Tiffany! I am so glad to have you to share all of the tips you’ve learned! I’m a first gen student so I’ve been going through undergrad on my own, but I’m so thankful for you to share your experience in a post grad program. Thank you for sharing! ❤️

I am currently going through the internship process (for mental health counseling not school psych) but it definitely feels like there is a lot of overlap! This was a really helpful video, thank you for sharing! That imposters syndrome is SO real at times

it's so cool that you can relate. i think most trainees feel like imposters and some degree of that is probably not a bad thing!

I love outlook. I usually double click the event on the calendar’s tab to find the information for the event. But I agree that it’s slightly annoying that the event email disappears after you accept /:

I've learned to look at deleted messages or search through my calendar for the event. I don't know why it has to disappear though! Thanks for watching :D

Hi! I watched your KZfaq videos while I applied to school psychologist programs, and they were so helpful! I actually got a few interviews! Any tips about what to have prepared?
@TiffanyLee
@TiffanyLee 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Riley! Congratulations on the interviews!! I would love to make a video with some interview tips.I highly recommend doing some research about the program and faculty (research interests, focus of the program, etc) and practicing interview questions. They usually ask what you know about the field and why you want to pursue it. They'll also ask a slew of questions about yourself (strengths and weaknesses, experiences working with kids, how you deal with conflict, etc). Make sure you come with questions to ask and just be yourself! You're already qualified if they called you for an interview and they probably want to see if you're a good fit with their program. Hope this helps!

Something that I have noticed when I accept event invites on outlook is that they end up in the deleted items folder after the invite is accepted

I wish I had known this in the beginning! Why does it get deleted when you accept it, though?!🤦🏻‍♀️

Do you have recommendations for intervention books? I have a bit of a lull between practicum and internship and want to prepare
@TiffanyLee

Hey! Have you checked out my videos on rating my grad school books yet? I mention a few that are good resources for the field. In addition to that, I'm planning to get my hands on the RTI book by chidsey.

Hey Tiffany! I am currently finishing up my BA in psych and going for MSEd in school psych. I have watched some videos on this topic some say there is no counseling involved (they have said it's a different area and the children get sent to the guidance counselor) other videos I have seen and the video you posted about applying to internships say there is a counseling children component. Could you clarify this for me? :)
@TiffanyLee

Hey! So the amount of counseling you do as a school psychologist pretty much depends on which grade levels you work with and your job description from your county. I also think your school culture can impact your role. Typically, you'll do less testing and more counseling and crisis management in middle and high school just due to their age and stage in life. If your county and psych department advocates for mental health and SEL, you will most likely do more small group counseling and interventions. However, if a county views your role as a sped gate keeper/ testing machine (and you're in elementary), that may end up becoming the bulk of your role. Additionally, if your ratios are insane, you might not have the time to ever do anything outside of testing, which is why our ratios need to improve. Hope this helps!

Does your supervisor attend your IEP meetings with you?
@TiffanyLee
@TiffanyLee 3 жыл бұрын
Psychologists in my county don't attend IEP meetings but we go to eligibility meetings (which I found were basically IEP meetings in california?). My supervisor attends eligibilities with me but my friends are in districts where that's not the case. I think it depends on your district's expectations of interns and what the program entails
