What UK ride would you love to see get replaced this year? 🎢

The Big One isn't going anywhere. They have replaced parts of the track over the past three off-seasons and are carrying out the longest section of track replacement work yet right at the moment. They wouldn't bother with such investment if they thought the ride was ready for the scrap heap and deconstructing and then building a new ride that is of a similar scale would be an insane challenge in that crowded mess of a park. And let's be honest a B&M hyper coaster would be way out of their budget. Likewise as much as many fans would love for Rita to be replaced immediately I think Alton Towers will probably just wait until the ride damages itself beyond repair and becomes unsupported by Intamin or snaps a cable and injures a guest before axing it. And even then I think they would just leave the ride SBNO or remove it rather than replace it with anything straight away. They have other investments that are clearly higher priorities right now (Nemesis retrack, Duel refurb, Project Horizon for 2025-26(?), sorting out the flat ride situation) before I think they would look to add a new coaster experience that would be perceived as similar (at least by the general public) to an existing ride. It still draws a crowd (mostly due to the poor capacity) but Alton Towers doesn't care because guests standing a queue means that they do not need to have as many attractions elsewhere to entertain those guests. Having said that it might not be that long before the Intamin accelerator model reaches the end of its shelf life mechanically. One of them has been removed, one has been relocated (though still not open because of parts supply issues), another has been relocated but retrofitted with LSMs by Zamperla (although still not open), Accelerator at Knotts was SBNO for most of the 2022 season even after a full repaint (also because of a parts supply issue). And of course Top Thrill Dragster is having it's 'reimagination' which is supposedly not being carried out by Intamin (possibly Zamperla) so in a way that ride could be considered to have been removed already as well. Maybe Alton Towers could do the Zamperla LSM refit if it makes sense financially although personally I cannot see it happening as the return on investment would not be great (ok you could say the same about the Nemesis retrack but then that ride has much more 'iconic' marketing potential and it probably would be very difficult to get planning permission for a major new coaster on the Nemesis site anyway.

I would also love to see a complete re-vamping of Lighwater Valleys Ultimate. A historically troubled coaster that had so much potential. Just a pity it was so much like stepping out of a blender when you got off, even after they got rid of the over the shoulder restraints.

S&S Sansei should refurbish the big one. They technically own the arrow track style.

Really interesting points! I did a little gasp when you mentioned the Big One as it's just so iconic. Plus I lived in Blackpool during it's construction so it does hold a lot of nostalgia for me. I'd prefer to see Ice Blast go first if I'm honest, or Infusion if we're talking strictly coasters. The rest I'd agree with though.

No, Rita has never been a top tier and innovative coaster.

To be honest I kind of agree with you about the big one. It's iconic however the actual coaster is not that great apart from the drop. However instead of a b&m hyper I'd rather have a mack. Imagine something like dc rivals in BPB, it would really get them back on the map and help them compete with exodus.

The big one isnt even a bad ride, the retracks going on make it extremely smooth.

Drayton will 100% not get an RMC, I’m sure of it. I mean, they’re specifically aiming foe a family audience so it wouldn’t make sense for them to build a coaster from a company who has built some of the most intense and notorious coasters of recent years. However, they could definitely convert something at Pleasure Beach with all of those wooden coasters knocking about.

Let's face it, none of these are going anywhere in 2023. And I can't see many of them going anywhere in the near future (Big One is too iconic and they've spent money on track replacements, Jormangandr has been refurbed / rebranded, Rita still has plenty of ridership, and Thorpe Park are too focused on their new project to replace another coaster). One ride I can really see on the chopping block in the near future is Shockwave at Drayton Manor though. It's very rough, and has to be near the end of its shelf-life (based on other similarly aged B&Ms having full track replacements). It needs something, and I'd bet the Looping Group would rather build something new than completely restore it as stand-ups aren't really in fashion anymore. So this is the one ride that I think should be replaced - hopefully they can replace with another thrill coaster and not go full family-park on us!

I'd not get rid of The Big One, I'd get rid of Steeplechase and Infusion

I reckon the big one will be the only arrow hyper left one day. They won't replace it as it's a massive icon (haha funny) to Blackpool and their spending so much money on retracking it

I think if blackpool thinks about replacing the big one, they should literally go for the British height title as Thorpe Park is about to steal it away!

Instead of replacing worn out sections of The Big One, BPB should just re-track the whole thing as they did at Kennywood. Or take a leaf from Alton and what they're doing with Nemesis.

I'd like to see Infusion go, it's like being in a boxing ring, would be a perfect spot for a gyro swing ride.

The problem with your mentioning of a multi launch at Towers. A multi launch of that type couldn't happen as things stand. LSMs require a LOT of power. More than Towers gets off the power grid. A big upgrade within the park would be needed before a multi launch can even be considered.

The big one needs a complete refurbishment with a new track style with better and more modern profiling. It also needs new trains in which you don’t have to fear your neck being broken off on the first drop. It’s way too jolty. I have nostalgia for it but it’s not the ride it once was.

I thought that something like Symbolica would be a good replacement for The Walking Dead before you said it, so I definitely agree with you there, and I've also wondered what Blackpool would be like with a B&M Hyper, not that I think Pepsi Max would or should be replaced...

It’s time for Rita to go it’s really nothing special. The UK theme park industry really needs a big boost as I think it’s been really lacking in the past 5-10 years. It’s a shame the potential future London resort has ran into so many issues.

The Big One is Iconic and the BLACKPOOL PLEASURE BEACH have been working on it and retracting the roller coaster you can see the difference tract colouring and it this one of the beats in the uk

While I can't be fully opinionated on the original version of X: No Way Out, I still think that The Walking Dead Ride is a thousand times better than the bland second incarnation of X. And besides, I think they added more theming to the roller coaster section of The Walking Dead Ride, as I found there to be a lot more going on in there than the new incarnation of Ghost Train, it was almost as if all the scary things happening around people was added to The Walking Dead Ride instead of Ghost Train by mistake. XD Plus, I was surprised by the fact that I encountered survivors at the end of the ride instead of the usual walkers.

Only reason(s) why the Big One should be replaced: It doesn't operate when it's windy. It's just a huge piece of really expensive scaffolding on most days. If you see it moving, with people on it, GET IN THAT RIDE QUEUE, PRONTO! You never know when it'll be operating again!!! Other than that, it's a really good ride, especially with the retracked bits...

Rattlesnake I still think is very good and it is a wild mouse do you should expect a bit of jolt. There are also about 30 signs that say this ride has a lot of Jult. The ride is one of my favourites at chessington and a must ride if I go. So I think more or less we should be talking about vampire at chessington here. Also when we talk about replacements we have got to think what the uk theme parks can afford like Drayton manor probably could not afford a high end rmc or Blackpool probably couldn’t afford a b&m hyper.

Yea: the last Walking Dead season ended late last year, but still getting more spin-offs so tech not finished in general terms lol Sure you know about these spin-offs. Also you said about: Derren Brown's Ghost Train for you being more of a VR experience-well come on it is a Dark Ride your in the dark and it moves and sends you through a story lol But yeah as for Chessington, been saying for years they should have 2 Dark Rides. I remember hearing years ago there was concept art done for a Danger Mouse-Dark Ride with concept art not released but done in 1986.

The big ones definitely going to need a replacement, besides the obvious reasons once the Mack coaster opens at Thope it's no longer going to have its title

I feel that instead of a b&m hyper do up on the big one. A morgan rides upgrade would work far better, just like what they did with steel phantom!

I would love to see thorpe park set aside a little of it's budget for exodus and buy new trains for collosus. I would love that ride so much if it wasn't so painful. It's a real headbanger. The cars on flamingo lands 'sik' have solved this problem. Please thorpe park. Get new trains. Your guests will thank you.

You'll never hear me complain about more dark rides. I'd absolutely love a new scary dark ride... one that actually doesn't riff on Disney's Haunted Mansion. I don't want guns and point tallies either, that just detracts from the storyline. Give me a Bioshock-style abandoned steampunk metropolis full of clockwork nightmares or something. Try out a NEW theme and don't rehash what other parks have done.

I think that blackpool pleasure beach should remove the big one and replace it with something more relevant like a b&m hypercoaster but still have it themed to big one so it isn’t forgotten forever.
