Hope nobody got a heart attack from the title but hope some of you who saw the video was able to learn something that you typically couldn't from a normal review. If there are any G80 owners out there, or someone who's got first hand experience with the car, I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you and I hope you have wonderful holidays.

I own a base model G80 and love it but here's one more thing to add to your list, the G80 uses 3G wireless technology which will not be available in 2 or 3 years which means the Genesis Connected Services will not be available after that date. There goes the vehicle diagnostics, remote start and a bunch of other features.

My God man did you have a salesperson that knew anything? They should have told you that Genesis has been it's own entity since 2017. Hyundai backs a lot of systems because they supply all of the metal in the vehicle. It's only a Hyundai if it specifies that before Genesis. 1) If pickup was a concern at all, especially in a luxury class vehicle, than you should have been directed to the 3.3 version at only 5k more. The 3.8 awd is the worst of all the options for that platform. Which brings me to number two one the list. Response of controls. Look through your Genesis app and owner's manual to see that A) it is Alexa enabled as well as app controlled. Which can do the doors, the heating/ cooling as well as the trunk. Let's not forget that Toyota, Honda and Acura require phones to be connected to even get GPS features. The app and Alexa are meant to work and feed the car information from home or saved wifi connections. Meaning you shouldn't even be touching those knobs as everything should be ready upon start-up. In fact you bought the only other version without a 9.2 inch screen. The other being the premium package. That brings up number three, "the trunk don't have no button." Unlike the ultimate package, the 3.3 twin scrolling f1 inspired turbo or either 5.0 versions which have that and many more convenient options. There is a button. However if you don't get it right away fresh off the lot. Genesis is more than happy to install it for you afterwards. Which would locate it if I remember correctly by the lip of the trunk itself. Also the seats don't fold down because it is for reinforced safety. Number five was just a space filler so let's focus on number four. Again through the app and talk with your concierge about all features and functions your can really handle. To be honest as a former certified salesperson I am more upset with the person who sold you the car more than anything else. All of this information is available through multiple sources and the concierge really is there to help you with anything. It is a vital thing that most people don't use and then they say wtf. In closing it sounds like you got caught up in all wheel drive and wasn't told about how the suspension was formed to handle all weather conditions. I think a bigger or more reasonable dislike would be the illuminated door sills and projector LEDs on the doors that can be customized at the the turn of a screw driver. Another would be that your lights are Halogen and not LED. Giant difference. As they also don't guide around corners. Another dislike would be that your gauge cluster is almost half the size of all other listed models. That is where all your features truly stay. While a minor detail it isn't as trivial as water bottle storage. The official trainer's response was that owners simply open the center console at the discomfort of the driver. Otherwise the shifting issue is really just $20-$25 dollars difference a month in payments. Things to consider when looking at cars 1) always check out the manuals in the show room 2) calculate the difference per month. In a video like this it would have been a top two reasons I don't like the genesis g80

Great videos. As someone who both owns a G80 and who works in the car business, I can answer one of your questions. The reason Hyundai would choose NOT to put fold-down seats in a var like this is that as it is, that solid back panel (with a rectangular hole cut for the pass-thru) adds "solidity" to the vehicle. The giant hole cut to allow fold-down seats allow the vehicle to "flex" more over bumps, cracks, debris, potholes, etc. Leaving the mostly solid back panel eliminates that, and with a bonus, that the added structural integrity also helps make the car safer in an accident.

Quick correction, the electric trunk is not really what they say it is. It doesn't open with motors, it actually uses springs that push it up. They designed the trunk in a way so that it opens up enough to allow the springs to push it up.

Thanks for posting the video. I owned a 2016 Genesis 5.0, which is the same as the G80. I loved that car! It was very fast and it looked great. People often didn’t know what kind of car it was. As someone else already responded to, your issue with the power trunk is only because you have a lower model of the G80. I was able to open and close the trunk via a button from the trunk. I was also able to close the trunk from the inside of the car too. Just push and hold the button and it closes. I currently own a G90 now and of course, this option is standard. Also, you’re correct in the reasoning behind your garage door opener buttons not working while the vehicle is off. It is a security issue. As a former law enforcement officer, I can tell you first hand that it is. I would always advise people not to leave their garage door openers on their visors because it could be an easy way for someone to gain access to your home. But if it’s in the mirror, what do you do? My issue with the G80 as well as the G90 is the infotainment system. It’s the same as pretty much any Hyundai. They’re going to have to differentiate the two because that’s one of the first things you see when you start a car and if your in a “Luxury” spin-off brand that you’re trying to separate from the lower brand, it shouldn’t look exactly the same when you look at the screen. I mean come on.... They took the time to make sure that “Hyundai” can’t be found anywhere on the vehicle. Even on the windows, it says Genesis. The 2020 G90 looks beautiful and nothing like a Hyundai. Let’s just hope that carries over to the infotainment system.

Hi thank you so much for stopping by and thank you for your service Robert. Fantastic upgrade to the G90, a truly mind blowing car. I cannot believe the quality they’ve crammed in it for the price. I was at an auto show sat in a Rolls Royce Ghost and right after into a G90 it was identical levels of quality. I loved all the metal switch gears and the solidity of it. I did see the new 2020 G90 it is incredible, I hope the new G80 can be equally great! Thanks again for watching and best of luck in 2019!

I Love everything about my G80 - I do not have any of the problems You’ve addressed in this video. Touch Screen has no lag, boots quickly. Maybe have dealer check if a system problem. No hesitation when I press on the gas pedal the car goes immediately. I do agree i wished the back seat backs fold down. However, that would remove rigidity, and affect safety of the vehicle. The Engineers know what they are doing! I Love everything about the automobile! Previous cars MB E550, and a Lexus. I prefer G80!

Hi there. Two-time Genesis owner here: 2017 G80 base 3.8 HTRAC base model (very similar to yours) and 2018 3.3 Ultimate (current vehicle). Huge fan of the the Genesis brand and plan on the 2021 GV80 being my next purchase once it hits the US market. Everything about that car screams perfection. With regard to your Genesis G80 beefs...Pretty much agree with you on everything, however the Ultimate addresses most of these issues (as others have clearly addressed). Want to know the biggest thing I hate about Genesis, though?? The defrost setting!!! Touch the defrost setting, and for reasons I will never understand, it starts up in FULL BLAST mode and doesn't stop. Even if you manually turn the intensity down, when you restart the engine it goes right back to FULL BLAST mode automatically. This happens regardless of the temperature in the car. The defrost ALWAYS comes out with full blast intensity. It is a total Genesis glitch and I HATE it. Please someone say they have noticed this so I don't feel like a crazy person!

I’m on my FOURTH Genesis G80 ranging model years 2016-2022. If you’re considering or purchasing a Generation ONE G80 I highly recommend finding one that’s equipped with the Lexicon NOT “Premium” audio system. It will say Lexicon on all four of the door speaker covers on the top right corner ALSO Lexicon is branded on the radio at the bottom left corner of the center stack by the volume control knob. You’ll gain a multitude of features with audio system not limited to amazing audio quality. The most important change being a control dial that will be centered below the gear selector surrounded by SIX PUSH-BUTTONS, 3 on each side of the knob (four on the left if you have the 360 View Camera System). This will eliminate the need for you to control all vehicle functions via the touchscreen only. The system lags something awful which is distracting when you’re trying to navigate the menus or driving. The climate control is integrated into the screen, opting for the lexicon Soundsystem gives you a better sound system, and makes overall vehicle operation safer & convenient. I was so blessed to recently acquired a 2022 G80 Sport and I absolutely LOVE IT!! As a diehard gearhead and Automotive/Avation appraiser, I chose THIS vehicle make and model for the following reasons; AMG-ish acceleration, Audi braking performance, BMW-esk handling, Toyota build quality & reliability, all that in a Yugo price point. If you know you know!!

@GotronFerret

Just wanted to throw in some comments versus the ‘18 Genesis G80 5.0 Ultimate HTRAC that I have. 1. Transmission delay is entirely programing rather than a “bad trans.” I do see your point. However, it's far less prevalent on the 3.3t/5.0 variant. There’s simply more power and something you generally don’t notice and tend to easily compensate for over time by applying more throttle. As you noted it’s also improved in Sport mode. Still something Genesis should further tune out going forward. Or add a “Sport Plus” mode. 2. The Ultimate trim with the 9.2 screen is a different infotainment system than what you have there. It has an updated interface and internals, which is much more responsive across the board. To the point where I have no complaints; it works great. Other than it could boot up faster. 3. While the trunk is average for the class, do agree that split folding rear seats should be standard. The Ultimate also has two buttons on the top of the trunk lid. One to close. Another to close + lock doors. 4. I did find the lack of power to rear-view mirror to be unusual versus most vehicles out there. But once again, as you noted, I gave them a pass for the Security aspects. 5. More cup holders are always welcome. Hasn’t been an issue for me, but once again, valid point. Good to hear you’re otherwise enjoying your G80. I’m quite happy with mine. Enjoy! 😉

I own a 2019 G80 3.3 and only two of the 5 hates applies to the one I own. It's the garage opener. Yes, if I drive into the garage and shut off the engine the opener will not work. Therefore, I either get out and close it or restart the vehicle. There is no lang time in acceleration, or on the screen. However, I did note the G80 3.8 does take off a bit slower than the 3.3. I don't know the difference in what those numbers means, but I would have thought the 3.8 would have a better take off. The side pocket never occurred to me to be inadequate because I don't use it. I do not like the cup holder in the center back. It could be more useful if they added a storage inside, instead just an arm rest. I had a Toyota Avalon with that same type but it was made as a storage and cup holder. If you had kids they could put their small toys, books, phones etc. and if you allow them to eat, it could serve as a tray to hold their food. I loved that feature of the Avalon. I hate this space is wasted. Overall, I love this car.

I own an 2017 g80 3.8L. By far, the worst problem is that the computer takes too long to boot. I've noticed this is much better in the newer models. The door auto lock/unlock system is not as good as my wife's camry hybrid. The trunk floor is cardboard held up by air. I've had to put wood under it for support. The key fob is practically the size of a phone. It needs to be smaller. The buttons get accidentally hit when it's in my pocket. That doesn't happen with the other key fob I've got in the same pocket (for camry hybrid). Like this video says, this car can stall when you need pickup from a very low speed (but not from higher speeds). I'm sure this is not a problem in the 3.3T/5.0 models. This car has a very quiet ride, right size for what I wanted, great turning radius, good radio, good seats, good GPS, good voice control, love the concierge service. Since my biggest complaint is good enough in the new models, I would still consider buying this again.

I strongly considered this and the stinger and test drove both. All these reasons are why I went stinger. At the end of the day the tuning and hatchback are the reasons I went Stinger. I know the ride is more comfortable in the g80 but practicality is a let down.

5 things I hate about my *base model* Genesis G80. You're welcome. I own a 2018 G80 Sport. No issues with acceleration, no issues with infotainment, most luxury vehicles don't have split rear seats, water bottle issue is silly and Homelink safety makes sense (not sure why you would hate that). Maybe upgrade.?

😂😂😂😂What year is this one??? I just bought a 2016 three weeks ago and it has two buttons on the trunk lid......One to close it without locking the car, the other to close it and lock the car. And I love everything about it so far. I have 0 complaints as of tonight. My only complaint would be to not have bought one in 2016.......That way it would have been low in mileage right now........ But, I have to keep it real.......I couldn't afford it then😂😂😂😂.

I just updated the Navigation, which is free by the way. It fixed a number of issues with the whole Navigation System. The Garage Door Button on the mirror works if the car is off. The overall responsiveness of the system is smoother and faster. The Voice Recognition for Navigation is spot on, I spoke a complicated street address and it grabbed it the first time. However, the Call Parents or Call Kim type of operations still get clunky. I can adjust the temp of the climate system without using the interface. My transmission in this car does not have that maddening delay, although my 2013 did. I have noticed that most vehicles if you slowly roll to a stop sign, then give it gas, have a delay, that is an emmissions thing. So, the car needs to be stopped before it will respond. However, my 2017 RWD does not have this issue.

It’s still the same essential car under all the gimmicks. The trans will still be slow to react, storage does not improve with size, screen still lags and Hyundai/Genesis still doesn’t separate the climate control from the screen so if the screen breaks you loose all access to climate control. Your quirks go up with the more shit they pack in to a car. I love my base model, and one thing Jeffrey, this is the greatest modern day vehicle created, I suggest you watch the first minute of this video and the rest of the videos I made on the car

I owned the 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Htrac Ultimate. I did not experience a laggy transmission. I actually felt confident that it was going to instantly move when I hit the gas. My experience with the infotainment screen was that it was great as far as not having any lag. My biggest and only real complaint with the car was the day night illumination of the screen, it needed to have separate illumination levels for day and night. I found my self having to adjust this daily for three years. Freaking annoying. I do agree with the rest of your complaints but i really never bothered me enough to even think about them. That said by far the best car i have ever owned. in one word solid. I am currently driving a 2018 Honda Accord 1.5 t Touring and I have 20 things I hate about the car. G80 and G90 are the best cars Korea makes. Proper chassis and double wishbone suspension geometry that makes the 2 cars feel like 6 figure quality and far more substantial. Stinger and G70 are compromised versions of the G80, they strip the superior suspension for a budget strut based setup in the front which now lacks true mechanical grip so now they just over tire it and put Michelin Pilot 4s tires on it to make it feel better than it is

I don't like that the rear pull down to get into the trunk isn't designed to open and hold items. Wasted space. It's also a bit hard to pull down/open. My man Kevin doing it again! When are you going to star on Savagegeeses channel lol I am officially going to buy a 2017 G80 5.0 Ultimate CPO next weekend. I drove the G90 ultimate and kia K900 ultimate to figure out what I truly want in a car. I have to drive the G80 to see if I truly like how it rides and if its as quiet as the flagships. The G90 felt like it was overkill for just me driving it daily. The K900 was a mixed bag with how it rides over choppy pavement and had its interior gimmicks. I just want a quiet, smooth ride, and a V8. The G80 takes the best of both cars in my opinion.

Hyundai will try to tell you it’s dirty injectors or a misfire or they may tell you it’s normal. Ah, gotcha. I’m actually currently looking at buying a 2016 3.8 AWD Genesis. Anything I should be worried about? I really love the looks and available features of this sedan.

@@macatron69 those can be had for a good price right now I really like the car if it’s being sold at a dealership, is it possible that you can ask for a quote on a bumper to bumper warranty that is pro rated?
