We all make mistakes when we become new pet owners and these are the 5 biggest mistakes I made when I first got a chinchilla.

I do give my chinchilla raisins. In fact, it's how I trained her to go back home when playtime is over. As soon as she hears the raisin cupboard open, she runs right back to her cage and up to the second level (which she has designated as the raisin receiving area for some reason). She's very friendly but only wants to be handled on her own terms, and catching her any other way was a nightmare.

Ha I tried this, and it worked for a very short period of time. Then the sound of the raisins made her run as far far away as possible to the cage so she didn't have to be back home🤣😭🤕😣

I wish mine got along. I had two pairs that didn't work out. One pair were half brothers. Ah, well. Great info.

Yeah sometimes they just don't tolerate cage mates, which is a shame. It's really down to the individual personalities of the chinchillas. I just wish I had got Basil's brother at the time I got Basil as they were already living together in the pet shop as they were from the same litter.

Lol, I asked a question about singles in my last post on a different video of yours and you answered it here lol. That makes me sad you can’t have just one. It’s not that two is a problem I just hate the idea of having to have two cages in my bedroom. I plan to get them each a DCN and a ChinSpin wheel and DIY all the wood ledges. I hope I can keep them in just one cage but I’m scared they’ll start fighting so I’ll probably just get two cages

I do give my chinchilla dried raisons but for very special occasions like ex her birthday or Christmas... the reason I give her raisons it’s bc it’s her favorite treat in the whole world she goes nuts over them

Very occasionally isn't going to cause too much issues. Some breeders in the UK make out your chinchilla will drop dead if you give them one raisen every six months, which is not true. I only really give my chinchillas a raisens if they are recovering from operation and they need energy or after a chinchilla hss given birth. Rest of the time I stick to more healthier options

Just a lil update Sapphire completely refused the bottle so we are giving Ruby a supplement that is said to help boost her milk. If you have any more ideas please i dont want to lose Sapphire.

I only got one chin when I bought her (about a year ago) her name is Esther and for 4 weeks ago I got one more (eevee), because I wanted a friend for her and eevee is 2 years and she have always had a friend but she died, so I got her because I thought they would be good friends. But my first chin Esther is biting eevee and peeing on her, so now they are in two different cages beside each other. So after they have been separated for about 2 weeks I tried putting eevee in Esther cage again, but she just ran over and bit eevee so now they are separated again, and I really don’t know what to do. I don’t know if there just are som chins that just don’t want company or what. Can you plz help me, cuz I got eevee because she was lonely and I thought Esther wold love to have a friend. I love them both so much and only want the best for them both ❤️ And i have thought about making babies on eevee so and then keep one of them so she have a friend, because she is sad being alone. I’m so sorry for the long comment I just don’t know what else to do and you seem really sweet and know a lot about chinchillas

Some chinchillas don't like cage mates full stop, it can also take a while to bond two together, a little bit more time might be needed especially if your chinchilla has always been on their own. You can try putting them in a neutral space together, if you are putting Eevee in Esther cage that may cause Esther to become territorial, so you could try reversing it so Esther goes in Eevee's cage, this may help with the dominance issues, if that makes sense. Even if they don't ever like sharing the same cage they can still see, smell and communicate with each other by squeaking, this in itself can stop them feeling lonely . A bit like us with social distancing this passed year.
