Moved here to the Philippines in May of 2018. I had a class I had to teach to the Oregon National Guard, and in less then a week later we were here. And I;m saving a lot of money here, because of the lower cost of living. I have never regretted my move. We also retired so I have a steady income, And that helps a lot. Just sign a contract to buy a piece of ground. So I will be paying off the land. And my rent is $100.00 per month for the place we live. As you said pack and sent before you leave. The freight to the Philippines is very slow 2 1/2 to 3 months from the west coast of the US. We pre-shipped everything we wanted. I agree just pack up and go.

Your topics about downsizing and getting rid of materials is the stage we are in right now and we will be selling our home in Austin TX at the end of this year with and move ASAP...currently selling stuff and filling balik bayan boxes. Very good info. In the process of getting down to a backpack, a suitcase, and one balikbayan box. I have very few things, pictures, important family stuff that I'll store with my sister, the rest in the trash or sell cheap. I'll be 100% retired, no need for a business. Hope to land in PH Q1 2024. All good reasonable logical insight, I would say that there are different variables involved in terms of where you are in life re: age, mindset, finances, fixed or otherwise which will determine your successes and failures in a place like the Philippines. You provide good information to help some of us, let's be honest, to cut through the BS while referencing our expectations. Much of what we'll experience will happen when our boots hit the ground and we can hopefully be better prepared to take on the obstacles and bumps in the road. The whole point in making such a move is to be happier and live life while also taking care of business to make the transition smoother while remaining vigilant and taking heed and listening to someone such as yourself and your willingness to convey realistic information, thanks.

My only thought was about visiting my family ( estranged) before leaving ( my mom was just put in a nursing home too)… but I’ve decided against it.. not much point… I realize that once I leave here for the Philippines that I’m never coming back here.. so I have been following you around the time you started posting about Belgrade Serbia .. Since then, I actually moved to Belgrade ( before I lived in UK , Germany , Luxemburg etc ) .. After watching this video I can agree to a lot of these observations you put here. For people thinking of making any similar choice (moving to another country) I can only tell you to try it and feel the process and other life aspects. You would feel more sad later in time you did not try it vs trying and getting the experience. Also, the research part is true, a lot of people make videos look super nice for the views and omit to tell you 100%. Best info I will give to anyone coming here. I was stationed here and know this place. Invest in quick dry fabric, especially the underwear. Bamboo is great, but even polyester and nylon. Also the very, very important is Beta dyne. It comes in a creme here. It's vital for anti fungal and yeast infections. You do not want to be suffering from the constant humidity and sweating in cotton drawls. 😎

Great topic that I have lived and explored moved and then come back to USA due to Medical situation. You especially caught my attention mentioning Albania and Serbia I have considered visiting Albania next. Like you say many KZfaq channels paint a Rosy picture that is possibly valid for tourists but to go and live there is completely different and that example follows to the Philippines. I have extensive knowledge firsthand of some very dark Dirty Secrets, that most KZfaqrs are apparently allergic to and really hate when I bring up the reality and foreigners being a Target. Well guess what the people that I personally knew my in-laws were not foreigners they were Filipinos and they were viciously murdered in Cebu. I would love to hear more about Albania and wonder where you are located in the Philippines? I've never been in Europe at all I've only traveled to Asia and lived in Asia for a year. I am currently on the west coast USA dealing with life sustaining dialysis, and look forward to the day I get a transplant and get my freedom back. I am looking forward to my early retirement in December 2022. I have prepared for it. I sold my home quickly, and got rid of everything and was left with 2 check in luggages and a handcarry. I made arrangements for my finances with my financial adviser. I opened an account with Charles Schwab so I could use their debit card at atm's in the Philippines. I made final arrangements with my retirement funds. I paid all my debts and opened a cheap cell phone plan with a US number. So that number can be used for my bank/credit card company to send security codes when needed.

I'm a Chef so it might be hard to do what I do there in the Philippines, or with an Internet base. Her family suggested Hog Farm, so we will continue to research.

My wife and I were planning to retire and move to the Philippines, Compostela COMVAL province to be precise. We did research and had agents lined up for shipping a 40 foot container with everything we owned. We were all set to go then my step father got Mesothelioma. We postponed and put everything on hold. Had we gone ahead with the move we would have lost everything when Typhoon Pablo struck Mindanao and Compostela Vally in particular. So after the step father died we just had lost interest in heading to the Philippines but we went ahead and rebuilt our compound there making it Typhoon proof. Now the wife has decided it is definitely time to make the move now. This time we are going to sell everything here and just ship maybe 10 or 20 Balikbayan boxes full of things that is nor readily available in the PH.

balik bayan boxes are cheap , but honestly you can buy anything these days, most important is bring cash the more the better

Sold off most everything the last 6 months. Kept a few things that fit in 4 boxes, shipped those over. Going on 2 months here and loving it, for some it will not be for them. Yes cutting things loose in your life is like leaving memories. Have you traveled to Guam , I'm leaning towards it because of the medical benefits. If you're gonna travel, travel light, did it for 40 years, and pay attention to your surroundings. What l mean by traveling light is , if it doesn't fit in one bag , it doesn't go. I might not believe you but would borrow money from ya.

Some guys can make a living on line I'm not one of them not going to make money on U tube the older i get the less i desire to move there yet i have a house there . Just want to added some info that I think can help to all foreigners like to move in Philippines..Just make sure you have enough money to do/have business in Philippines. The cost of living there is so affordable and if you have business there are so good.The cost of labor if you have business is low,and you can get more2x money if your good business minded.The house and lot in there are so affordable too..And more important is SO MUCH FUN IN PHILIPPINES, that you can't find in other country,I've been in 13 countries already but still I love my country less stress and people in there was funny and happy people.A LONGEST DAY celebrating christmas ...

We moved to the Philippines and spent too much shipping over 20 Balik Bayan BOXES. If we could go back in time we would have brought only 2 suitcases each. You don't need all that stuff! The dollar value of all the items in the boxes could have easily been used better by replacement items here for less $$. SELL IT ALL BEFORE YOU MOVE TO THE PHILIPPINES. Especially ALL of your clothing!

Good advice, I'm trying to cut the cord now, friends are telling me to take it slow, keep the house, etc, which I think is bad advice. I'm giving away a lot of things, everyone says I shouldn't give away so much, losing tens of K in the progress, but doing so will save just as much money, so it is simpler.
