After constant neck pain, arm pains, hand pains, muscle twitching, and other.. I had my EMG today. I was convinced that I had it. I was out of my mind and even warned my family that I wouldn't go on that way. I just lost all hope in the idea that I probably had it. My results were clear. The doctor told me there were no signs of anything wrong. Of course it relieves some of the stress and anxiety, but it's making me take a deeper look into my life. Do yourself a favor as I am. Stay away from googling every symptom and feeling you have. I have literally lost nights of sleep and days of work just thinking of the possibility. If I were to just follow through with my appointments without it, I would have saved myself a great deal of stress. Medical anxiety is crippling and 9.9/10 times it's just that. See your doctor and go on with what you need to do to figure it out. Do your best to stay calm. I know it's not easy and it's definitely worth getting checked out for the peace of mind. My PT told me I may have a condition that I later looked up (and had nothing to do with ALS) but it also showed up on the search. I looked into and was just 100% convinced. Your brain is not always your friend. Just stay the course, friends.

I had minor health anxiety for most of my life, a health scare caused it to flare, then it subsided, then Covid hit and I handled the first part pretty well. Then my mom had a heart attack in August and it had been the worst ever. Late last year I ended up going down the ALS rabbit hole, and I am still occasionally convinced I have it. I go back and forth between ALS, Heart attack, cancer, and some other problem such as appendicitis. Google doesn't help. I'm not even sexually active and i still convinced myself once that i had HIV.

I’m thankful for finding your videos, I’ve been losing my mind sense Christmas. I’m 23 and have never had anxiety before, but out of no where I thought I was having a heart attack and feeling weird chest sensations and my left arm went numb. Just this past week I’ve started having muscle twitching and found the ALS rabbit hole. These videos and this community is really making me feel better. I just started my own business, moved in with my fiancé, and I have been spending money like mad(for business). After breaking it all down I can better see the obvious case that I have developed anxiety, and not a life threatening disease. Take care, God bless.

Bro! Same thing happened with me. I'm also only 23yrs old. It started with a random panic attack (which I now know lol, thought it was a heart attack)...then stomach problems...with weight loss... Then the muscle twitching and weak feelings. Difference is, my Dad passed away of ALS when he was 47 (I was only 17). Though ALS was never been in our family before! My body has somehow started almost imitating my worst fears. It's a terrible thing. God bless you man! I hope you're feeling better lately.

To add to one of your last reasons: most of us on here are so in-tune with our body symptoms we would absolutely know if something was really off. In fact, my neurologist who gave me my EMG and explained BFS is a top neuromuscular specialist in the area who treats patients with ALS everyday, he said most of his ALS patients are shocked at the diagnosis as they never even though of that. And here we are obsessing and anxious over BFS. He said BFS is very common and he sees at least 3 patients a month with it. And even with all the reassurance from this top doc I still get anxious! The problem deep inside I know is in my head, but hard to listen to that part of the brain

Wow you got an EMG? I was discouraged by the neurologist to take one (I saw her because I was weak and felt sand in my hands) because she said its really painful and and I hadnt had concerning symptoms yet (I like wasnt mumbling words or limping yet, among other things).

@@eduardochernia What is she talking about ? There is NOTHING painful about EMG's. I think she just didn't want to be bothered. I've had three in my life by diff neurologists and an EMG is about as uncomfortable as acupuncture - which is hardly painful at all. There is a quick prick followed by a little zing like a mosquito bite from time to time - but no big deal at all.

@Homemaking Heaven Hey, thank you so much for your response. So sorry you are going through this cruel health anxiety, its so draining. There are different variants of ALS or MND as we know it in the UK and the one that my mum passes with was the FAS or flail arm syndrome variant. Others are bulbar and limb onset. I have seen a neurologist who said that there was no reason to suspect that my mother's variant was hereditary as only a minority of cases are but it doesn't stop the health anxiety. Xx

I have had all of the symptoms ( for more than 6 weeks as of today) and I could just not believe anxiety was able to do this to my body. Some nights my arms would go completely numb and I would freak out. The MRI finally confirmed my brain is totally fine, even though I was convinced I had something really serious. I am thankful that people make these videos. My advice for you is to go and see a doctor as soon as possible, and while you are waiting for the results, remember that you are not alone and that chances are very high you are not dealing with a brain tumor or multiple sclerosis.

Cherelle, this past month i've been going thru a terrible als scare, lost tons of weight and have barely been able to function and live/enjoy my life. I've recently came across your channel and you have def eased some of my anxiety and worries a bit. Alot of your past vids and worries you had are almost exactly some of the things i've gone thru in the past as well. Although i'm still having these twitches (which came out of nowhere), I always try and remind myself that i'm not the only one out there that is going thru the same situation so thank you for that. I need to get past this cause it's honestly been the most challenging thing I have ever dealt with, as silly as that may sound to some ppl. I know there are ppl out there that have actually been diagnosed with this horrible disease and I know that most would prob read this and roll their eyes at me and I mean no disrespect to them and am so sorry for what they are going thru, just can't get past this worry.

Thank you. My anxiety is so bad. I have to stay busy every minute of every day to deal with it…but when I lay down at night, it all hits me. I’ve been this way for 36 yrs, I can remember having anxiety as a 5 yr old and it developed into hypochondria as an adult…it’s worse sense I had kids and the fear of “not being able to raise them” has been so strong in my mind…but they are 6 and 11 now and I’m still here. Just gotta keep on keeping on I guess. Some days are just harder than other. I hope it’s just BFS.

stress causes elevated cortisone, abnormally high cortisone due to anxiety depletes potassium and that wont necessarily show up in the serum blood test because it will happen inside of the cell, then whats gonna happen is your H ions will shift into the intracellular level to maintain electrical neutrality since potassium and hydrogen are both + charged, then you will lose hydrogen ions from your blood which is also acid then your blood ph levels alters and you go into metabolic alkalosis state, in this state your ionized calcium levels will quickly fall and actually thats why you are getting the twitches, you need to acidify the blood or eat much more potassium, long story short potassium will affect magnesium absorption as well, drink some apple cider vinegar and eat some potassium heavy diet prefferably 2500-3000 mg a day see if it helps, when you go to doctors they will tell its caffeine or stress, caffeine also will decrease ionized calcium big time, its really ionized calcium but you cant fix it without potassium since H ions will only shift for potassium, low ionized calcium is also called hypocalcemia and it happens without changing your total serum calcium levels, so your calcium test should be totally fine but you might be hypocalcemic due to low ionized calcium, i was literally watching medical lectures to learn about this stuff, i can also interpret chest xrays and ct scans haha i love how my anxiety makes me a more educated person for literally no reason

I Have a awful health anxiety and OCD (male 28) and I'm im the bulbar Als rabbit hole .. I read about it and after a week I have started to slurre many words, No one have heard it when they speak to me, but! I have it recorded when I do slurre, so I really are slurring my words. I also started stuttering. After the first slurre I got so hyperaware of my speech. I have never had any problems with my speech, my speech is my biggest gift in my life so when something is off with it, I know for sure something is really wrong. During this time, I also remember my tongue feeling fatigue. I do not slurre all the time it's coming and going. I’ve also developed in the last 2-3 days a scalloped tounge and burning sensation on my tounge (never had this before), fasiculations all over my body, mostly on my left buttcheek, it also feels like I have lost the coordination of my tounge and my tounge is always touching my teeth while I’m speaking, I never had braces and I have straight teeth. And today I have bit my tounge like 15 times meanwhile I'm speaking .. So to my question, is this the bulbar onset of ALS? Because how can it be possible for me to slurre my words for 17 days with just hyperawareness and health anxiety, it should not be possible right?

If you, like me, have been working a lot, been fairly isolated (single), perhaps privately indulging in some unhealthy habits, and on top of that you work out a lot and aren't sleeping enough, and then you suddenly have twitching, you have likely been really overdoing it, and building up A LOT of hidden bodily trauma in the form of exhaustion, perhaps without realizing it. Accumulated psycho-physiological trauma, and the anxiety it fosters and causes, is the source of BFS in my belief. Obviously some nutrient deficiencies are also possible causes. When we internalize a lot of trauma in our bodies it eventually has to come out, hence the twitching. Other people may experience a different manifestation. The next step is the inevitable dot connecting we do via Google, or even without that, for those who have health anxiety, we incorrectly attribute our symptoms to a bigger, badder wolf, and without proof. Are the twitches annoying? Hell yes. Can they sometimes not be easily ignored? Yes. However, if we take a moment to step back and rationally observe what is happening, it becomes obvious that our reaction to BFS is more powerful than it itself is. So either the anxiety it induces is worse than the twitching objectively is (and we all know BFS is harmless), or our reaction/response of living with it or learning to completely ignore is as well more powerful. In either case, this shows that our mind dictates our relationship to reality, in so far as how we respond to it. I am telling you to relax. You deserve to feel relaxed and you have the power to make it happen. This doesn't have to be exhausting. This is just how you (we) are, for now. Note: I've just started experiencing this condition and I am being proactive in fostering a dismissive attitude toward it, after 2 weeks of anxiety over it (which is uncharacteristic of me). Will I be reigning in my crazy lifestyle and getting some rest? You betcha. Be well.

You bring up alot of interesting points but what about stuff like Cramping, pins and needs, hot/cold sensations, vibrations in your hands and feet, etc. These are symptoms that I experience along with Benign fasciculations (twitching). Like something that you indicated having difficulty carrying a plate of food or something. I have experienced this myself but does that mean its ALS, no it could also be attributed to simple cramping due to other types of conditions like neuropathy or arthritis. I did actually get EMG's done, and they told me that I have what they characterizing as polyneuropathy at a very low stage with no nerve damage present. I don't know if the cramping and pins and needles are related to the same symptoms of Twitching, but I almost am 100% sure that the twitching it self is exasporated once I take more medication. I have already trialed my self and doubled up on my meds and my twitching is far more frequent lasted longer, and was more intense. The Medication is called Diamox. In any case it is troubling for me because I need the medication for treatment of my Ataxia but I also don’t want to succumb to more chronic issues later on.

I am under the care of a neurologist now who is trying to figure out what is going on. So far the only things she has mentioned is Myasthenia Gravis (ruled out with a blood test) and Multiple Sclerosis (just had MRI, after having to have surgery to remove my cochlear implant in the middle of cancer treatment), so I am safe to assume I don’t have ALS and I trust her. 😊

My twitching started with 2 weeks of numbness/tingling in my feet first. The numbness went away after 2 weeks, which is when I noticed constant twitching all over my body. Not sure if I was twitching in the initial 2 weeks, but I was certainly on edge and very jittery. Also having jerks in my feet/legs, mostly at night. All of my blood tests and MRI have come back normal, except the EMG showed mild sensory neuropathy in both legs and "although F waves are mildly prolonged; currently, there is no electrodiagnostic evidence of acute demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP)." All muscles examined were normal. The neurologist said no concerns with MS or ALS at this point, but I'm not sure what to do next. Hard to believe that it's BFS with the neuropathy in my legs. Healthy 33-year-old male and not sure what the mildly prolonged F waves means. Getting tested for Lyme next, but the testing process seems unreliable for that. Frustrating!
