I just got done watching another video about the 6 holes because I was curious why you sold mostly 5 holed flutes. Love how much I've learned from you over the years. If you get a canvas bag, there are sprays you can get that will make them fire retardant. I don't think any wooden flute is fire proof, little on one that is oiled and waxed haha.

Quick question for you. If you learned how to make flutes from Doc Tate, and to be honest with you I'm not sure if he was native or not, I don't believe so, if you're using his techniques, are your flutes Native American or Native American Style? If you're teaching his flute making technique, can you call it the "old way", are you teaching a Native American flute making technique? I do have Chickasaw friends but only a Chickasaw Friedman in my family.

@@BlueBearFlutes I didn’t learn from Doc. He just helped me along the way with encouragement. I admired him because he was the most notable flute maker I knew when I first started making flutes. He encouraged me to keep improving my skills. Doc was Comanche. I was on good terms with him and several others in the Native American arts community in Oklahoma back in the 80’s and 90’s. Yeah, I consider the way I was taught it the “old way”. In the perspective of it being done since metal hand tools were introduced and became readily available to American Indians. If I wanted to go real old school with it. I suppose stone tools would be the way to go.

@@BlueBearFlutes As far as my flutes are concerned. I think my flutes are Native American style made by a Native American. Are my flutes Native American? Well they come from trees that are native to America….. so I guess they are Native American flutes. 😂

@FriedPi-mc5yt I believe it makes a good topic for discussion. And of course if you've watched many of my videos, I do try to point out that natives didn't historically tune our flutes to scales, 432 or any other such baloney, adulto today, in order to keep up with demand, I do use countless pieces of equipment it is critical to me people know the difference between historic, relevant and most importantly honest. @@BlueBearFlutes Yes, I think it’s a good topic for discussion as well. I never wanted to make a living at it or do it part time for supplemental income. If someone is wanting to do that, machines are the way to go. There’s no way a person could meet demand doing it the way I do. It’s far too labor intensive and just not economically feasible. I don’t think people would be willing to pay me $700 - $800 for one of my flutes. But that’s what it would amount to if they paid me by the hour to make one by hand with no machines. The tools I use are pretty much no different than what would have been available before the “Removal”. I even made myself a few pump drills with different sizes of cutters for making holes. Cane takes awhile to cure under the right conditions. Willow and cedar take at least a year and then some before it’s ready to be used for flutes. So you have to plan ahead for what you think you might be doing two years from the day you cut your materials. That’s a tough call sometimes. Good for you for doing that balancing act and working without a net. I think it’s fantastic that there are people who are dedicated to putting a quality product in the hands of people who appreciate a good Native American flute. I wish more musicians would add one to their instrument collection since it’s so unique in the world of flutes. Of course I would like to see mainstream musicians play them in concerts and on their recordings. I don’t care who plays them. I just want them played. I don’t want them to disappear like they almost did. The more hands the flutes can get into, the better.

@charliechrist7537 I'll be honest with you, -the way is within-. I do make Four Hole flutes which are great for people who have at least four fingers on one hand or two fingers on each hand. In my life however I have taught so many people how to make flutes and in doing so, at one event I had a man who was a power lineman who had both of his arms blown off at the elbow. I realize this is a little graphic but to watch him make flutes in my class, help me teach others to make flutes by helping them use power tools and then to play it himself, I'm not really sure what a disability is anymore. He was one of the most inspiring people I have ever met!

Your first point, he says some people have no idea and it's their first time and have no knowledge and that is fine. Seems respectful of genuine inquiry. For point 4, I checked out the website to see what was there. The website has a page on shipping times, FAQ, and on checkout. For Question 5, if someone was new to internet and online shopping maybe? But I mean you don't do that for amazon, etsy, etc for online purchases from online only stores. Checking the website I did not see anywhere that stated this, but there is also no physical location and this was addressed in other videos. Regarding the Bill Gates comparison, he says "Now, I am not saying that I'm as big as them...".
