best way to train any dog -it makes the bond and look to you as the pack leader- I had great Danes and I had to use a prong collar on 1 male for a short period of time - they are not a forever tool & when used correctly they’re a wonderful tool - Thank you for taking the time and having the courage to demonstrate this - I know there is so many reactive people out there who really do not know how to train problem dogs - and certainly don’t know how to deal with problem dogs - the fact is that if a dog remains a problem like this it is going to end up being put down - you have saved this dogs life - and you’ve saved a lot of other owners, a lot of pain and problems as well - a game well done

This was such a helpful video. I have a foster dog who is so strong. She is a point mix, and constantly chasing squirrels and deer in my area. She's tried to pull herself in front of cars before and proceeded in pulling me down several times. I was very hesitant to use a prong collar as they seem so mean. But this video has given me the direction and confidence I need to use them appropriately in order to correct her behavior. And then hopefully her leash manners will be enough to get her adopted! Thank You!

Me too! Our foster is very good and loves dogs but I worry the pulling will lead to leash aggression if not prevented. Plus it's a pain to walk her!

I was against prong collers in the past because of thier rep and the harm I have seen caused when used incorrectly. However, after seeing you speak before and now this I'm 100% beind you Will if it means saving a dogs life or preventing it from being given up then to me some slight discomfort is well worth the end result. Keep it up!

I have been watching your videos & trying some of the lessons. I have taken a Lab/Spaniel fro a rescue centre. Pippa is 4 years old & has been kept in a crate all her life. Hoping the leash one works but she has never been out or trained in anything so I know there is a long road ahead. She reacts with lots of things but mainly dogs & is uncontrolable when one approaches. Will keep watching as I want to do my best for her. She is a very affectionate dog at home. Aw, such a gorgeous dog. Him loving on you around 11 mins was beautiful. I'm just about to try a slip lead on our 6 month old amstaff x for the first time and excited to see how she goes. I really value these videos, you are an excellent trainer and educator. Very similar to how I used to train my horse to lead!

Excellent! A prong collar saved me with my 130 pound rhodesian ridgeback. He was a pulling beast. I only had to use the prong a few times, then never again.

Brilliant, we have a 4 month old large American Bulldog puppy, he is a puller, I've went from harness to flat collar, seems to be working, but this is a great video for when he is older and bigger should the pulling return, thank you.

hi, first of all thank you for this amazing video! it's a real eye opener for me. I do have a question. the prong collar is prohibited in the netherlands. will I get the same effect with a slip line?
