As a rule, Nathan is correct, don't limp . If it's good enough to open, it's good enough to raise. I sometimes use limping as a deceptive play against overly agressive opponents. Not often, but it does have a place. Limp->3bet? Yes! If you have a strong hand and are reasonably sure your limp will draw a squeeze from the agressive player it's a move that puts them in a bad spot. This will sometimes open an opportunity later to see a cheap flop with a marginal hand too. But... honestly, just raise first in, it's a better play 99.99% of the time.
@ElJefe0719
@ElJefe0719 Жыл бұрын
The point is, your flop bet is much more likely to get credit and generate a fold when you RFI.
@jppagetoo
@jppagetoo Жыл бұрын
@@ElJefe0719 All that and more. It keeps the bad hands out before the flop so you don't get out-flopped. It also is more likely to get you heads up which is much easier to play. So many good things happen when you RFI, Why not just do it instead of trying to see a flop cheap with a bad hand? My side play was for purpose, just to show a limp can have value, but if you don't practice the limp-3bet you are just as far out of your normal gametree as the villain. For most players, it is better to avoid limping.

As a beginner I watched this like ‘don’t limp against the c fish, always bet against a flat handed fish flip. But never against a c card double ace pair flop, as that makes it harder to be aggressive against the table squabble’ - that’s my advice.

Most of the time regarding limping, is that you should absolutely should avoid limping first in. However, when you’re at one of those annoyingly aggro tables where you constantly get 3bet, limping with speculative hands(suited connectors, suited aces, and small pocket pairs) can actually be a viable strategy. Giving up control over the pot can be an acceptable compromise in exchange for actually being able to get to a flop at a reasonable price. There’s no point in constantly having to cough up 10+ big blinds every time you want to set mine with pocket 3s.

Great tips man! About the 'never limp' advice.... at low stakes cash games online, everybody limps and nobody seems to care if you 3 bet pre flop. Then you don't know where you're at on the flop. I find this can bleed money to low quality hands hitting the flop.

Well I'm really new to playing and I guess I'm just not getting the hang of things. I tried waiting for good hands, pocket pairs, high connected cards. I don't limp in but try and make an appropriate raise, 3-5 times the bb. I just wind up losing more as the flop turns up nothing time after time. Or worse I hang in there for the river. I must be doing something wrong. 😔

Question: I'm a new player and I am trying to follow your strategy. In one game I had pocket Aces. The guy to the right of me (a fish) goes All-in pre-flop. That put me off a bit so I folded. The flop reveals another ace and in the end I 'could' have won. Should I have gone All-in as well? - That's the real question though: how do I deal with pre-flop All-in players?
@mrk131324
@mrk131324 2 ай бұрын
There is no better hand then AA, so there is absolutely no reason NOT to call any pre flop all (in cash game). Remember Poker is the game of rule of lange numbers. Even if you are unlucky and loose such an all in, you will win it many more times when you play it again and again like that.

While playing with friends where everyone is fish i have a feeling they won't go with nothing or weak hand often. They limp af, very often. If i bet 3BB, 3-4 of them will probably call to flop. And then there is high chance I will be beat. Although I think I will try this strategy with very much discipline next game.

This is more geared towards cash games, where you can basi always be atleast 100 big blinds deep. I used to play way to tight in tournaments and just fold to death unless I got super lucky. How are you even in the flop with a weak hand if you don’t play weak hands pre flop. Look forward to not getting a reasonable explanation for this. What every now and then he gets bored and just bets a weak hand? Only explanation is he’s BB and the button or someone else has called, otherwise it makes no sense.
