Here in the USA, most folks live alone, in P.I they live with family. In USA chicken is sometime fed to the dogs, in P.I chicken is celebrated in the dinner table. In USA, we use credit cards for most purchases, in P.I it's a cash driven society. Here in the USA crime is in every block of major cities, in P.I you can walk freely at night with little worries. Here in USA we buy most of our food, but in P.I you can go out and eat for little $$. Here in USA you can work as many jobs as you want, in P.I you would be lucky to get a job. Here in USA a degree in any university gets you a job, performance and job history takes you to the top, in P.I is based on what school you go to and who you know in the company. In the USA, its only a dream to live near the ocean, in P.I I can live near the ocean anytime with very little $$$. A summary of some of the difference I know between the two countries. Born in P.I but raised in USA but retiring next month near Manila. Happy Travels yahhh!!

Enjoying this content - keep up the great work! Your point about off-loading material possessions isn't for everyone, but I personally find it very freeing and less burdensome. Its been a work in progress practicing minimalism but I'm really beginning to see the benefit(s) from it. My ultimate goal is to get retired in about half dozen years and move overseas. Having "less on my plate" when that day comes will make the transition easier. Cheers from the left coast 👍

Most of my life here in northern Luzon is very basic, and with consultation of the wife, most tasks are either done by her or we hire a person to do the work for us. Driver, Maid, care taker (yard), are hired out. We are not the type to go out for dinner- entertainment so much, trips are usually to the beach to cool off some, up into the hills (called mountains here) to get a change of view, into some of the major city's to visit family. It is not so unusual to find that people here tend to make friends with people that have a potential to be of help to them if needed and who they may help if needed. TIME----called filipino time here perplexed me for awhile but now I understand its meaning....if your invited to go somewhere (party starts at 5 pm) then that is usually when people leave to go..strange. I use to encourage wife and family to leave early enough to be there at desinated time, only to find I was always the first to arrive, many times even before the party was ready to start....Not much/ many reasons for an American to go hungry here as it is custom for a home owner to invite you to eat and or drink when you enter their property.. ect..

Hmmm, I recognise the “way to big of a house”. I too have a large house, I grew up that way and it felt like this was expected of me to do. I don’t use most of the space and as you say, cleaning… I’ve lately been thinking of downsizing to something more suitable. I’ve found I actually find smaller homes more cosy, and the more space you have the more crap you keep… Also the money it frees up can be put to better use to generate income rather than sit there as a dead stack of bricks. Glad to hear this thought you had Regards from Belgium

I'm a retired trucker, and use a headset called "Blue Parrot BT450". As you can probably imagine, our work environment is very loud. I can literally drive my truck with my stereo on in the background and people wouldn't hear anything beyond my voice. Bluetooth headset is over the head with a Boom microphone that comes to the edge of your mouth. Nobody will hear anything except your voice. Long range, you can walk around the house, do chores, cook, etc.. Nobody will know. Nope, I'm not a salesman, but it seems like you need a solution. Oh, I sent one to my girlfriend in Dumaguete because of her environmental noises. Now I don't hear surroundings. Great video again. Waiting for the next one 👍

3:55 I have one wealthy Filipino friend that uses a central air conditioning system in their house here in Cebu, but by and large, finding that is slightly less likely as finding a Filipino house that has a dishwasher (very very rare). Heaters are completely unknown here, it already is more than hot enough. 6:43 Yes, paper does not hold up well in tropical climates unfortunately 15:42 Not only is the electricity much more expensive, we do have to deal with power outages from time to time. 18:13 Like your comment about how it was possible to get a large lawn with a forest if you really wanted to, there are also plenty of subdivisions/gated communities where you don't have to deal with that sort of thing (maybe you might hear some dogs) as long as you're willing to pay for it.

You choose what you choose. Live with it or leave and go back where you came from. I am a Filipino in United States. I used to lived in rich neighborhood of United States. I've lived in Arlington Heights, Illinois, suburb of Chicago. Then we moved to Lost Nation, Dixon Illinois on a gated subdivision with 24 hours security guard, with 19 holes golf course, 100 acres man made Lake, with private beach and private camp ground. After 10 years, we moved to North Carolina and lived in the richest neighborhood of Charlotte, NC where lot prices alone was 1 million an acre in the year 2000. Two and a half acres required to build a house. My house was 2.5 acres and 2 story. Doctors used to owned my house for 18 years. I was the second owner. The we built 1.4 million house in Myrtle Beach. I live now in South Carolina with 8 acres land and 3 bedroom double wide mobile home. It's a far cry from the life I had before. But it's what I choose. I walked away from that life and lost millions through divorce. I have no regrets. I live poor now but I'm happy. I haven't worked for 7 years now and never have to work ever again.

Having so much stuff in the USA is stressful, but downsizing is hard to do for some of us. So don't sell everything, do a trial run like I am doing, a long term visit and then back home. The malls are insanely busy here and can be stressful for people like me who like personal space. The taxi's are too small for me, I can barely squeeze into them, I haven't even tried a trike or jeepney. I wouldn't want to drive in this traffic. In the 3 weeks I have been in Davao the electricity only went out once for 5 minutes. Noise pollution here in the condo is less than I faced back in the USA. When I worked from home in Dallas it drove me insane with all the leaf blowers, weed wackers, and lawn mowers that were in my neighborhood during work hours. I was a remote worker for decades before it became vogue, so I hated lawn crews.

It's in the top 5 cities, friendly, safe, international airport, infrastructure, beaches, shopping malls, better cost of living (apartment Php5k monthly). I moved from Metro Manila to Iloilo 2016, and the cost of living is still the same. Same apartment near the beach, fully furnished, cable tv with wifi and water included. The only thing I pay is electric (4-5k monthly). Monthly budget less than 30k for two people.

So getting a generator may be a good backup plan depending on where you live. The last point you made concerning noise pollution is why many ex-pats hesitate in actually purchasing land with a spouse because after all the hard work of getting your property in order this may lead to you getting stuck with noisy neighbors years later. Relatives move in or inherit property etc which could be a major disrupter to the "quiet enjoyment" of a domicile.

I am in a similar situation. Filipina wife and I work from home in the US, but I am considering moving to the Philippines and I would continue to work for my USA employer. My questions are about taxes. What are the tax issues? Does the Philippines want to tax your income? I found this, "An alien individual, whether a resident or not of the Philippines, is taxable only on income derived from sources within the Philippines." . . . so is your income protected from Philippine taxes? Can you claim the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, which for the tax year 2021 is $108,700? And any other advice/issues that you know of. Thanks

I too am a resident in the Philippines, good video but perhaps you should stress the (really important differences). I Keep my US home, due to the uncertain situation in both countries. I have a license there compliments of the (LTO) Land,Transportation office. But if you have a pension, I have several, don't drive!!, I sold my car there, why?, because unlike the US, if a drunkard wanders in front of you, your fault or not, it is automatically your fault regardless. You will be jailed immediately and your pension will be drained. Second topic, age?, their medical facilities are terrible, and crowed, there are better hospitals in urban areas, but if your in your mid 50's or 60's not very wise to stay there full time. The people are beautiful, unlike the US, in which many people are rude, impatient and isolationists. You can life very well there with a fraction of the money you would need in the US, But!, you will also give up many, many comforts. but your video is good, regardless. thanks

I see alot of the homeless here in CA pushing around their things in carts, even they have more "junk" than the average Filipino has. We literally hold our belongs more valuable than our life's. It's sad in my opinion.

Where does the term expat come from? Like, why isnt it just called "immigrant" like every other person who moves /stays in another country?

Expat is just the shortened term for "EXPATRIATE" which means people who live outside their own country.

Because they are two different things. Immigrants move to a different county to work and move permanently. Whereas an expat describes someone that moves to another country on a temporary basis.

Life in US is very, very stressful! Constantly being barrage with bills, everything is very expensive, including medical care! No matter how much I have tried to do everything right and obeys all the laws, still not enough. Complaints, road rage, mass shootings, high inflation, high fuel costs, water crises, power bills, more taxes to pay for everything. No wonder many Americans have mental and health problems due to stress! people here are greedy for more money, no end in sight! until death, people here will get everything I own. No respect at all. I guess I will just be cremated, and my ashes will be flushed down the toilet!

I am a Filipino, all those problems here in the Philippines will be solved by the new government I believe that can be done, compared to our previous administrations
