First bought this tea being totally unaware of Gyokuro and Sencha. Just was drinking standard Lipton decaf green tea from grocery stores and saw that Gyokuro was the most expensive green tea at my local specialty tea shop where I was buying my herbal teas so I figured I’d give it a try. Gyokuro was not what I was looking for taste wise, but as a massive ramen fan I immediately loved the Umami tastes, as surprising as it was. Like a great broth but without the thickness. And equally as good as the taste are the effects. The high caffeine and Theanine gives an incredibly calming effect within an hour, and as someone who’s pretty sensitive to caffeine, the Theanine really cancels out the jitteriness and anxiety I usually get from tea/coffee. Always have a cup in the morning to start off the day for the flavor and a great calm-alert ratio lol.

Amazing Video with a lot of knowledge and simultanious great video material about the things you explain. I just brewed my first gyokkuro because I got a little bit to test from a tee store. So now I could enjoy the tee a lot more, with al that knowledge.

Well, I got from you the tea sampler with 30 teas a week ago, I tried 6 teas until now of which 2 gyokuro, I have to say, I could not have imagined tea could taste like that, I need to get used to the flavor, it's ... unusual , especially the gyokuro kukicha, the other one I tried was the ChaMusume. Overall, I'm happy I stumbled upon your website while searching for teas, untill now it has been an experience for sure. And last but not least, the additional info you give both on youtube and on your website, particularly about who and where the tea is cultivate adds a lot for me, so thanks :D

Thank you so much! Yes it is a very different flavor than most are used to but overtime as you get more used to the different types of Japanese green teas, you will really start to appreciate the steamed vegetable taste profiles

Do you pre-wash the leaves before the first brew? Or toss the first brew? I heard people add soy sauce and eat the leftover leaves with rice. Any risk of pesticides or contamination? Trying to get the most benefit from trying it out but don’t want to over caffeinate myself lol

Hey Herbert, thank you for your question. This wash or rinse is usually a practice used for Chinese teas but not for Japanese teas. You can eat the leaves after you brew them and at that point most of the caffeine will already be extracted because it's on the outside of the leaf. If you are concerned about pesticides, we make sure that all the teas we sell are pesticide free! nioteas.com/
