Yeah, I would definitely use noise removal since condensers pick up everything. Maybe a little equalization as well, though it's not as necessary as when I use my main lapel mic. If you didn't already know, Five Below also has a $10 USB mic kit that comes with accessories like a shock mount, pop filter, and tripod. They even have an adjustable desktop mic stand (though it's being sold as a phone stand). They're really upping their game on the audio gear front.

Correct. You'll need a combo audio adapter, but fortunately they're pretty cheap. Just make sure you get the one that splits the combo port into a mic port and a headphone port and not just a headphone splitter cable that gives you two headphone ports. They look very similar, and some sellers call both of those "Y" cables.

The mic is plug-in powered (aka "bias powered"), so it needs 1.5-5v of power supplied by the jack you have it plugged into. Most interfaces don't have powered jacks (phantom power is something entirely different), so this won't usually work with them. Each sound card is different for volume, but for sound quality Is suggested say least 48kHz 16bit. After that, just try to make it so that you don't have to be right on top of the mic for it to pick you up while also not being sensitive enough to clip or hurt the ears of the others in voice chat.

I use Audacity for all of my raw audio tweaking. It's free and moderately powerful, so it's great for people with little to no experience with audio editing. If you need more power you could try Reaper. It's technically not free, but last time I checked they had a very generous demo. It's basically the WinRAR of audio editing, since it gives you the full version and then asks you to register every time you launch it after the demo.

depending on what device you use it on you need a splitter for your headphones and microphone, but if you are on PC you can find a mic jack on the front of your case and you can use that to plug your mic into (or you can plug it into the back of your motherboard) , and if you have a laptop you will most likely need a splitter

The sound card it's plugged into definitely affects the final audio. I have a few spare computers laying around (mostly from thrift stores and the trash), and a couple sounded just like what you described. You might want to look into an external sound card if you're planning on plugging analog mics in. Nothing expensive or fancy, just a $5-10 model should help out.

@@ClyFaker That's interesting to know! I plugged this mic into my modern laptop and it sounds quite noisy from the background there. But on my desktop PC, the Windows Sound settings has an option for Noise Cancellation and switching it on really helps get rid of background noise. The option comes from my Realtek sound chip built into the desktop. My laptop also has Realtek audio but it doesn't have that noise cancellation option. On my laptop, while the direct recording sounds bad inside Audacity, in Discord there is no background noise and my voice sounds good. Not as good as in this video, but just fine for voice chat. I wonder if Discord has some special technology it's using. Also I wonder if setting the mic to line in will cause it to be quiet. I noticed for me, this mic is very quiet unless mic boost is up so I wonder if somebody has to turn up their mic boost but doesn't know. By default my mic boost is all the way up on my laptop but all the way off on my desktop.

If your laptop only has only one 3.5mm jack (instead of one for headphones and another for a mic) then you're right. If you do have two ports but the computer isn't detecting the mic you might have issue with either the mic or your sound card.

Yes. I think I read that the XBOX One uses a headset connector that has the mic and headphones plug into the same port. If so, you'll need an adapter for a mic, but headphones will work fine without one.

They're around $5-10 depending on where you look, though Wish/AliExpress has them for a bit less. The Bugha gaming headset from Five Below comes with one, but not the U-Youse headset or earbuds. Those come with the opposite version.

The adapters included in the $5 headset and gaming earbuds are the opposite of what they need. The Bugha gaming headset comes with the correct adapter though.

Anywhere that sells headphones should have them. Just make sure not to buy a headphone splitter instead since they look similar. Also, the Bugha headset at Five Below comes with one. Sadly the cheaper headsets come with the opposite style adapter that won't work the way you need it to.
