The MT82 has the best gear ratios though. 5th is 1:1 and 4 underdriven gears closely spaced to keep it in the power band. I wish I could swap one into my 03 Mach 1 easily

I agree , I have a tt boss 302, still working on adjusting the mgw shifter, but love the gear ratios, the shifter is the only issue I've had,

5th was definitely not 1:1 on my old boss... I hit 155 in 5th.

Dude brake dust is the trade off for brakes with the best stopping power. I'll take brake dust as a trade off for stopping in my Boss 302 that happens to be supercharged at 740 + HP

Performance pads dust. That is a fact of life. The “very good” pads you’re talking about probably can’t handle the temps that the stock pads can handle.

You know what makes me mad with my boss? The fact that people call it a Coyote 5.0 when it is a Roadrunner 5.0!!! Its not a Coyote

I had a terrible problem with the MT82 I solved it with the BlowFish bracket man perfect shifts everytime.

i highly suggest the ceramic pads I had gold wheels on my 350 and they stayed black from dust. the ceramic pads were one of the best things i did

The boss has a forged version of the coyote with different cams and stuff that they nicknamed roadrunner…… it’s still a coyote engine but Ford gave it a special name, people wanna act like it’s a completely different engine lol

My 2012 GT would default to Bluetooth when I bought it used. Don't ask how. But when I updated the firmware it never did it again. Also I noticed that when you blip the throttle before engaging 2nd gear it won't rake. I have the Blowfish race bracket and stock shifter. It also helps if when shifting through all gears 1-4 you simply push the shifter straight back and forward. If you "seek" 3rd at a diagonal you'll get locked out.

I live in New York and have those tires on my 2014 mustang and those are the only tires I will put on my mustang. The manual transmission is an issue but I haven’t dealt with anything you’re talking about. My issue is shifting from fourth to fifth when the fluid is cold and the transmission mount.

Bad shifting on the MT82 are caused by the clutch not releasing good enough. Videoes on the topic here on youtube and online forums.

02powertube I heard it was related to the bolts on the pressure plate. They had too much blue loktite

A shifter upgrade does not fix the issue, but I am no expert in this - please keep in mind. Look in one of the newer videos in this channel, there is a thread ongoing with information on the mt-82 repair and clutch upgrade (if he go for it) I believe that the clutch is causing the problem/wear in the gearbox. , Take your car to ford asap.

@@02powertube its the clutch....the clutch causes lockouts high rpm the shifter being remote causes sloppy feeling shifting the mgw race spec shifter that does away w the remote style shifter fixes this the barton should too...between those two mods shifting problems should be a thing of the past. Oh and look up the mt82 cocktail by ben calimer its a mix of trans fluids to put into it to help as well. Between those things shifting problems should be 100% gone the clutch is most important followed by shifter then fluid change.

For #4 i have a solution to this gripe! There is a button on the right side of your steering wheel at the top left of the cluster of buttons that when pressed you can say "Bluetooth audio" and it switches to that play method, have a 2013 GT/CS and it was one of the first things i dug through my owners manual/documentation books to figure out. Without that its a pain in the ass, 100% agree with you, my daily routine is to hit that button just after the car starts before i pull out. My only problem anymore is if my phone doesn't start playing automatically when i do this because then i have to dig my phone out of my pocket and open the app/hit play.

Hmmm in my 2013 boss 302 my car always synth to my blue tooth, and it’s not a coyote engine..

Beautiful car - I had the identical Boss ... yr, color etc. Only gave it up to trade on a new GT350. Tires were great on dry summer roads - dangerous on anything else. Guess I was lucky - Bluetooth connected 99% of the time at startup. My biggest gripe was the paint on the front bumper. By 8,000 miles it was looking bad - at 33,000 when I traded it - you couldn't possibly count the chips. Dealer admitted it was unusually bad - Ford called it normal wear. Not my first car - but certainly the first to have the paint jumping off the bumper. All said though I really enjoyed driving it. Don't share the same thoughts on the transmission. I ran the car hard and thought it worked well with the package. Given the production numbers the car has good potential as a future collectible ... better the the 350.

#5.. Buy higher quality pads #4.. Adjust your settings before you start driving...come on man... #3.. It's a sports car... get use to it. #2.. Buy better tires if the ones you have don't suit your environment. #1.. The ONLY plausible argument you made and even that's a stretch. Learn how to correctly operate it before you bash it. My advice to you, go buy a civic. And the only "corners" that were cut to save costs was you when you paid for your haircut..

@Flash your response to #1 makes you look dumb, flatout. The Gear should NEVER lock you out when shifting... EVER! There's rumors that the power (torque specifically, which higher torque with same RPM can produce higher HP, based on curves) is lowered from factory on the car due to the MT82, and considering it struggle with the 380 torque at that RPM range, I believe it. There's numerous replacement on the bracket for the shifter or reinforcements that patch the issue, which is all ford side of the problem, and then there's the Getrag issues on the tranny itself. Lawsuits are open for this. I will say though that the gear ratio's are perfect and if the transmission didn't have the quality issues it would be great

The clutch is the issue and not the transmission and especially with the high RPM shifts of the Boss.

And I wish I had a 69 boss 429! And the brand new mustang Shelby gt500!! Its killing every thing it races!!! But I am going to get a 12 boss 320 and super charge it and take it to our race track and race a Nissan gtr!! What type of insurance do you recommend if I am going to be racing it?

That transmission is the reason why I got an older Mustang and modded it. It's not as fast, but it's very reliable.

Hmmm my tires done good in the snow here for me not once did I get stuck in the snow we might not get as much as u do but never had a issue but on the the salt lol after the snow it’s a different story lol

I think you nailed it, except I have heard so many times that a clutch is the fix. That's my next step as I also have MGW, Blowfish bracket, fluid and Whiteline trans bushing. And also, Coyote/Roadrunner, whatever. It is a Coyote with significant factory upgrades. Don't be so mad, guys.

I hate that non mechanics who buy these cars don't realize its a coyote-but has different heads-cams and valvesprings,intake manifold and tune calibrations than a basic coyote--even the f150 coyote has different intake cams if I recall-I own a 14 gt with an auto because the manual trans these days isn't worth messing with-a supercharger alone can easily surpass the capabilities of a factory manual trans

Do you have any sugestions for tires? One thing ive noticed about the boss is its terrible in the rain holy hell. You cant take any tight turns or give it any gas

+Kaydn Burns I have always been a fan of Continental and Michelin. They both have some amazing high performance all season tires that I have used in the past on previous cars. My last Supercharged Saleen had Michelin Pilot Sport A-S plus and I was very happy.

Don't drive on pzero " summer " tires in inclement/cold weather. Also , realize how the mt82 works or upgrade to gt500 trans. Credentials: 2013 5.0 owner/daily driver and full time tire technician. 😎

The only legitimate gripe here is related to the shifter, but it can be remedied with an inexpensive MGW shifter kit. And I couldn’t honestly tell you whether my Boss’s stereo even turns on, because I have never tried it. Not even once.

How many miles are on your boss and how is the alcantara steering wheel holding up? I want to upgrade to one but a lot of bosses I have seen wear down bad.

My Bluetooth connects 9/10 times automatically. Sometimes I have to tell it to go to Bluetooth audio

I would think the monthly car payment would be at the top of your hate list. Tons of years ago my second car was a 1966 Mustang GT Fastback with the Hi-Po 289 with 271 horses and coppertone in color. Bought it for $1000. What a great time I had in that! I ended up selling it to raise money for college which was a smart move. Sure I'd like to have that car now but, honestly, what can you really do with these cars?. The ZL-1 Camaro is essentially a race car you can run on the street and is totally awesome. Basically, unless you are Randy Probst, you do not have the capability of driving these cars near they're limits. And if you try to get it up there on the street you are asking for big trouble. The other day I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the highway which is the daily norm in the Denver area when a new Shelby GT-350 pulled up next to me in the other lane. I just started laughing. The guy thought he was cool but, there he was, just like me creeping along at 5 mph. He thinks he looks cool and he might make a pull on the weekends for 10 or 15 seconds but, not much more. I'm in my Honda Accord now, 30 mpg and the A/C works nice. Go get 'em Boss man!

The transmission and shifter is crap. My '99 Cobra with the T-45 and a Pro-5.0 and my '03 Cobra with the T-56 and an MGW shifter are flawless. My '12 with the Getrag is not so good. It has been stuck in gear, not gone into first and has even gone into reverse and wouldn't come out. The semi-remote shifter is a major problem. When the motor and transmission twist one way under acceleration, where it is attached to the tunnel doesn't, causing the linkage to bind. Sometimes it stays bound up somewhat even after you stop and can cause problems getting into gear, like I have had happen. MGW and Pro-5.0 make shifters that mitigate that. Better yet, get a T-56 and be done with it. It may cost a few bucks, but it is the best out there. Great car and great videos, either way.

I COMPLETELY agree! Its on the list of things to do. I just uploaded a installation and review video of the Whiteline lower controls arms. Next is the upper control arm so I am ready for the 1 piece driveshaft. Question is Ford Racing or the driveshaft shop?

+Dany Tech thanks for the question. It is the 4 speaker setup. Definitely not the best stock sounding system but by no means the worst I have heard either.

It's not the transmission as much as the body mounted shifter. Get the MGW race spec. and you will realize what it should of came with! Just installed one on my 2013 GT and love it!

Sean, did you get the Boss 302 "owners kit" when you purchased the car? It includes a book with a fair amount of detail of roadrunner engine (www.donaldfarr.net/Books/MustangBoss302.aspx). Also, you should upgrade to MGW's latest 3rd generation shifter, the race spec. I no longer get lock-out since it was installed, and I'm on stock clutch..

+GHIG BOSS thanks for the advice. It's funny I have been thinking about swapping my first gen MGW for the new race spec. I was fortunate enough to get the complete owners kit with my car along with the car cover. Fingers crossed the new clutch really helps too!

The shifting in my 2013 Boss 302 was my number one complaint. However I simply put a Barton short throw shifter in, and problem solved. Took about half a day. I was simply blown away at the way the stock shifter was mounted and the soft rubber used which caused the whole damn thing to rotate under acceleration. 3rd and 5th gears were a bitch. Cmon Ford, stop being cheap...

Thomas Ziegelmann currently the car has a MGW shifter, blowfish racing bracket and new transmission fluid. All helped but it still has issues. Next would be a clutch and if that does not solve it. I al looking for an upgraded MT-82 transmission.... it's just money right lol

For brake dust, buy a quality waterless carwash. Much quicker & easier; won't scratch rims & U don't hav2 do entire car!

Clutch and shifter upgrades also do the trick and cost much less...the mt82 isnt a bad trans it is the shifter and clutch that cause basically all its issues...it holds a pretty damn good amount of power and its geared to where it makes 373 gears seem like 430s in a t56 which is also kind of cool. T56 is great but there are ways to fix the mt82 without spending nearly as much as another trans (a good one) would cost

Crazy how ignorant people can drive these kinds of cars. First of all, it’s a Roadrunner, not a Coyote. Second of all, the MT82 is not that bad of a transmission. I made 700whp through a stock MT82 and never had issues. Upgrade to a good clutch and put in some good fluid, and it fixes like 95% of the issues. But what would a guy with a NA Boss that probably hasn’t even hit 100mph know about that…

Are you kidding? Why would you buy a boss that you don't know how to handle? If you hate it give it away. Stop complaining. You might be better suited for a Prius. Its a 2012 why are you expecting a 2020? That's what you do with older cars, you spend money to make them last longer and upgrade them on the things you like.

Hes talking road course not drag strip...but even on a drag strip the difference is negligible IF the driver of the manual can row gears like theres no tomarrow like some can. Im talking 6r80 vs 6 speed manual. This doesnt apply to the 10 speed simply because the 10 speed has an unfair gearing advantage over a 6 speed manual which is 90% of the reason why its faster, not so much because its an automatic. Before you say it no you cant "outshift" a modern auto (btw i hate when people say that) but like i said IF you can drive there isnt much difference. The manual is 1000000 times more fun and is preferable in the twisties if you can drive and rev match down shift and heal toe etc. Its just easier to drive fast in twisties because you decide what gear youre in and when youre in it. Paddle shifters arent quite as crisp and are not ideal for this environment.
