Wedge is by far one of my all time favorite Star Wars characters. From the X-Wing Books and comics to his role in the Vong War. I would rank him the best non-Force user pilot and better than most Jedi or Sith too.

So really, he didn't cause it, he did the equivalent of finding a small forest fire and throwing gasoline on it... So basically, following the Vong and Killik wars, the GA was restructuring it's military and placing heavier taxes on planets that were not slagged by the scarheads. It was also to help rebuild worlds that were slagged, or settle new worlds for the refugee populations. Corellia hadn't liked being a member of the New Republic before, and didn't like being a member of the GA now. The heavy taxes were preventing Corellia from rebuilding its own fleet and economy. Furthermore the GA was limiting regional fleets in order to keep the military more centralized and standardized to avoid the infighting that plagued the New Republic. These constraints led first Corellia to try to resist. When the GA responded with force, other planets thought this was the rise of a new Empire and started resisting as well. Terrorists on Coruscant started carrying out acts of violence and Jacen, who had fallen under Lumiya's influence volunteered to form a counter terrorism police force. Jacen had had his moral center shattered by Vegere during her torture training and this created an opening for Lumiya to corrupt Jacen by claiming she was training him to be a Sith all along. That a true Sith could wield the power of the Dark Side as a force of law and order to enforce peace. As Jacen willingly delves more and more into the Dark Side, his actions to end the growing war get increasingly violent and he makes the same mistakes the old Empire made. Every time he cracked down harder on resistance, that only pushed more allies into the enemy camp. Ultimately even his lover Tenel Ka, the Jedi order, and even much of the GA itself. The final straw was when he even pushed his co-chief of State, Naithal, over to the opposition. It became everyone VS Caedus's GA. Everyone being the Jedi Coalition, led by the Jedi, the GA government in exile under Naithal and the Confederation led by Corellia. The Imperial Remnant reluctantly siding with Caedus/Jacen after he had Pellaeon killed. When the Jedi finally kill Caedus, even the Remnant switches sides too, bringing what few loyalists Caedus had left to the negotiation table for peace.
