I am a 44-year-old man, father of 4 boys, from three women, twice divorced. If I had had someone to share these views, and I had listened in my youth, things would have been very different. My dad had given me a copy of Epictectus' thoughts, but I didn't heed it back then. If you're a young man, really listen to this advice. He's adapting age-old ideas to the modern world, which men have done throughout history. This is a great channel and has great content, keep it up.

Beast, I feel stuck right now it's getting tiring having things stop and start all over again. I'm trying to get this matchmaker started so I can have something that I want to do myself. And I keep having this thought that I wish would go away. Because I'm in a walker, it feels like people sometimes are keeping me in a "safe" life and not letting me experience the things I need to experience. True. And even more challenging and rewarding is following the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing in this world can compare to the joy, the peace and fullfilment of the love of God, but nothing is more challenging than to pick up your cross and follow Him. The proverbs and ecclestiasic in the Bible are the next level stoicism. King Solomon, the richest and wisest king in the Bible, lived a long time before the stoics, but had much more wisdom in his writings. A lot of the proverbs are equal to the philosophy of the stoics.

Example is proverbs chapter 10:9 He that walks uprightly walks surely: But he that perverts his ways shall be known. Chapter 14:14 The simple believes every word, but the prudent looks well to his going. Chapter 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Chapter 27:5-6 Better an open rebuke than love that is concealed. The wounds of a friend are faithful, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Also there's a verse which i really like i just forgot which chapter it is. "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and no walls. Same on the meditations of marcus Aurelius "you have the power over your own mind not outside events, realize this and you'll find strength".

I read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius recently and came to similar realizations for much of what you said. Stoicism is a good path for so many people to discover and attempt, but it takes a great deal of discipline and the ability to zoom out in life and see what matters. Thanks for the video.

1) think yourself dead and you've lived your life, accept what's left and live it properly 2) do what you can do right now. there's no point to worry about what's beyond your control 3) we suffer more from imaginary, rather than reality. do something you can do, rather than being worried about those daily chores 4) ask: what can go wrong? Then: what's the backup plan? Hope for the best, plan for the worst 5) time is flying. we're not here forever, appreciate your time

Worth noting: Marcus didn't really help create stoicism. That was the Greeks centuries before him (Zeno, epictitus, among others). Marcus just popularized and refined it.
