I'm a little suspicious at this point that the built in language barrier in Tunic might have been based on the developer's own experiences, they seem like the kind of guy who imported obscure Japanese games while not knowing a lick of Japanese.

By far my favorite indie game to come out recently is Dave the Diver. It’s a “fishing” type game, but instead of just using a fishing rod, you gear up and take on the fish in the ocean, using a harpoon gun. You also get to use said fish to run a sushi shop. It’s still in early access, but I would argue that it is absolutely worth your time

It's also a good excuse to throw some of my favorites in the comments for everyone! These are some of my favorites that I've played in the last year or so. Haven : An actiony romance rpg about 2 lovers stranded on a planet. Really great story and soundtrack, loved it so much I bought the collectors edition. Beacon Pines : A storybook visual novel esq game about 3 kids in a weird town. Multiple choices flesh out the story where you find options that allow you to progress different branches. Pegglin : It's peggle with a lil green goblin, but as a rougelike.

Pizza Tower singlehandely revived my passion for video games. I like games obviously, but the unbelievable fun and engagement I had with PT is incredible. I'm so tired of platformers (and alot of genres) being so bloody derivative or just fine or relying on nostalgia bait and barebones level design to be called a masterpiece (I'm looking at you Mario Odyssey) PT made me realizes games can be stupidly fun and innovative like they used to be. I hear Celeste is pretty good too, so now I'm intrigued in whatever the indie scene has to offer. Because god, Nintendo sure as hell cant seem to satisfy my platformer needs.

Fine, I'll buy Tunic! Meanwhile, I have a few recommendations for you. Mortal Sin - solo dev first person action roguelike game with an absolutely awesome art style and very fun combat. On paper it's a very simple game but I find the mix of classes, weapons and passive skills on top of the combat system that encourages animation canceling and different types of combos to be very addictive. Against the Storm - Roguelike citybuilder and one of the few games with roguelike elements where it feels justified in being a roguelike. Each session is 1-2 hours and each run does really feel different as there are many ways to achieve victory in each scenario. I know citybuilders aren't most people's cup of tea (I don't really like them myself) but this game is really well done. Signalis - if you enjoyed Resident Evil 1 or Silent Hill then you'll likely love this. One of my favorite indie games of all time. If survival horror is something you like just buy it and go in blind.

I wholly reccommend the tactical vehicle-based shooter "Brigador" a game about a company who wants a planet back after the population rebelled so they pay brigadors (you) to blow up strategic targets you also get paid for anything you destroy ...including civilans there's also alot of lore in paragraphs about the various weapons, warcrimes, and factions you deal with

I don’t know if this would be in your wheelhouse or if you already know about it, but Deep Rock Galactic is a game I keep coming back to. The best way I can explain it is that DRG is a PvE multiplayer class-based horde shooter / mining operation. You play as a dwarf in a space mining company trying to complete various objectives on a planet whilst being hunted by various monstrous bugs. The level of tom-foolery, intensity, and camaraderie I’ve experienced in this game is incredible!

Dude, I'm sitting here, my brain still cannot comprehend how underrated ProjectMoon games are. And I dont mean just library of ruina. All of them, the gradual dive into a post singularity world dystopia, chipping each of its concepts, the slow burn of the growing chaos, slipping out of hands each time you feel comfortable... To see how far we've gone from Lobotomy Corporation in it's Alpha version, through Library of Ruina being a completely different genre, and now Limbus Compay - a gacha, that doesn't feel like gacha??? I made my personal mission to make as many people aware of those games as possible. Because of unique setting. Grim, dark and surreal stories. Amazing OST. And you know who likes amazing OST.

Do, however, be warned. Those are incredibly inconspicuous in complexity, and take a moment to unravel, as they base of tugging carpet under your legs gradually. This franchise is not a short term dedication.

@@andymcclurg9916 It plays like Resident evil or silent hill where inventory management is key since you have so little and you have to manage your resources like ammo or healing while at the same time solving puzzles and unlocking new areas.

I love these videos so much because I also enjoy finding new games to play. My only recommendation for now is a game called SPOOKWARE, a silly little game about skeletons with fast paced minigames and charming writing. It's super enjoyable to play and I think everyone should play it :D

thank you for bringing more indie games to light. i am a relatively baby gamer and since started i have always been way more interested in indie titles, especially compared to the current state of AAA titles (i dont think a single AAA title released this year so far had a decent launch). i hope as time goes on more and more love is given to these smaller titles; they definitely deserve it

This is the first of this series of videos I've seen by you and unlike similar videos I've seen before where the recommendations often feel too short and general, your description of each game was so in depth and engaging that by the time the montage of game clips finished for each game, I forgot I was even watching a video about multiple games

Tunic is unique and I love what they were trying to do truly. Many good moments and a couple unsettling ones like a miasma spider running off in the islands area and the obelisk factory. Finding pages for all kinds of secrets and foreshadowing events in the game is nice to. That being said, the combat is liquid shit and every time I boot up the game to try and beat the cathedral’s gauntlet to continue the game, I’m reminded how terrible it feels.

your editing is amazing, the modding in bassfishing music part got me dying lol. need to say metal hellsingers approach of "instead of programming music to adapt to gameplay, the player now needs to adapt to the music" is very neat and a cool combination of genres if that makes any sense.

Holy shit. I absolutely loved tunic, but your analogies to not understanding all of the aspects of a game as a child, and even picking up a used game at the store hit me like a freight train of nostalgia. I just experienced vivid flashbacks of loading between my save and the “person who owned the game before me”’s save in oracle of seasons to try and figure out where to go and what to do in a game that I didn’t fully understand. You made me cry bro… but in a good way lol

I dont know if you have covered Katana Zero before, but it is one of my favorite indy games. Its a 2d sidescroller action game where you play as a katanaweilding, bathrobe wearing, time manipulating assasin in a futuristic dystopia. If you havnt, you should give it a try, its the first game I 100%, which required me beating the insanely challenging hard mode and speedrunning the game, which was my very first speedrun.
