I'm Hayden Hillier-Smith, on this channel I will break down what makes good editing...pulling back the curtain on how editors make the choices to keep YOU, THE AUDIENCE engaged. This includes showcasing the creative choices I have made.
And exploring the editorial process for other KZfaq channels in how they have optimised their content. I’m even going to take you through my journey where I experiment on how I can become a better editor and learn through my experiences.
Whatever it is that I do on this channel, I hope you can learn something and discover your own ability on being a content creator yourself.

I wanted to say real quickly that I've been a self taught editor my whole life, and there have been many frustrations ive came across in making my own content, but your speech in the end reminded me that I can learn to create projects that seem impossible for my current abilities. Regardless, I have a strong passion for this kind of stuff, which is why i am taking the time to take notes and watch all the videos I can on how to become the best editor I can become. And what you said pushed me to pursue more, thank you!

1. Respect your audience's time (don't focus on 8 or 10 min vids for adsense) 2. Matching eye using a frame guide 3. J Cut - overlay your audio between cuts to make them smoother 4. You will be a good editor, have a positive mindset! 5. Create outlines (cuz not all of us can improv) :P The eye level thing seems so obvious but holy sh*t.... that makes a huge difference! I would love to see not only the ‘why’ of editing, but the ‘why’ of storytelling, filmmaking, etc. So many filmmakers and content creators do tutorials on editing and filming. While all of these creators share their knowledge, they don’t explain the WHY like you do. so many people don’t want other’s techniques and styles forced on them, they want to understand the ideas so that they are able to create their own styles and tell stories in their own way. You were asking what you want this channel to be - stick with this. From what I can tell, this is something new that thousands of people want to learn. Great video btw, love the explanation of J cuts (don’t forget L lol)

My favorite part was when he talked about the self doubt.... That is definitely a huge problem when you spend hours making a video and then you watch the final cut and hate it because it's not as good as the way you visualized it in your head. Here's how I overcome that obstacle.... Instead of saying "I don't know" I say "how do I?" Or "I get to figure out something new". I still suck at editing videos but I'll get better. That's another way to overcome your self doubt. Remind yourself your going to get better.

You are such an amazing storyteller. And I love the psychology part you seem to be adding into your videos. The fun thing is that I already meant to say this and then in the end you mentioned the speech part. Well nailed it then, in my opinion. You might not be able to see it yet in my videos, but I've already learned a lot from you and I'm trying to incorporate it bit by bit. Thanks so much!
