it is so much true, Marie-Anne, that money cannot buy style and elegance, so as to live in paris. yes, style is very French, transmitted from mothers to daughters. Here is an example : once at church, a lady in need was thanking le Secours Catholique for helping in her priorities, and while she was at the microphone talking with gratitude, she was very confident and full of dignity, and elegance. She obviously was wearing thrift clothes, but the way she put them together, simply respecting rules that all French women have in their veins, she looked perfect the way she arranged what she had at hand the colors matched in a sort of beige unity, the scarf was there, of course, she respected her proportions and morphology and combined the fabric with cleverness. No extra "christmas tree" jewelry. Just simple and elegant. Then the way she behaved knowing she was timeless chic, made her a beautiful woman. She was full of gratitude that turned into beauty ! I attended a great lesson confirming that French style is not a money matter. God bless !

I could not agree more with what you say. Once we can identify our style personality and body shape we can start to build a wardrobe that suits us and we feel comfortable in. Dressing becomes easy as we have the building blocks to create stylish outfits. I’m regular complimented on how I dress, despite choosing to keep to a small clothing budget, buying few but more expensive items. I still have a special knitted dress and jacket that I bought for a wedding in 1983. I have worn it to several weddings, ordinations and other formal occasions. I last wore it for my nieces wedding two years ago. Another investment piece was a kilt my father bought me in about 1977, my daughter wore it over Christmas. Wise shopping is good for our purse and the environment.

And.. not following fads. I lost my style over the last several years attempting to follow fads that just aren’t me. My style is not what’s in style I’ve taken your advice and started journaling what I wear. In doing this I’m starting to find it again. For me it’s as important to know what’s not flattering as is what is flattering, and just because I like it on someone else doesn’t me it’s the best for me. Continue the practical videos they are extremely helpful.

Love your latest excellent advice. My favorite is that you do not need a lot of money to look stylish. When my 5 children were growing up,my clothing budget was almost non-existent. I used my grandmother's advice: change buttons, dye the piece of clothing, make sure it is neatly mended, add a scarf,a belt, etc. Wear hats! Fellow school mom's used to ask me where I bought my clothes, and how could I be so stylish! Nowadays,Ebay is my favorite fashion source, with quality designer clothing at pennies on the dollar. I have a bigger budget, but I don't like to waste money on the huge price markup at retail. I could not afford these high quality clothes otherwise. Merci, Marie-Anne for your very helpful and enjoyable videos. Bonne Annee!

I do not spend a lot of money just seek out reasonably priced items, in particular fit and flare dresses and i often get complemented on how I look. You very rarely see women wearing dresses or skirts any more. Always wear make up and do my hair. I think you nave to do this for yourself otherwise you feel rubbish! Dear Gloria, I thought of that quote, too, while I was listening to Ms. Lecoeur's video. I also like Einstein's quote: "Imagination is more important than knowledge." We can apply it to style as we use our creativity to inspire us to make wise style choices. I also like a quote by Thomas Alva Edison, after failing thousands of times at inventing the incandescent light bulb: "I will never, never give up!" Even though we may stumble and fail at some attempts at looking chic, we will keep trying! Natalia Arizona Natalia Arizona.

I love that you stress the fact that dressing well is a skill to be learnt, neither an innate ability, nor merely a matter of self-confidence. I think in particular of an American KZfaqr living in Paris who used to proclaim that there were no rules, that French women's so-called style was purely self-confidence. In other words, she had it backwards, the fact being that the self-confidence comes from knowing your stuff. Bravo for giving the lie to that nonsense. Je vous souhaite une bonne et heureuse année 2022, Marie-Anne.

You are so right about fashion does not have to be expensive. I'm embarrassed by some of the popular American icons that don't even look like real people - because of surgeries and over-the-top purple/green hair, orange claw like glue on nails, botox, etc. Don't understand why people think that's fashion just because it's costly

Dear Elisa, I know what you mean! I am 64 and more stylish and elegant than ever. I receive compliments every day that I set foot outside the house. No one else here in Sun City, Arizona is wearing a black, leather pencil skirt with 4" high heels, an ivory brocade light duster coat with Dior-type pearl/gold buttons, and an ivory silk blouse tucked in. I bought every single piece used on ThredUp and Ebay--and the outfit looks like a million bucks. Dare to be elegant among the land of faded t-shirts, rumpled sweatpants, and flip flops (shower shoes) on older women! Natalia Arizona

The biggest step is when walking into a store dismiss anything that is upfront - that is the latest “fashion” such as now, short boxy tops (90s style) and very high waisted jeans/pants which I remember vividly, since I was a youngish woman and once they’ve come up with a new fashion style you will look old-fashioned and unstylish. Using your own sense of style will separate you from the masses (i.e., for now the joggers, logo shoes) and make you unique.

Yes, let's go into 2022 with style and elegance. Thanks, dear Marie-Anne. PS When I was a child and later a teenager at school my classmates thought that I came from a wealthy family. She made many of our outfits back in the 1960s and early 1970s; clothing was all American-made back then, and it was so expensive. Love this video. Especially love that you say it doesn't take long to get ready. I don't have the luxury of taking time to get dressed so I buy clothes that don't require fussing with. Dear Marie-Anne, Happy New Year from sunny Arizona! I have loved watching your videos these past few months; I have learned much from you about internal elegance, grace, and refinement, as well as style. The myth that resonates the most with me is the one about spending a lot of time to dress in a classy outfit. I think it actually takes me less time to style my outfits in the morning than it used to with a trendy wardrobe: now, all of my clothing pieces complement each other, and I do not overdo it with accessories, jewelry. Less is more, indeed. Natalia Arizona

Happy New Year, Marie-Anne! As far as style, some people do have a better eye for it than others, but I believe anyone can learn it. It took me awhile but once I learned that MY style isn't what someone else says is the style of the day but rather what looks good on me, I was able to get rid of a lot of items that didn't flatter me and keep only what does. Turns out that the collared shirts and V-necklines and slim-fitted jeans and pants I loved all along were right for me. And my messy hair (of which my mom and mother-in-law vocally disapproved) suited me as well!

Bonjour! Happy New Year 🥳 I really loved your natural makeup in this video and I’m only 5ft and for long time thought I could not be elegant and stylish but that is a big lie. Thank you Marie-Anne

Hi Rhonda, I had two years of French in high school, and I wish that I had retained much more of this beautiful language so that I could understand Ms. Lecoeur's discussion. Never too late to learn French! Natalia Arizona

Oh wow , Marie-Anne your words about perfection really spoke to me. I have been feeling so overwhelmed and exactly as you described like my spirit and joi de vivre is crushed.

Thank you, Marie-Anne, for another wonderful video. I loved your subdued but lovely makeup application. Your choice of eyelid and lip colors was soft, and suited your ensemble to a "T!" Gorgeous! I love your usual signature red lip 💋 color, but as an American, I've been secretly hoping to see you try a pink shade when you next wear that color. Wishing you Bonne Année, 2022!

Marie-Anne, there is a book I have that you might find interesting because it agrees with you about style. It was written in 1938 by Helen Valentine and Alice Thompson and is called Better Than Beauty A Guide to Charm. I got it on clearance at Barnes and Noble about 15 years ago and have read it many times. It is also on Amazon for a few dollars. The cartoon-like illustrations are very entertaining and so is the writing style. It shows us that what is means to have good style and be charming remains constant as times goes by. Enjoy! :D Happy New Year as well.

Dear Marie-Anne, first of all: A happy and healthy new Year 2022 to you! Your big 5 are a style "mantra "! Yesterday I went to a Symphonie concert in Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf is a fashion town. The audience was not the poorest but I was astonished about style. Expensives outfits but not always stylish. So I agree:" Money can't buy style !" I am not from Düsseldorf, I am from the country side, small village😂 but watching your videos😀. Lucky me!

Marie-Anne, I loved this video!! Thank you thank you for speaking French, I adored it! Even if I don't understand everything right away, I love it! Actually, I have started to learn & re-remember French with the Duolingo app etc., inspired by the French style and you 💛. Also, I love your outfit and make up here, they are both so luminous, beautiful. And your advice is perfect. I'm getting more interested in French style outside of Paris. I've watched videos about parisian street style and sometimes it looks too serious to me... on other hand, I loved the creativity & colours in your fashion video with Ma Reine. Best wishes for your new home! I wish you a great New Year with lots of success and fun adventures. Riikka

Yes,, thank you. It's a relief to know that we can acquire style. And now, with KZfaq, and videos like yours, there is no reason not to be stylish! I don't like to spend a lot of money on things I can get at a discount, over the years I have shopped at thrift shops, and now I am shopping online too - buying clothes and bags from other individuals. The prices are fantastic, and I love the variety of options! I am such a good shopper now I have too many clothes! So I have to stop that. Your videos are so helpful, and your attitude is always so positive and upbeat. Just now I decided to watch a couple of your videos as I'm getting ready for work so as to get good energy going for the day!
