I strongly feel that if users really benefit from the product/ service, the hacks can be justified. For instance, there are people who don't realize that the product/service is essential for them that solves a certain problem for them and the users may not be paying the right amount of attention required to solve their problem (they might be complacent). However, if we use these hacks, the users might get forced to go for them but to finally realize that they have been in need of the product/service all along!

We tried an anchor plan that was more than every other one and it ended up being the most popular plan by a long shot. Great way to realize your pricing might be too low.
