I found that backing my spinning reel spools with small thin rubber bands then raparound the spool 3 or 4 times tie slip knot then spool my braid line on the reel power pro is by far the best braid line on the market but suffix very close 2nd good call on the brand But their is one other very good brand I like also and bit less expensive is called REACATION TACKLE BRAID can't go wrong with this braid very smooth strong thin line 1200yrd spool $40 vs $115 or more for power pro 1200yrd spools need to really check this braid line out good luck GONE FISHING 🎣

Here's a better method. Anywhere there's N Pike, there's perch/walleye. No reason to keep to northern pike.
@calebwistad20 сағат бұрын
Pike are much more prevalent here where I live than walleye and certainly keeper perch, and there are very few lakes you can consistently catch walleye during daylight hours. (Low light bite) so pike are the best daytime option for a fish fry. (I would rather eat pike than walleye anyway. Perch are best though)

My friend on Lake Erie says the belly meat is where contaminants are concentrated, and should be cut off. Any truth to that?
@calebwistad20 сағат бұрын
That’s probably true to some degree. There is more fat in the belly meat of most fish and fat is where the contaminants build up. Those big walleyes in Erie could definitely have some heavy metals build up.
@mihkalipennanen347Күн бұрын
Great tutorial! The info on the meat next to the skin was new info for me. Gonna try removing the red meat next time I fillet. I have a question too: there is a small amount of bones in the belly side tail part after the body cavity. They are like an extention of the rib cage, but embedded in the meat. Dont you like to remove those?
@calebwistad20 сағат бұрын
Some pike appear to have them while others don’t. I usually either fillet them out if I can feel them or I just toss that little section.

Just like Rabbits. At the moment. Walleye or Husskies etc are good eating. ( always will be ) but. After miximatoxes. Rabbit disease or the North lake fish Flukes. Etc. makes people say. Hmmm open that can of tuna. .. truth. If you’re hungry. These fish are the tastiest Bits of white flesh ever.

Jack pike is very bony. These pike s are tiny. A full adult male pike is around 30lbs. Ok
@calebwistad2 күн бұрын
Small pike have the exact same amount of bones in the exact same spots as a larger pike. They fillet exactly the same.
@rogerpartner26482 күн бұрын
It’s like oooh TROUT SOO NICE. . Etc. trout is just as bony as pike - Carp Silver break Bronze breams Infact 100% of fresh water fish are bony as hell. And you Gota Eat them. Carefully. The PIN bones in the Fishes side fillets have literally 700 bones per side. But The worst thing to do is slice them randomly up. Then you got 2000 tiny 4mm bones. You gotta fillet properly then soak the Fillet in White vinegar Etc. for days. . Or use Wife’s Tweezers to pull all the Pin bones. . But all this aside. The actual WHITE -GRAY . Meat Is especially Tasty. Few spring onions tiny grate of ginger. Garlic. Proper tasty.

Yes. Fillet them properly and they are easy to eat.

Hey I’m going native brook trout fishing up in New York a lot of wild brookies I’m using 10lb mono going down to a little tippet ring going down to 5x tippet to a dry fly is it ok if I use a very small bobber to fish dry flies on a spinning rod like a trout magnet bobber will this still be successful even in small streams?

Funny that you say medium light because I actually prefer my jerbaits on a medium heavy purely because when I cast I feel like I can actually use the weight of the lure
@SilkyXShadowX2 күн бұрын
Granted I don't own a medium light but I may pick one up
@calebwistadКүн бұрын
Medium Heavy will work but you do stand the chance of losing the fish much easier with the light hooks that come on jerkbaits. I prefer to have some flex to absorb head shakes during the fight so the hooks don’t tear out.
@ChrisG99782 күн бұрын
On smaller panfish like crappie an electric knife won't be a major time-saver over a conventional blade. For larger fish, electric knives make a huge difference. I'm not great with a conventional knife and cut through backbone, etc. every now and again. I own a Bubba Pro series Li-ion, the blades just rip through with far less effort compared to a conventional knife...the flex blades ride perfectly along the backbone and don't cut through it. Once you get used to the powered reciprocating blades, there's no going back to conventional knives.
@calebwistad2 күн бұрын
I believe it would work well on larger fish. I just need to use it a little more and get some more larger fish under my belt I think.

Bleed and gut your fish right after you catch them

Spooling like that put a pile of twist in the line. For bait caster it would be fine

It’s going to put some twist in the line but not much. Enough to matter on mono but I’ve never had any issue at all with braid using this method.

Appreciate the "pro" filet tip. After watching you perform it, I actually think I might prefer it-makes a lot of sense to open up the belly to minimize gut contact, and it really produces a nice, clean filet, as compared to the traditional method. Is the "pro" style your preference now?
@calebwistad4 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yes. I prefer that method now. I also am using a similar method for walleyes that I will be putting a video out soon on.
