I think duplicating listings can work, but not for split testing. I agree with you on split testing. For me, I sell glass flowers that I hand make, and they come in four different colors. So I created four copies of my listing, where color has its primary title and picture. In each listing, all four colors are available, but if you were looking for pink glass flowers, you will find that listing. Funnily enough, only about half the orders I get off a listing are for the primary color. For example, the pink flowers are only pink about half the time, the rest of the time they are yellow, blue, or purple. But when I only had one listing, I saw a lot fewer sales.

I agree. So many KZfaqrs are trying to make a killing publishing videos that show us how to make millions while we sleep. The fact is, if you could make easy money on Etsy, the gurus wouldn't be giving away the secret for free on KZfaq. The click-bait says it's easy, but you're a sucker if you fall for it.

I have a question - if everyone follows your advice - what makes one’s shop different from another shop also following your advice? Doesn’t it just create a bunch of boring clone shops?
@brandcreators

Actually, I'm trying to get people to think bigger and not just what they can sell on Etsy. Building a brand allows you to create your own customer base that can you can direct traffic eventually to your own website store.

@@brandcreators yes. But only if you have something unique and worthwhile to sell. Also can you explain what is going on with POD and Etsy holding funds so you carry the cost when people purchase until Etsy clears the funds? I am thinking of taking down all my POD stuff

Building a Brand and making money on Etsy are 2 complete different things. He's trying to get new sellers to not fall into the trap that new sellers fall into with the KZfaq people. Not everyone on Etsy is on for the same reasons and I'm sure 1 in probably every 20 people make substantial money.

I think its just like he said. He offers his professional advice and what worked for his business. But eventually it is up to each and one of us how we apply it. Some of us will have the skill, determination or creativity to apply these advices in our own way and make it work. Others will not. We re not all going to succeed with exact same clone shops becoming successful. We re all different and different things drive us.

You are so wrong about the consumer. If I buy something from a shop - I want to buy a bunch of that stuff from that store / not stuff in a single niche.
@brandcreators
@brandcreators 16 күн бұрын
I think you misunderstood the point. That's exactly why the niche based approach works
@Toni-hd4xw

@@brandcreators ah no, I might buy baby stuff once but I buy stuff for myself all the time. I won’t buy those things for myself from a store marketing to gift niches.
@brandcreators
@brandcreators 16 күн бұрын
"gifting" wouldn't be a niche :) A Niche the way that we talk about it is something people say they love or Identify as. E.g. Fishing. If you're really into fishing you're likely to buy multiple things from that store (either all at once, over time, or both). You are not nearly as likely to come back and purchase from a "random gifts" or a "funny t-shirt" store.

I make three types of crafts that overlap quite a bit. I don't think anyone stopping by my shop would be confused by it at all. Maybe selling luxury soap and candles alongside vintage fishing equipment might be confusing, but I don't think you have to have a totally narrow focus. I mean, boring...I buy from shops that sell different types of things all time. Have to say, this advice kinda makes me sad. When I am looking for gifts, it isn't always just one thing I'm interested in or considering. Maybe Etsy isn't the place for me after all.

if everyone follows a niche then nothing new ever gets created. I hate when people push niches and trends. I dont care about either i dont want to copy cat everyone else. I probably wont ever make alot of money because of it but at least i stay true to myself and my art!!!
@brandcreators
@brandcreators 16 күн бұрын
Creating unique designs and products doesn't mean you can't have a niche :) Creating a product for a specific type of person (e.g. a fisherman) has nothing to do with being lazy and copycatting other people.

The problem with etsy and other similar stores is that the millisecond you upload a digital product, a billion crawlers have copied and mass-produced it in 18 different colours and started selling under various brands. Physical products are not immune, they are instantly copy-sold. This is why there are few genuine sellers and few genuine customers. Sellers copy-sell and customers screenshot-buy.
