Hi Alyssa, I know it might sound unprobable since you target female audience but I'm a guy and I like to watch your videos. Having enough of '10 items you need to have in your closet' or 'items you need to get rid of in 2023 immediately' videos it is a relief to hear from you. Basically all you say can be applied both to female and male fashion since you talk more of philosophy of style. Content about findng your three words was especially insightful and 'shop your closet' series eye opening. And you have a soothing voice and attitude, listening to you always brings good mood and vibes.

I'd only add one other point: kindness to yourself however you present on any day. Sometimes the closet feels like a foe because we're hard on ourselves, but being kind enough to love ourselves in any moment and let that into our closet so we love our outfits or our bodies on those not 10/10 days helps so much

I find the older I get, the less I care about what others think about the way I dress and look. I don’t mean that in a negative way, but if I feel good, yet it doesn’t quite fit the fashion of the moment… I really just don’t care because I like and most importantly I’m comfortable and that is so important to me - thanks for another great videos :)

I just did some shopping for the first time in a while. I finally got some new bras since my old ones were completely shot. I found a boutique bra shop about 2 hours away from me, so I had a self-care day and went and got fitted. All of my clothes feel brand new now that I’m finally wearing bras that fit and don’t have busted elastic sticking out. It’s amazing what great undergarments can do. Don’t need a ton of them, but some good ones will go a long way!

We all want to look and feel amazing. Here is my top tip. The next time you feel the urge to go out clothes shopping, and you know you don't really need any more clothes, stay in and pamper yourself instead. Do some or all of the following'................... Put on some relaxing music, light some candles, take a long leisurely bath or shower, wash your hair and take the time to style it, put on some make-up, a spritz of perfume, do your nails, then pick an outfit from your wardrobe that you love and put it on. I guarantee you will look and most importantly feel a million dollars. It is that feeling that we are actually after. You won't need to spend any money to get this amazing feeling as you likely already have the products needed, but may have in the past, lacked the time to put them to good use. Make the time. It is cheaper than buying new clothes and likely less time and more pleasureable than trawling around the shops. I am mid 50's and a couple of years ago I remembered how good it used to feel in my 20's getting ready for a night out. I didn't have many clothes, but I had the time on a Saturday late afternoon to get ready, have a bath, do my hair and make-up etc. I probably only had 2 going out outfits, as did my friends, but always felt amazing. For me, regularly spending time on the whole ritual of grooming and getting dressed properly is where its at.

My biggest struggle is to look good just for myself. I’ve been working from home for almost a decade and leggings/ sweatpants became my second skin. But even when I worked in the office, the minute I got home my makeup, my bra, nice shoes…gone! I totally get the “ look better feel better” principle but yet all my nice pieces sit in the closet awaiting to be seen by others. I agree ball gown on Tuesday sounds bit much. Monday then? 🤔

This year I decided to create a capsule for each of the four seasons, with 25 to 30 pieces. Some of the pieces I reuse for each season, (like my jeans and a couple of my sweaters). I am enjoying the creativity that I find with limiting my options and keeping them within a color palette where most things go together.

I will occasionally hit a garage sale. Once in a while ill have great luck. Friday, I found 2 blouses, for 2 dollars each. One was a silk blouse from chicos, and the other a Ralph Lauren silk animal print blouse. Perfect condition. No hanging threads. No stains. Never pass up a Ralph Lauren's.

Yes , I have always said styling my outfits is my creative outlet. I am not a minimalist and never will be, but I am definitely buying less with redoing my closet due to weight loss. My father passed when I was just 13 and his biggest legacy was impressing upon me the concept of being my own best friend. My friend calls it my safety net! Great Video!

I remember you doing a "no denim" challenge some years ago. And, I agree about putting some sort of parameters/boundaries/constraints on our wardrobes to help stimulate creativity. I find that with seasonal changes, I tend to forget how I managed to put together creative fun outfits the last time I was dressing for cold weather/warm weather, etc. So, it's a good idea to muse about how many ways can I wear these three sweaters? To get the most out of what I have.

Excellent video! I think about the late Little Edie Beale as the originator of working with what you got to make fashion, or “costumes” as she called them. Another idea for updating a wardrobe at little cost is upcycling existing items that you don’t wear anymore. If you can sew, or someone in your life can sew, this can extends the life of the garment and keep it out of the landfill longer.

Oh yes, paralyzed by analysis. I am there. I’ve been thinking a lot about creativity, and I wonder if another good word to pair with it is curiosity. That curiosity that we have as children. To cultivate it and keep it in our lives. Also, just loving your pearl and gold earrings from MV (I think)… so pretty on you.

I need to force myself to be creative, otherwise, I’ll go for convenient and boring. Part of this stems from the fact that my style is somewhat minimalist (not in the avant-garde way), and I can be a lazy dresser, particularly when I’m just running errands in the neighborhood. I have to add that the red shirt looks fantastic on you.😊

As a minimalist, I am inspired by the idea that, apparently when Coco Chanel died, there were only 3 outfits in her wardrobe. In my mind I can see three Chanel suits hanging there, each with a co-ordinating under blouse or thin sweater. Chanel was also a minimalist - after all she came up with the Little Black Dress. Her three outfits could be a weeks worth of clothes if you wore the blouse and sweater twice in a week, or handwashed them after each wear. Whilst 3 outfits for a week is extreme, I think 7 is plenty. I think a great challenge for everyone would be to create 7 everday outfits for the season ahead. I started to do it this winter, but have found i actually only need 4-5 outfits as some can be worn twice eg a sweater and jeans. The secret is I also have 7 long sleeve t-shirts I wear under them , which I put on clean on every day. A couple of my outfits are easy to dress up with accessories and wear out to dinner with my husband, I also have a separate outfit for gardening/housework, and a party dress for Xmas. I don't need more than that.

Hi Alyssa! I’ve just your last podcast on Sustain This and I’d like to comment something about it. I’d love to know from you guys, what do you think of the “cons” of buying second hand. I had some really bad experiences that I think people doesn’t even imagine that those things happens. 😢 for example: I bought a vintage chanel and the authenticity card came from a YSL instead of the Chanel’s ones and it made me sell back to the previous second hand shop bc I couldn’t be able to sell to anyone else without the authenticity card. Another terrible experience I had when I bought a 7k jewelry and didn’t receive!!! I had to prosecute the store and I got me almost a year to receive it back. Another one when I sold 2 Diors to a luxury reseller and didn’t receive the money, also had to prosecute them to receive moths later. I bought a 2k vintage watch from a swiss well made brand and inside of the watch (the caliber) was fake, was really bad quality. The last one was with Tamara (influencer from Milan) that had all her jewelry and purses (chanel, hermes) robbed and a couple of days before, she found lots of them to sell on these most famous luxury second hand shops that we all know. 😢 all these experiences made me never ever deal with second hand items anymore. Even a cheap ones. So, I’d love to know if you guys already had a bad experience and what do you think of it. ❤
