5 Hip Pain Relief Stretches & Exercises You Can Do In Bed

These hip pain relief stretches & exercises don't necessarily need to be done in bed, but they may help relieve hip pain in the morning before getting up, and/or when going to bed at night. Buy a worksheet with these stretches & exercises at: www.askdoctorj...
Hip pain can be from a number of reasons. Often our hips will be really stiff when we first wake up or after a long day on our feet. The stretches and exercises can easily be done in your bed.
The first two stretches are an active assisted (AA) hamstring stretch and a knee to chest stretch. These will help stretch the muscles that are connected to your hips/pelvis and help relieve pain and tightness.
Next pelvic tilts and bridges are a great way to not only loosen up the hip and pelvic area, but they also help strengthen your core muscles as well.
Finally, a straight leg raise (SLR) will help strengthen your hip flexor muscles.

I’m 13 with the Sickle Cell Disease. My hip pain comes even if I follow the conditions on how to AVOID my hip pain crisis and I don’t know why. This helped very much!

Thank you so much! I did this yesterday and could barely do any of the exercises because it hurt so much, I did it today in the morning and it was still painful but not that bad anymore, now I did it in the afternoon and the pain is completely gone!

@@AskDoctorJo i know I’m late but hip pain is very common for me because I have SCD. (Sickle Cell Disease) and I’m only 13! But your exercises didn’t really make all of the pain go away, but it did take 97% of it away, thank you!

Just wanted to come back and said that this exercises work! I’m in my early 20s and started having some hip pain on the outside of my hip after working up and lifting weights. I did the exercises at night and immediately noticed the pain had ease. The next morning my pain disappeared

I climb up and down on machinery all day long at my job. At 57 yrs it has done a number on my joints, specifically my hips. I found this video in an attempt to alleviate some of the pain thats been waking me up at night. THESE exercises have totally helped to rid me of most of the discomfort I have had. Thank you SO very much for these 5 stretches!! I am able to squat down with minimal joint pain and rarely wake up in pain anymore. Oh, and Ive only been doing these stretches for a week :)

So glad that I found this. Every since I purchased this Foam Mattress Topper I have been in pain sleeping on my hips. When I get out of bed I have to walk pain out and when I walk for long periods of time I feel slight pain in my hips. I will try to do these every night and some mornings. Thank You! Wow...the hop rolls do actually help. I do the "lift knee, bring to chest" myself to get rid of pain, didn't know it existed in physiotherapy. I love Jo's video bcos she doesn't waste time and gets to the point. Will be watching more of Jo. I love you Jo, plz keep these exercises coming. Dr. Jo - What exercise(s) do you recommend for side-sleepers who have pain that starts about 5-10 minutes after sleeping on a side, and an associated ache that lasts for a few minutes after turning to the other side, which for me luckily does not cause the same issue. Thanks for you feedback.

Hum, you and I can relate. I've been there. Put a pillow in between your knees and make sure your lower back towards your upper back has a little support too. You want your back to be balanced, a line that is straight. If your back is bent, crooked, it will cause more pain and ache. So we have to elevate the pain off the disk of our back. Hope this helps
