5 TIPS to SAVE MONEY on Scenery for your Models

Hello friends and modelers! I’ve been working on free-mo module and turning it into a diorama of sorts. Along the way I’ve picked up a couple of tips that saved me money on scenery! And I want to share them with you! These tips allow you to have a completely realistic diorama for cheap, without skimping on quality!
So question for the group - What do you do to save money on scenery? Tell the group!

A great product for make field grass is a product call pita.

Ok one more then I'll be quiet haha...sticks and twigs out of your yard....dry them in an oven or let them sit around for 6 months. Then break them up and they can be used as fallen trees, dead trees and broken off stumps. Some root structures from weeds you pull out of your garden can be washed, dried and used to simulate whole root structures of toppled trees. Just have to find the right weed!

I like doing this one too!!! I use them for log loads too!

Can't say enough about real leaves as ho scale leaves as ground cover. I dry them out. Chop them up in a blender and then very finely chop them even more in a cheap salvation army electric coffee grinder. I apply them just like any commercial ground cover with wet water and then 50/50 white glue -water . Nothing looks more like fallen leaves than ....leaves!

Nice tips! +1 on the grout. I use the same stuff and multiple colors in coordination with weathering chalk. I seal it with an Elmers/water mix.

Awesome. Now weather the centerbeam and GE. I like the paint brush reeds and your rocks are spot on. I usually use diced basil or chopped up cilantro for leaves for trees. After the fuzzy stuff.

Cilantro! The devil's weed! Do you dry it?
