My daughter had a boyfriend that is a pilot for Delta. He always told us to always fly in shoes that tie & long jeans. Avoid polyester. In case of an crash, your shoes will stay on better. Jeans will keep your legs covered. Polyester melts, on your skin. 😞 ALWAYS count the seats to the nearest exit to your front & behind you.

I’m a Delta flight attendant. The chance of your plane crashing is almost nonexistent. If you crash it probably makes no difference what you’re wearing. I wouldn’t stress. Pilots are funny! I avoid them like the plague.

Hi Heather, you know I love you but I actually disagree with most of your choices. Jeans are fine for a short flight but even if yours are super comfortable and you don't mind wearing them to sleep in on a long (overnight) flight, they will look terrible once you get there and you won't be able to count on them as part of your travel wardrobe! Same with dresses - your bare legs are going to touch all kinds of disgusting stuff and the dress itself will look like crap when you get there. Same for open-toed shoes - ugh, the stuff on the floors in planes and airports!! I wear joggers and a matching t-shirt that looks like a jumpsuit, and slip-on ("magic") sneakers (kiziks). I travel transatlantic a lot and these are the hacks that have worked for me.

I started dressing up last year to travel and have noticed 100% that I get treated differently and get compliments by airport staff-it’s the PERFECT start for a vacation even if it’s 7 am. I have a spring/summer travel outfit with pink pants, orange tank, white button up. As soon as I put it on-it puts me in the mood. I am vacation ready. My go to outfits are express/Ann Taylor pants, tank tops, turtle necks depending on weather with blazers or my Rails white button up. Dressing up but still being comfortable is my new thing. I’m not a fan of leggings/joggers to travel. I wear scrubs or pajamas 90% of my life. Travel wear is fun for me and sets the tone for vacation

Yes! Travel should always be comfortable especially if your sitting so close to people.. i like to wear cargos or wide leg pants so I can move freely.. nothing so close to my skin.. feels claustrophobic especially in closed quarters..

When I travel I’m usually going to Europe. I wear something comfortable that I intend to throw away or donate when I arrive. I bring almost nothing because I’m always going there to shop. 😂 I need all that space in suitcase to fill it up with new. ❤️

I try to make sure I don't have extra metal that will set off the sensors going through TSA Pre (jackets, buckles on belts and boots, jewelry, etc). My son actually set off the sensors when he was a preteen with gum in a pouch that had aluminum or something!

I travel every month from San Diego- so ALWAYS have layovers wherever I go...and I ALWAYS travel in black skinny jeans with stretch, black t or tank, leather jacket & COWBOY BOOTS!! I've had to RUN SO many times to catch a connecting flight & they're even more comfortable than sneakers!

It depends on how far and how long it takes....comfort matters . And there are plenty of clothing that are comfortable and look nice. I do not really think people will give a hoot how you look. Smell nice, and don't show too much skin.

I never travel in high heels or shoes I couldn't run in. For me, no slides, sandals, ballet flats, or sling backs. I am either in lace up sneakers or flat boots, always closed toe. If there's an emergency on board, sturdy shoes are lifesaving. Wearing heels down an emergency slide will puncture it, and being barefoot at the bottom in a plane crash is non-ideal - can't run in a debris field barefoot. I want to get away from a downed aircraft as quickly as possible. That starts with shoes.

I would never travel in a dress or shorts…airport and airplane seats are gross to me and I would never want any of my skin to touch the seats. I only wear long pants and long sleeve shirts. No Sandals, either….

Bonjour. I am French and an older lady. I travelled all through Asia, Africa, Europe and I disagree with you on what to wear When I travel I like to mix with locals so I never wear tight dresses. I respect the local ladies and like to “mix”. I wear long, cheap Indian colorful skirts which I mix with colorful tunics and a belt where I can hang mosquitoes repellent, water bottles, lip balm , etc. In the plane I usually wear a dress with full skirt (😊much more practical to go to the bathrooms anywhere. I wear sandals, or dark tennis. White will give you up as a tourist. Always take a black or neutral colors dress and a colorful scarf to Europe.

My take is she wants to continue to look stylish, even as she ages. I feel the same way, and jeans don’t scream desperation. Having an elegant classy wardrobe with some trends thrown in keeps things fresh! Everyone wears jeans..there’s no issue here.
