Honestly, the faster cello parts are often uninterpretable so I sometimes have to just wing it.

It's cause it's an octave lower and can add a baseline/lower harmony. And depending on the quality of the instrument it can provide a rich and warm sound.

Great comment. Best to get some agreement with the quartet players about the length of the fermatas. First sight reading is bound to be chaotic.

@@Checkmate1138 I am not able to read notes, but I can tell when a note changes, so I counted note values while following the part with the most simple melody (the cello, most of the times)

@@ailem2707 Ah, that's fascinating. Really! You honestly seem to be almost at the ability to read sheet music. I think all you would need to do is just learn the note names on the staff, and you would be set. You already understand pulse and beat, and it seems like you understand note values too, kind of? But anyway, it shows you that anyone can read music, one just needs to learn it like any kind of new language or writing system.

As a singer is took me a whole ten minutes to realise that instrumentalists only get their own parts so they probably didn't actually have the score that was on the screen. Suddenly everything makes a lot more sense

Not necessarily all the time. Actually sheets similar to the one on the screen can be found and used.

@@a7xmaNga They CAN play off the scores, but then they'd have a ton more page turns, and it's a lot harder to read. Typically, everyone just has their own part. This is evidenced when Eddy messes up when the violist doesn't come in. He says, "Someone is supposed to come in there." And then she says, "Me, but I don't come in until [measure] 9." This shows that neither knew exactly what the other was supposed to be playing.

@@magdolyn Yeah, you'll usually see the piano have the scores if they're a part of the arrangement, since there's usually a page turner for the piano. Also, the piano has the ability to overpower the instruments, so having the master score can help the pianist cue and regroup the ensemble.

That first mistake with Hyung was so relatable!!! As a cellist you're always responsible for the pulse and when it looks like you have an easy part (as it often does) your brain can just switch off whether you know the piece or not

A lamentable guide on how to take down a string quartet with sightreading: - Brett: “wtf there’s too many notes what is this?” - Eddy: “wAiT wUt? tHeRe’S a kEy sIgNaTuRe?!?” - Angie: a bar late a bar early a bar late. “So… who messed up?” - Hyung: “chords? This shows how it doesn't take very much at all for a whole piece to fall apart, particularly for just quartets. One wrong note, 1/8th too early/late, etc. This is why rehearsal is important. But after they mess up and it sounds like baroque polyphony or something, then they re-do and everything sounds way different and smooth.

It's fun stuff! I like it more than being in an orchestral setting. Sure you're responsible for every note in your part but it's also more...flexible? And your section is always together!

Ahhh this makes me miss ensemble playing and orchestra in general so much :(( There's really nothing like the feeling of making music with other people and I'm so glad twoset is keeping it alive for those of us that can't do it anymore

It would be really helpful if Twoset would start leaving the names of the pieces they play on the description for easy access (perhaps with recommended recordings)

That would be very helpful! I started listening to classical music while working from home because of Twoset! By the way, a very kind Ling Ling level Twosetter commented the names of the pieces with the timestamps. The name is “Panda ad nap”, but I don’t know if that’s possible to search for the comment…

As a singer, I'm so used to seeing all the voices. It took me a few clicks to realize that they are only seeing their own part. I guess it's nice to not have to turn pages, but it sure would be easier to find your place if you're off if you can see all the other parts.

Allegro ✨✨✨ Have searched the Bruch one on KZfaq, but I still found that the vibe and the sound quality of this version is the best 😜 Janacek sounds funny, pity it stopped so early. Wish they could play a longer version somedays later on.

Relative pitch is more important than perfect pitch for telling if someone's messed up (or playing out of tune)
