One handed backhands lock the wrist, so the power mostly comes from the legs and rotation. The coiling and unloading into the ball does not affect the wrist nearly as much as in the forehand, which demands high lag on the wrist to generate tons of racquet acceleration for that desired power. And that's where Thiem's struggles lie. He still doesn't have confidence in his forehand which is huge for his game.

@@samy29987 if you put top spin on the one hander that will also involve wrist motion for the whiper. Granted, there is no wrist lag given that the motion takes place from the reverse point (i.e, locked wrist instead of lag).

Hmm? What do you mean? Alcaraz, Sinner, Kyrgios are still playing well. Kyrgios reached the final of Wimbledon this year, you know. Even if he had lost to Nadal had Nadal been fit to play, Kyrgios reaching the semis is far better performance from him than before. And, Kyrgios also beat Medvedev this USO, didnt he? He also beat Medvedev in an earlier tourney, iirc. Sinner took 2 sets from Djokovic in Wimby. Any other player would have lost that day to Sinner, not to mention that fantastic point from Sinner for which he had to stretch to the max. Musetti and Alcaraz have been good this year too. How can you say that the male tour has been "catastrophic" after seeing such good performances of late? Sure, they don't play like the Big 3 have been for so many years, but, to say that it's been catastrophic is to insult their hard work and their performances. It feels insulting to tennis. In the very least, the level of male tennis since covid has been decent, far from bad. Finally someone other than the big 3 and medvedev have a chance at a GS. (Also, in case you haven't seen it, the Rublev - Shapovalov match is far better than the results show. Both of them have improved their level since 2021.)

Thiem is a massive topspin hitter

I guess that's the problem with the overhead view. This poor guy doesn't realize how much top spin thiem is hitting the ball with. He just sees the depth and the pace and assumes it must be flat, because how else could someone generate that kind of pace without it being flat? It's inhuman, what Thiem was producing in his prime.

@@McGradey Thiem flattens out his shots a lot as well when he really goes for it. That's the dangerous thing about (prime) Thiem: massive topspin and massive bazookas.

Thiem hits with more rpm and pace than Nadal.

Looks like this useless Thiem fangirl needs some education. Andy Murray was the biggest challenger to the Big Three in Slams and everything else. There was a Big Four for a reason you know. Thief and Medvedump are just benefiting off of regular top players getting injured, COVID restrictions, and the Big Three being old. Murray actually had to fight for titles with Fed, Rafa, and Djoker in their primes.

Andy Murray had to deal with the prime Big Three. Thiem and Medvedev are dealing with the battered remains of those legends as well as a COVID restricted era on the tour

@@lancemasters7800 Yeah but Murray can't be a challenge to Nadal and Djokovic anymore, his body is too broken. Same thing with Federer. Thiem still has a chance if he gets back in good form.

@@apathak34 The problem is that Thiem’s style is too taxing on his body. Playing like that will get himself injured again. Sure, Murray can’t challenge the Big Three that much anymore, but he’s closer to regaining his old form. And he has the ability to play all court tennis which is something Thiem lacks.
