Hi! I’m the Paloma in the video ✨🙆🏻‍♀️ thanks for using me as an example, since I usually struggle with balance and fit, especially for pants and shoes. Also, like you said, I like experimenting and having fun with my clothes regardless of fit. But, sometimes I do want to work within my proportions and it gets a bit confusing. I’ll take your advice and see how it turns out

Humble advice from a short girl: - mixing long-lined pieces and short-lined pieces is a good hack for shorter-petite people who still want to wear long lines (ex: short skirt, long jacket / maxi dress, cropped jacket). - If you’re wearing a shoulder bag, make sure it hits around the hip. If it hangs lower it can make the legs look shorter. -Weight of material: breaking up the weight/textures of fabrics is a good way to avoid the overall outfit looking too heavy. -If you are petite, wear petite sizes. Even if the article of clothing is oversized in some ways, it’s going to look much better if fits properly at the shoulders especially. Also having definition at the wrists looks really polished, rather than sleeves that hang over the hands.

Good tips! I personally think that a baggier jeans/cargo pants with a baby tee or a tighter top is a great pairing for shorter girls. So long as there's a high waist, I think it can work.

It took me a while to figure out what looked best on my short frame. I was never able to explain why things looked good or bad on me, but that it just made sense to wear or not wear certain things. I’m so glad I found the language and logic behind WHY something is flattering or unflattering on a short frame.
@alessia9328
@alessia9328 Ай бұрын
This time I disagree with you on 1 thing: if you are short you can do oversized without being swallowed. I think it's way more difficult if you are petite. But if you are just short you can wear oversized clothing that fits your other recommendations (fabric stiffness, round Vs angular, amount of waist definition, etc). For example i am 5'2 and I have a very short vertical line, but I wear oversized parachutes and get compliments on them! They are high-waisted, give me waist definition, and kinda create a round shape (kinda like balloon pants). I think that for every category of item of clothing (for example: oversized hoodie) there are multiple different version (sleeve shape, the way the hem was sowed, the fabric thickness and stiffness, the details, etc) and there will be one version for each body type. Some matches are way easier to make, some other times you need to find your unicorn.
@elliejeanroyden

I somewhat agree here! I think it’s relative right - so dressing oversized relative your shape as opposed to dressing, say, Gigi Hadid’s definition on oversized!

@@elliejeanroyden yes! Exactly! I absolutely love this concept. I am a kibbe romantic and I love street style, or a more slick 90's style. So I feel that the usual romantic recommendations can only bring me so far. But that's the real power of kibbe (or otherwise understanding your body type deeply) the fact thay you will be able to recognise what harmonises with your body, even if it doesn't fit the generic recommendations. I wear lots of items that are not from a category that is usually recommended for romantics, but they are a special version of those items. For example, I can never wear oversized hoodies, but my father had a vintage one, with dolman sleeves and the elastic part at the bottom is slightly smaller than the fabric at the hem, so when it was hemmed it almost created gathers, which combined with the type of fabric, creates a round and soft shape (as opposed to the straight fit that modern hoodies usually have), also the lenght works really nice for me. Sorry if I got carried away, but I love this subject, and I even feel it would be such a cool topic for a video. I think it would be very on brand for you, as your Style Roots are an amazing system that focuses on the style a person likes and wants to wear, rather than giving generic recommendations. Actually, this concept is really similar to your videos "look more playful/intimidating for the body types". I loved those videos so much. Also this ties to the "refine, focus, follow" methods, it's kinda like doing thay but also with your style roots/what you personally like. Maybe a follow up video on thay would be so neat! But I'm just giving you my 2 cents, you are doing an amazing job with your channel😊

At first I wasn’t feeling the body matrix as compared to kibbe because I was thinking it just generalizes some groups together. (Like sg, tr and r would all be short, narrow, round.) but actually, I think that might be a benefit because it’s a lot more realistic to dress for those more general lines rather than something hyper specific like kibbe

I agree that the hem placement on the pants/skirt makes a big difference. But I always thought that creating an unbroken vertical line was good for shorter people. One continuous line can look overwhelming on taller people because it may throw them off balance if they have a straighter frame (creating a pillar-like look), while on shorter people it can help balance them out by drawing the eye in a smooth vertical shape, opposed to many line breaks causing a similar effect as wearing horizontal stripes all over your body.

I have a question. I tend to follow the advice from this video, like my skirt lengths are generally either above the knee or long skirts that fall to about the ankle, but not longer. However, the one exception I have is full circle skirts, like 1950s house wife dresses. I tend to find these look best if they fall just past my knee. Any idea why this is? I imagine it had something to do with the shape since they are going out instead of straight down, especially if I wear petticoats underneath.

Hi! I love your video, I tried the body matrix myself and I think I got an overall understanding for my body. Nonetheless I would love a detailed video with examples for the different categories, as not all of them are obvious to me. I can clearly see the difference between straight and round shoulders and if they’re wide or narrow, but I don’t know what long or short shoulders would look like. Same for hands and feet, I know what wide/ narrow and long/ short looks like, but what are straight hands? How can a foot be rounded? Also, what exactly is the width of the chest, should I include my breast in this or is it just my ribcage? And does a straight chest also means a straight waist? I totally get that this system should be intuitive and capture the overall look and feel, but I’d love some more guidance because not every category feels self explanatory to me 🫶🏻

Number #3 is where I've gotten tripped up. If you have a longer torso or waist and one section of your legs is shorter you might have to fiddle around with where you break up the lines. For instance a mid waist above the knee skirt makes me look top heavy.

I'd love to see your suggestions for someone who is short, but for whom height is not their main consideration when it comes to clothing. I'm 5'3" and according to your matrix, I'm wide, round, and short, but because of the width in my frame, I'm not what most typing systems would consider 'petite' so a lot of the short body type recommendations don't work for me. However, because of my height, suggestions for people over 5'4" don't necessarily work either. What do you do when you're short, but not petite?

I have a difficult time with waist definition because my belly is thick and I am very wide,(I’m the most narrow just under my breast). I look similar to the woman wearing black yoga clothes in front of the white door but I think I’m more compact. I’m under 5’3 and my chest is wider than my shoulders, (double curve?) with short limbs. I’m only one hand 🖐️ width from my clavicle to the bottom of my bra band and one hand 🖐️ width from my bra to my belly button and another from there to my thighs. I think I have a small bone structure as my head, wrists and feet look too small for my body. If I were just looking at a forward silhouette, I’d say a long solid color body con dress looks best, but I don’t know if or where to break the line. I’m also not comfortable wearing cropped anything because of my weight and age. I get very confused marrying fashion with body type and age because I’m not trying to look fashionable, I just want to look balanced. Thanks for all suggestions.

Quick question as I’ve been confused for awhile now. How do I know if I’m a classic or a romantic? I see example pictures and honestly I can see myself in both. Don’t know if this helps but I have more rounded, soft shoulders, I am super short and appear short. I have very rounded, curvy features. I’m a typical pear shaped body carrying most of my weight in my lower stomach, thighs, hips, and butt. I have a rounded face shape and cheeks along with a rounded chest and buttocks. I have small hands and feet. My lips aren’t big but not thin either. I’ve been told my face almost looks like a bunny’s and my fiance even calls me bunny. I find that the clothing that looks best on me are dresses that are fitted at the top but Flowey at the bottom, anything v-neck, short shorts paired with a big chunky sweater, flowey pants, maxi skirts, shawls, drapped/flowy anything really, corsets, off the shoulder tops and maxi skirts paired together. The styles I look best in are very bohemian and feminine, kind of a retro rock and roll/grunge vibe, whimsigoth, and a kind of simple business casual. I look best in satin and velvet textured clothes. I’d appreciate if someone in the comments could help me out.😂 A plus would be if someone could give me my style essence/face type too!
@theresasteidl7925
@theresasteidl7925 Ай бұрын
Well, it’s hard to type someone just from a description, but the overall impression seems very romantic, for a classic your features don’t seem moderate enough. The aesthetics you like don’t necessarily have to tell something about your shape, you can wear any aesthetic when you consider your ‚right’ lines 😊 And for your essence, if you are a romantic bodytype chances are you got some romantic essence. I would guess the ‚bunny‘ resemblance might call for ingenue essence? Like big eyes and a youthful feel? I’m definitely no expert in this, so take it with a grain of salt 😅 but maybe it helps giving you some direction 🫶🏻

@@theresasteidl7925 Thank you! Quick question though, can I have an ingenue essence with smaller eyes? My eyes are not narrow but not necessarily huge either. Kind of in the middle. I kind of figured ingenue as I have what you’d call a baby face but I was confused due to my eye shape.

@@Anna19093 Well, I guess large eyes are one possible feature for ingenue essence, but given that most people have a combination of different essences, you don’t have to have every aspect of it. Same. I don't feel like I have a long vertical line at all, but for whatever reason, people do tend to think I'm taller than I am (and I'm not a habitual wearer of heels). Even people who are taller than me, so clearly it's there somewhere, even if I can't pinpoint it. All the advice says 7/8 ankle-length trousers and 3/4 should look good on me (romantic), but they don't. It has to have enough length to cover the ankle otherwise it looks like I'm wearing someone else's clothes that don't fit and they also make me look dumpy. If it's shorts, then they have to be very short, no more than halfway down my thigh. With trousers and cardigans, it looks better if I create an unbroken line of colour rather than making horizontal cuts with different colours. At least one of jacket or top has to match with bottoms to create that unbroken line of colour. The cute and quirky three different colours of blazer, top and trousers just looks so wrong on me. The strongest essences I have both are both romantic and ethereal. Since ethereal essence is one of the elongated ones, I think that's what limits some of the lines that should look good on a romantic (although a lot of romantic styles work on me). It good to find ideas and always fun to experiment with those to see if they fit for ourselves. Now I just look and styles I like and appreciate them on other people.
