Top 5 Freediving safety tips! Freediving safety has always been very important to me. I get asked a lot about freediving techniques and freediving tips but I really do believe that the most important information that I can offer and spread is freediving safety.
If you find the information in this video useful share it around. It's up to us to create a strong and safe freediving community around the world.
In the video I talk about:
The use of the snorkel
Weighting for freediving
Diving with congestion or with a cold
Why not to exhale underwater
Recovery breathing

I was diving in southern California and I heard a weird snap or click and I felt a sharp pain in my jaw. I was spearfishing and I had found a huge patch of nice fish in the shallows (15-30 ft) like 4 to 10 meters and then I felt that pain, I took off my mask and I looked inside. I was like, oh crap theirs blood?!?! Then I swam back over to my boat and almost caught a nice blue shark. Keep doing what your doing Adam, it helps people understand and be safer when freediving. -Jackass penguin the young spearo

I have gone in and out of freediving clubs various times. I suffer from severe social anxiety, people mis interpret my behaviour. This always leads to not being able to make meaningful connections/friendships. I have reached an intermediate level mostly on my own, not by choice and I realize it is dangerous.. I just have no other choice it seems.

I think this is the reality of many people - unfortunately, the instructors take the ‘abstinence’ approach similar to conservative sex education. this means lot of what can be done when alone, aren’t discussed at all.

I don’t freedive (my max is 15 feet ish, I just dive to explore when I swim in sounds and lakes and such) but I am interested, and these tips are relevant to me even now! Hi Adam, really love your videos, both entertaining and educational. Is there a way to know if your sinus lesion has healed or not and it's safe to go diving again? You mention widely varying healing periods, so how do you know if you're healed or not, other than going into the water to see whether you bleed again or not?

From the very first start of freediving a little bit blood was coming out of my nose. Not at every dive or each session. But from time to time. How ever, in the end of 2015 I got a bad sinus infection which turned to be chronicle. Today it feels way better. But deep diving is still not possible. After a couple of descents my sinuses doesn't equalize anymore :-(

Well if you have a 5 minute static breath hold them you should be able to do dives longer than 1 minute. I think the best approach will be to just take it slow and slowly over the next few months start to extend your dive times. it may feel uncomfortable in the beginning but you will gain more comfort in time
