One more tip. When you buy minnows put some snow or ice in the bucket to gradually drop the water temp in the bucket. If you take minnows right from the bait shop to the lake the drastic change in water temp will kill the minnow.

Yes. That’s a great tip! I am actually editing a video for Virtual Angling right now and I mentioned that very same thing in that video.

Thank you. Great information. Some of which I did not know. I was just thinking the other day about the hook set in minnows with a single hook through the back. Now I know.

Hooking a single hook side to side instead of front to back is exactly how I lost a big fish a couple weeks ago. It would’ve been my PB walleye if that’s what I hooked on the finicky fooler, but when I reeled up my line the hook was doubled back into the minnow exactly how you described it. Now I know for next time 😅

Suckered verses shinners made alot of sense how they swim.

Thanks for the tips. I never really thought about it before, but I have noticed on my flasher that shiners tend swim up above the sinker.
@calebwistad
@calebwistad 6 ай бұрын
Exactly! Or even when you drop them into the hole, shiners are always trying to swim back up.

I watched that 1 sec. demonstration multiple times of you hooking the minnow with a treble hook and it was so quick I couldn't tell what you were doing.
@calebwistad
@calebwistad 5 ай бұрын
Sorry! Basically I’m just putting one prong of the treble hook all the way through the minnow just under the front of the dorsal fin and into the minnow about 1/16 of an inch.

Try hooking minnows as low as possible in the belly. They swim well, last long and for whatever reason I catch more fish than others.

@calebwistad

Totally depends on the species I’m chasing. Typically I like to go the same or a little lighter than my mainline unless I’m fishing pike and need heavy leader for their teeth.
