Hi guys and thanks for stopping by! My name is Melissa and I have been a police officer for just about 14 years now! I am currently a lieutenant in a large metropolitan police department and I created this video to assist you wonderful aspiring police officers! In this video, I explain my personal tips for you if you are interested in becoming a police officer. **These tips are just my personal opinions. They may not be the same as your opinions! Also, a little tip for anyone whose prepping for oral boards. If you have some of these skills she mentions, talk about it when introducing yourself or saying your strengths in the interview. 😊👌🏼

if i write a lot of tickets,make a lot of arrests,work odd hours,work holidays and weekends,attend court and do a lot of off-duty work will i make the big bucks?

Thanks for the tips! I just finished the application process for my local department. BLET starts in January…what would you recommend getting for BLET? Such as specific kinds of clothes and whatnot?

How skilled are you in hand to hand combat? Is it recommended to have a background in combatives or martial arts prior to enlisting?

I am not skilled in hand to hand combat. They will teach you defensive tactics in the academy. But any kind of martial arts would be an excellent idea! They used to offer us ground fighting refresher and practice with some of our academy staff but that’s not running right now due to covid.
