Thank you! I appreciated your advice on this topic. My first time hunting deer this year. The rut was pretty easy I thought on private land, but I'm struggling a little with public late season. The weather just turned cold here, and I was able to locate a food plot near to public land with deer as I was leaving today...so hopefully tomorrow I can find some tracks in the area I'm going!

Another Excellent video. I'm new to hunting and went through rifle season without getting my first buck. Saw lots of does but held out. Want my first deer to be a byck. Been practicing my bow for about 20-30 mins a day for 2 months and going for my first bow hunt tomorrow. Need to thank you for your content on yt. It's what helped guide me the most through figuring out hunting. Right down to the broadheads I'll be using tomorrow. For real, I truly appreciate the effort you put into these and giving information that took years to accumulate.

Happy Holidays to you and your family Jeff.. learned so much from your channel.. we didn't have the time and priority to plant all out food plots this year, only 40% got planted. Add that to the fact that our area is mostly mature hardwoods. It's a desert here.. literally 75% less deer here compared to last season.. I don't consider it a total failure because I learned from it. Next year we will have at least an acre of food and these trees are coming down to make cover and regeneration. The plot will be up front so we can maximize depth of cover. Thanks for another great season of videos, you are very appreciated.

I only buy 2 to 4 tags per year in Michigan. I buy the combo and two antlerless tags and that's it. I don't always fill them either. My hunt is over now though I spoked the buck I have been hunting for a couple weeks now. Highly pressured 100 acre state plot. Only access I have to him is through a creek I dump into it and move SLOW. Well invisible ice I broke on accident and he hoped up right in front of me about 30 or 40 yards and ran no flag so I sat down and grunted once and hoped he would turn around but he never came back I sat for awhile knowing the hunt is gone now. So I followed his prints and he never stopped once he b lined and ran miles away

I'll tell you deer prefer snow white pumpkins over regular orange pumpkins. When I lived in the city they always ate those ones and left the regular pumpkins till the snow hit the ground then they would hit the regular pumpkins. But if you can do clover wheat rye beats ect ect I think would be better than pumpkins but also never hurts to have something they are familiar with that not many others near you have. You can always grow them on the edges of your food plots it cant hurt. However if you're asking because you have permission to hunt a pumpkin patch then yes do it lol.

Merry Early Christmas to you and your family Jeff. I am beginning to turn old overgrown pasture into food plots, security cover, and regeneration (6 acres). I plan to cut the Junk-trees flush with the ground and remove the trees. Do you think that I can simply drive over these "flush to ground" stumps while working the food plot, i.e. drive over them with the ranger or atv while pulling the culit-packer? ... The junk trees are 6 -12 inches in diameter... I want to use your strategy of planting Buckwheat in late spring and then culti-packing it after I have over-seeded early to mid-August. (Ideally it's probably best to "grub out" those stumps with a dozer, but that is a big expense for me). Many thanks!

Well said:”Shooting does where needed “. Some people think they should be able to shoot bucks and does. There is places like here in northern Quebec where there’s lots of deer. Everyday you see dead deer on the side of the road that got hit by a car and this is where there should be more doe licenses issued. But they have to be careful on how many doe licenses are issued, bucks can’t give birth to fawns.

Yup I’m grinding it out here in the he thumb of Michigan in vassar, I still haven’t killed a deer yet seem to me that the deer were so heavily pressured that I walked in along way to a lot of spots amd the people pushed these deer to the limit and thier ghost I haven’t seen a deer in a month and I’m talking everywhere I only seen 4 dead deer on the road from cars all season I hats not good they might have got that ehd around here becuase I’m hardcore at hunting amd I’m very upset that I never ever been so desperate to shoot one I’m at that stage where if it’s brown it’s down. Thanks for all you did for us the really shitty part is I hunted Casscity and nothing thier either. Thier nocturnal since bow season hundred million people were out this year sad part is that I he tags are you choose what to shoot with your first tag and everyone was allowed 12 tags two bucks 10 doe or all doe nd seems they did a number on the deer cuz thier all gone during daylight or dead pertty sad what these people did to our deer herds. They want them all dead cuz I talked to dnr this summer and thier fed up with the numbers out of whack so instead of drawing for doe tags it’s replaced with kill them all tags. Wtf people we need doe for baby bucks for the future. Politics will kill them all if they can.

If you asked me a year ago if i wanted to watch videos from someone that primarily targets bucks on groomed land, if have probably laughed. The reality is that your grooming has really given you the insight that a lot o people could never have. Completely changed my mind about things and have learned a bunch. Im still not clear on why shooting does reduces the population because 1 buck can sire many, many fawn. Do the deer have an offset birth ratio that favors male fawn?
@JohnDoe-xq8sk
@JohnDoe-xq8sk 2 жыл бұрын
I'm unsure why you're unsure that shooting does which have the babies causes less deer? Lol it's pretty self explanatory. Shoot one doe that's possibly 4 deer the next season that aren't there more likely 3 or 2. Now you shoot a buck and it's one less deer the buck you just shot...
@andrewbrown6522
@andrewbrown6522 2 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-xq8sk Around here 1 doe is 1 fawn. They will give birth to doubles sometimes but rarely see them with more than 1 by spring. Whereas 1 buck might be sire to all the fawn.
@andrewbrown6522
@andrewbrown6522 2 жыл бұрын
Id say we have a 6 or 7 does to 1 buck ratio. I won't try to say i know all the local bucks but have a pretty good handle on it.
@JohnDoe-xq8sk
@JohnDoe-xq8sk 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewbrown6522 often areas where food is plentiful you'll see more twins but usually you have to have good predator control also so I agree one fawn but one fawn may have been sacrificed for that other one you do get to see. So technically speaking shooting one doe is usually taking 3 or less deer from the next spring. One buck can mate many does as you said so we can shoot more because like you said only one needs to be in like 10 sqaure miles to find these so called unmated does.

Every hunter in OK needs to watch first few minutes of this video regarding killing does. Too many people think it’s ok to shoot as many deer as they have tags for that year. It’s just terrible management and the tag limit in this state needs to be lessened. 2 doe and 2 buck per person limit is absurd.

Bucks have different shape then doe how can people mistake a buck that lost his antlers to a doe?? Sounds to me you better get some glasses or maybe take your time and look at the deer before you shoot you got excited and the first deer that walked in or ran away from you you shot with out hesitation. MEAT is what you saw and it’s still illegal to shoot a buck without antlers atleast here in Michigan unless you have a unisex lisence. lol must be a newbie to hunting because bucks without antlers still look like bucks and doe look like doe.
