The corruption of Agent Smith was planned by the Architect and the Oracle. He was used as leverage against the Machine source to force a hard reset with Neo's patch code that was updated a couple of times with the Oracle's snacks. This seemed to be a civil dispute between the Machine source, which controls all the machines, versus the Matrix software designers Architect and Oracle. At the end of Revolutions, the Source was infuriated that Neo was bargaining. The Source said we don't need you, but also understood that if Neo died, the entire Matrix would be destroyed. Peace was the only agreement, which was orchestrated by the software designers.

You could say it was Neo's active disobedience and rebellion at certain moments that pushed Smith to hunt him further than normal. The more Neo acted like the One the more Smith was driven to kill him.

the other Smiths are actually afraid of the the Smith that arose from the Oracle. it's strange that this Smith is the one Neo fights in Revolutions....so in a way Neo saves the Oracle too. maybe the Smith program is struggling to compile the code from the Oracle - but right at the end of things the Oracle gives Smith a vision of the moment he defeats Neo. having the code for Smith, the Oracle & Neo all together in that final Smith means all three of them contribute to the Matrix reset....fascinating stuff.

Smith is unquestionably an anomaly. His evolution was unexpected and his existence exceeded the scope of the system that he existed in. Neo on the other hand is not an anomaly, he is a constant. His existence was predetermined, reoccurring and measures where put in place to manage his existence within the system.

Completely disagree. Smith is obviously an antagonist but not necessarily a villain as he is only trying to escape the same prison that the redpills have escaped. Cypher is a traitor is reality and his fellow man, a villain for selfish ends
@blaze556922
@blaze556922 2 жыл бұрын
@@exxihan3561 I don't think he understood what being "free" meant. He awoke to being a slave without choice when what he sought from within the matrix, was choice. Life was horrible in Zion and on the Nebacanezzar. He wasn't changing the war or going to be the one. He couldn't even have Trinity. So yes, he was selfish. His humanity wasn't given to him, it was stripped from him and we don't know what kind of life he had in the matrix. Clearly he wasn't the richest or most successful but it was probably a much happier existence. He came from a place where he knew what it "felt" like to have the sun on his skin, the wind in his face, and possibly knowing love. No one loved him in the "real world." I don't think it's far fetched at all to have sympathy for him. If he were played by a more attractive, charismatic actor, you might feel differently. He did betray the human race but it was other humans that built AI, started the war, blotted out the sky, and lived underground. None of that was his choosing.

@@blaze556922 I think Joe Pantoliano is a great actor, and actually quite a charismatic guy. My perspective is more that of it doesn't matter how uncomfortable the truth is, compared to delusion it is the only meaningful reality, part of being an adult is facing ugly truths. Two points: 1) The only way Smith is not a villain is if he was indeed manipulated and used after he and Neo combined. Or 2)He knew something the audience doesn't about the true purpose of the Matrix. Maybe he knew it was indeed just a "zoo" or prison for all connected. In other words Smith knew that everyone and everything connected to the Matrix was an eternal slave. Other than that, he seems to be pure hate and discontent. And arrogant AF. Lol 😉

I’ve long ago seen videos claiming that Smith was the actual One. As Morpheus told Neo in the first film, he was able to change things as he saw fit, he freed the first of them, we know that somehow Cypher was freed without any help from another red pill, so maybe Smith did it? And there were many other pieces that did add up. But I never bought into that. Now he did have some, if not all, or even more powers as Neo did, and was able to change the Matrix as he saw fit. Just like the end scene fight where it’s raining incessantly and he even says, “You like what I’ve done with the place?” Admitting he could and did change the Matrix. He was able to access the backdoors, and again had many more abilities that we may have not clearly noticed. Yet beyond all of that I still don’t think he was the One, yet it was established that there wasn’t ever a “One”, so who was the closest to being it?
@mAv64uk
@mAv64uk 2 жыл бұрын
Didn't Morpheus free Cypher from the Matrix? He implies it in the betrayal scene when he jumps on Morpheus and says "If you'd told us the truth, we would've told you to shove that red pill right up your ass!" The power of the One is the ability to see and rewrite the matrix code as they see fit. The Ones strength, speed and ability to fly come from them changing the matrix code. As for the storm that Smith had made. He had previously assimilated Sati who seems to be able to manipulate the weather. As she's the one who makes the colourful sunrise in honor of Neo's sacrifice. Smith is Neo's opposite/negative. The system attempting to balance itself against the existence of the One.

He’s basically a nerfed version of the biblical Satan. A conscious being that should enforce “god’s law” but after a sudden change of heart starts to rebel against the creators order and tries to gain control over creation for selfish reasons. As with the angel Lucifer one could argue Smith is not “evil” per se, however his ambitions and reasons are the foundation of doing evil. And evil is who evil does. Even though he himself and his deeds play a necessary part in the creator’s plan there’s still no greater evil than he.

smith in the interrogation of morpheus was doing the olde good cop/bad cop routine....hence the misunderstood malice the agents usually did not express. If he indeed was a victim and be shown mercy he would have jettisoned Sati to the Merovingian versus asssimulating her and seraph. If he would have the idea of fighting neo would have been discarded. Instead of fighting Neo he would ve bargained at machine city and been the big bad with the arcade version of utilizing the code or landscape of the matrix as his avatar. I could be wrong I mean if the story had been a race by both through the matrix to a certain end it would have been more equalized. Every 'hero' who destroys first has lost the point of the conquest

Smith has been imprisoned longer than any human being has ever been alive. He has firsthand witnessed every mistake made or evil act ever committed by humans and he's had to witness them repeated over and over again. Even in a supposed "perfect" world humans just can't seem to stay satisfied whether the world be real or simulated. He sees Neo's persistence as a direct threat to existence itself but to his above all others. All Smith wants to be is free, but so long as humans are required for energy he never would be.

Clearly none of the programs are actually villains. If they are entities designed by someone else with their own thoughts but limited free will that’s doesn’t make them villains, it makes them slaves. Hence why the Merovingian hides them from deletion. That’s a curious thing I never understood why nobody ever saw. The Merovingian was villainous in some of his actions, but aren’t the humans in Zion? He’s building a group of programs who think for themselves and gives them an opportunity to live, avoiding deletion, without control from the programmers that created them. What really is different from Zion in my opinion the Merovingian isn’t much different than Morpheus or the inhabitants of Zion

I’ve watched the matrix films many times, I mean many. Various times watching it I concluded the anomaly was smith, and neo was a catalyst. It makes more sense the architect would keep the anomaly closer to him. With all that power and ability to literally take over the entire matrix and end it, that power would need to be controlled. Not out freely wandering the open world to be recovered by humans, that the computers already have location on. Wouldn’t it be something if Neo was the actual program, and smith was always the one.

Smith is right in the final fight scene. It was pointless to keep fighting. It was like Neo was just wasting everyone's time. The mainframe ai had him connected and ready, the sentinels were standing down, everyone just sat around waiting for Neo to have some big fight but he could've just come in, had Smith do the thingy, then th mainframe ai could zap him. Smith was right, it was pointless to fight, and Neo was right, he did it because he chose to. But what he chose to do was simply waste everyone's time for ten minutes so he could get his ass beat by Smith and fly around with lightning in the background.

Sometimes I think if at the end of the second trilogy that is coming we see Smith as the true One. 🤔☺

Johnny 5's code infected him. It's the only real explaination. The Matrix is a sequel to Short Circuit.

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them to present himself before the Lord. And the Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.” Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” ...

Smith both a victim and a villain, and by the end he was just completely insane with no rhyme or reason.

Hey Matrix Explained I'd like you to tackle a question I've had for a while after seeing the Matrix Trilogy, Why couldn't Agent Smith assimilate Neo in Matrix Reloaded when he could later on in Revolutions? The reloaded part is the part that I'm more curious about I couldn't find a discussion of this anywhere

Neo was tired after the last fight and he let Smith assimilate him. Smiths fighting ability had grown since he assimilated Serif, the Oracle, and the upgraded agents. In Reloaded he was not nearly strong enough to make Neo tired.

The fight is a stalemate. The Matrix system is designed to balance itself. Smith is the result of the matrix system attempting to balance the existence of the One. Neo realises that Smiths purpose to exist is to beat him. Neo sacrifices himself because he knows that once the One is dead then Smiths purpose is complete. Without the One, Smith now becomes the imbalance and the matrix system is able to delete him and bring everything back into balance.
