Instead of thinking about whether I might be able to use the item in the future, I try to think do I want to store and take care of this item I'm not using?

Candace, you are so creative with your ideas and you break things down so nicely. I am always motivated after watching your videos. My husband and I recently downsized and although I gave away a ton of stuff and left furniture and things that the new homeowner for my bigger house was interested in I am still left with a garage full of boxes. I am 65 and I’ve got to tell you your energy for decluttering begins to run low the older you get. I am determined though to continue ridding myself of the unnecessary! My husband has no interest in decluttering so it’s up to me, good lord!! Keep your videos coming Candace!!! ❤

Hi Candace, love your channel name. I have been married for almost 38 years. Yep same here hubby has no interest in decluttering but I do help him out sometimes and go through his clothes of what I think he might want to get rid of then he goes through the pile and say yes or no etc. i just found Candace's channel.

Yes 5 minutes works! I practice the PDS system, Perpetual Decluttering System. I have a basket in bedroom and one in main part of the house and as I am cleaning if I see something I no longer want or need i put it in the basket. I usually fill up one box a month this way. I also do dedicated decluttering projects too throughout the month.

I cleaned out my husband's sock drawer in 5 minutes, removing trash, rolling socks and folding hankies. What an improvement! I also had a pot of soup to watch, so I set a timer for 5 minutes to stir the soup. Meanwhile I pulled out all my spices, decluttered and sorted them, and now I can find any spice and the soup didn't burn! Yes, it was a lot of rounds of 5 minutes, but it got done.

Where I can find your master lists , I have always have a list for different things like things to pack when traveling, groceries, kids season clothes but I'm trying to make one for de cluttering and I would love to get inspiration from yours. Thanks again for all that you do it does make a difference and it does change people's lives ❤

I resently got some really nice second hand clothes so I went through my closet and gave away some clothes to our cities homeless shelter. So people can have some clothes. They appreciated the fact that they are clean clothes to.

Lol. I’m trying to be patient with this blackberry winter we are having. Waiting around to change over for the warm season. 😅😅 Don’t love this time of year Bcuz it’s like you have to keep a lot of stuff on hand Bcuz it’s hot then it’s cold then it’s warm. Then it rains. Then it’s warm during the day and cold at night. Like a rollercoaster. And with that comes extra laundry lol. I don’t need all that on top of hot flashes. Ugh. 🙄 But it’s def easier now than it used to be since I’ve decluttered so much of my wardrobe. Love using a timer. It’s very helpful and motivating.

We just came out of a LONG winter here in Utah...I seriously thought it would NEVER end...but Spring came last week and gave us all new life!! Hoping the sunshine comes your ways soon!! And YES on the timer!! It's amazing how fast you clean when you're racing the clock!

@@FancyThatwithCandice Lol. I guess the groundhog never lies. 😂😂 Yeah. I think last night was the last cold one. I’m in GA so idk. Seems cold to me for what’s typical down here. Already May and it’s like 45 degrees at night. Insane. Now it’s gonna be some rain with slightly higher temps and then looks like we finally get to move on. Lol. So true. The timer also helped me see how quick a task really was so then I was more motivated to knock it out (and not procrastinate) since I knew it only took 5 minutes or less. 😅😅

I just started decluttering this year. Have not made a whole lot of progress but have made several trips to Value Village with 5-6 bag/boxes at a time. This last week my husband came home with 20+ photo albums from is father who is downsizing. Honestly, I was furious! All the work I had done was blown up :( I got 4 photo boxes from Micheals and emptied all the albums, it took 6 hrs! How would you suggest dealing with other family members bring in clutter to your home?
@married40years53
@married40years53 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would lovingly put all those albums in a couple of containers, put your husbands name, “John’s” Family Photos on a neat label and stick them in a corner of the attic, basement or garage. Then, lovingly let hubby know where they are when he wants to deal with them and forget about it. I am married 43 years and I now know when enough is enough. Your husband probably has no real understanding of your need to declutter and make these positive changes. You are making good progress and you do not need these unexpected setbacks like this. Good luck!! 😊 (Also, I do not use “lovingly” in a flip manner. I believe everything must be done with love and respect for the other, especially our spouses!) ❤
@goodenoughgirl8102
@goodenoughgirl8102 Жыл бұрын
Oh Lawd. That would also infuriate me. I’d make him keep them on his “turf” and I’d refuse to have anything to do with them. But that’s just me. I can be a b*tch. 🤣🤣 I guess my rule of thumb is that I can’t control what others do, but I have a right to control what I keep in my turf and I can also refuse to “tend to” some crap someone else wants to keep. I’m single so idk the “marriage rules” but it might be helpful to just have a few defined zones that are exclusively yours and some that are exclusively his. I know most would be shared space, but I’m just of the opinion that just Bcuz someone marries, they don’t have to mesh EVERYTHING together and you never stop being your individual self. Some things can still remain “separate” imo. I’ve found this to be true with roommates also. It helps keep the peace a lot better.

Hi I just redired & I am finding out how annoying my house is. (My fault) You asked for ideas for the closet shelf. I have 12 boxes that I bought together. They are stacked 3 high & 4 across. There's an attached label holder so I have broken down the items that all belong together. I do not hv any closet in the master bathroom & a pedestal sink! Now when I need a new razor, or aspirin etc I just read the label & know which box to take down & I can keep track of the items I need to buy to replace the items. I keep a small folding stool in the closet from Dollar General that I keep in there so I don't hv to go get 1 every time. Great use of space & sanity. This is my 1st time watching you. Great Job!

You have great ideas! Thank you. The only place that you seem stuck is the closet shelf! That's amazing! I am SO visual and if it's out of sight, out of mind for me but I didn't realize that till 10 years ago. I have no ideas for THAT shelf in your closet, except I think what would help me, is if I could SEE through the containers or if they were labeled? I don't know your decluttering style though.

I like this idea but for me, double the time seems more right, or a time in the middle so 8 minutes or 10 minutes, still a short amount of time yet I don't have to feel too rushed. To put this in perspective, my job is in the service industry so when I'm at work I have to think fast and move quickly most of the time so for me I don't want to move as fast when I'm working at home yet still somewhat fast... I hope this makes sense.
