The main good advantage with Thea is actually her better bulk. Her strength isn't that much better but her hp and defense make Thea way more reliable not only in combat but also carrying out rescue missions or letting her fly somewhere and not die. She's not a tank but Shanna is soooo delicate.

Lot's reputation is brought down by association with Ward. He's got decent speed and defence growths and bases for a fighter and is really dependable in the early game against all the lance wielding units. Supporting him with Dieck is the thinking man's strat

I can't believe people avoided Echidna at a point in time. She's absolutely great.

1. Igrene. Yep, if you train and promote Wolf/Dorothy you'll see that they barely catch up to Igrene stats even if you give them 30 levels (20+10). So for future playthroughs, I'm definitely using Igrene.

I think the last time Echidna was considered underrated was about 2012.

I came here expecting Mangs to talk about Fir for about 2 hours straight, and I've been pleasantly surprised.

I’m glad you put Garret on this list, he’s a dude that’s always been weird to me. He’s definitely the most underrated FE6 unit, everytime I think about him I wonder what the thought process was in including him... I think the reason why has to do with him being introduced in the same chapter as the best version of Perceval, the latter overwhelmingly outshining the former. I mean, who’s gonna look at Perceval and Garret and think Garret is the more attractive unit out of the two? All in all, I feel Garret is what happens when you introduce two or more units in the same/next to the same chapter who’s power level drastically differs from eachother.

One main point in Douglas's favour is the fact that if you're dead set on having a General, you're only other options are Bors, Barthe and Wendy, all of whom you have to get through the sea of axes known as the Western Isles, regardless of their stats and growths. Like Mangs said, sometimes if the games gives you a decent unit for free, you just gotta take it.

I got Douglas in the last round of a FE6 Ironman Draft on hard mode and ended up losing a ton of units including my last healer in 16x. I only ended up making it past the next few chapters because I hid behind Douglas and slowly turtled my way through each chapter. That dude took 0 damage from the massive amount of nomad reinforcements in Sacae and I just chilled until they all broke their short bows.

Binding Blade will never get old. It's a game that still gives me difficulty to this day and you made pretty good arguments. Enemies actually have stats and you face Wyvern riders as early as chapter 7. Bows are more accurate than Hand Axes and free Berserkers are nice. I remember disliking Binding Blade because of the general difficulty at first but I've come to appreciate the characters and game over time.

Thea is actually my FE6 waifu, I always use her because damn she cute. Glad she is finally getting some recognition.

Igrene and Douglas have always been pretty valuable to me. I also think Thea's value jumps up a lot if you play on Hard Mode, but on Normal Mode falls a bit short. Guess this means I ought to give Garret and Echidna a try as well on my next playthrough. I also quite like Raigh, but was surprised to find out he is ranked rather low on a lot of tier lists. I always thought he was considered pretty good, but guess not? I guess he joins a bit late and then still needs some investment to become better. This was a fun video. Good stuff, Mangs!

I always thought Hugh was pretty underrated. His bases aren't crazy or anything but he can fight well enough and he's a nice backup mage if your Lilina or Lugh gets stat screwed. Just as long as you have the gold of course

I think the same about Igrene could be said to Klein.

I dunno if he’s really considered an underrated character, but I’ll throw some love towards Dieck. I feel like he’s a great “set it and forget it” unit. Just field him without much thought and he’ll typically do whatever you need him to pretty effectively.

Echidna was awesome and great I didn’t care what people said she’s great and her original sprite was unique too (Also project embers sprite animation was great!)

Would like to add bartre. He can use bows at base and have ok bases, great unit to kill wyverns. Sue is also an surprisingly good unit. Having a mount and uses a bows, perfect to chase wyverns. Sure she isnt as good a shin, but having a second nomad trooper is not bad.on the same note, dayan is good for the murdock chapter.

I think the problem with Echidna is her horrible first impression. She starts with a Steel Axe that completely murders her AS, and many blind players will probably watch her get gutted by those reinforcements that spawn with her, causing a reset. Only character with a worse first impression is Cecilia, and I doubt any unit will ever take that title from her in the series.

to be fair i find a lot of the pre-promotes in this game are under rated.

And, don't forget about my Little Cyan Sword Kitten! She's an undeservedly disparaged darling daredevil who redresses her dainty and delicate debility by being deftly dexterous and deadly dangerous with a Wo Dao.

Shanna has bad bases when you get her. Thea also has bad bases when you get her, but joins in a much easier part of the game, so shes just less of a hassle to train

Some of my characters I used are easily no contests, Milady/Melady, etc. but I actually didn't use Perci or Marcus Just because I figured, sense I played FE7 and Marcus was a beast, I already know those two will always be one. so I put them on a Pedestal and kept them on guard duty to anyone who needed it until everyone could semi defend themselves. my Top 5 Units; and not in order: "see that unit over there? I don't want to anymore" (this was my first ever play through and I've yet to get a 2nd in) Gwyndolyn (surprising no one...or alot I guess) Geese Dorothy Zeiss and Milady/Melady best for last My top 5 memers: Wolt Cath (yes, Cath) Raigh Sue Trec My Top 5 units I felt 50/50 on that showed me up for some reason or another Sue Elen Saul Noah Garret (But lets be real, being that I love Berserkers and got introduced to how randomly okay Dozla was in FE8, I gotta respect the class that doesn't hit twice, but makes sure you felt that sting once they hit you good and hard once)

While Lot is REALLY bad, I will defend him for DESTROYING the cavs on chapter 4 hard mode. But yeah in my hard mode playthrough, and normal mode too, igrene, echidna garret? These three were the wyvern killers for me (plus rutger and lilina, but thats my bias)

Garrett is one of those units that I always wanted to give a try, but never got around to doing so.

Honestly, Echidna is defintely a nice unit to have but I always have that feeling that Dieck, or Ogier (if trained of course) really outshine her, they may not be great as her with axes, but they are just much better, first one is really bulky, second one is fast and got luck (and Echidna kinda lacks luck) I don't really know what people think of Ogier, but I have a feeling this lil boy si quite underrated too !

The only thing i would change would be to put klein instead of igrene. He joins earlier, with a better bow rank and he gets hard mode bonuses

Shanna can dodge tank really well depending on her level early game and could pretty much multitask around the map given that she's leveled completely well around 15 - 20 with elysian whip.

People dont realizr that the whole point of an early promoted Shanna is to have a unit that allows you to progress fast through the game in case you are going for an ltc run. And if you are playing casually, Shanna is even better bcs she bevomes THE BEST support unit in the game, rescue and fly utility for the entire game, and the point of early promoting Shanna is so that you have a 68 average avoid unit that doesnt kill bandits (like rutger) and that doesnt die against them. She is a good combat unit because she doesnt kill enemies (hope that makes sense), At that point in the game you are still training up late game units like Cavallers, Bow users, etc and they are still very vulnerable to an easy death, a level 10 shanna can only realistically be killed by a ballista. TLDR: Shanna's combat is not and will never be better than Thea at killing stuff, but Thea is miles away in utility compared to her sister, wich is far more valuable than one-rounding mercenaries in chapter 14 onwards Edit: yes, Sacae is cancer, but i just love archers

I use Echidna because Hero is my favourite class. I use Garret because he's my favourite unit in the series as a character on top of being a pretty good unit.

I love how Mangs spends an incredible amount of time prefacing his opinions with how they are about underrated units, not necessarily bad ones and then just out of nowhere comes with the hottest take that Shanna's combat sucks so much and you should bench her in favour of her underleveled sister xD. But other than that, hell yeah. More Echidna love is always good in my books

I would add something to the shanna and thea thing You get an elysian whip in chap 8, 12 and 11/10 if you keep thea's squad alive Therefore you can promo shanna, thea and miledy, so why not use both pegasus sisters?

Garret i agree with since i actually used him in a run and while he wasn't as good as a trained gonzales, he could still support gonzales so i had like, two berserkers, that was fun.

0:17 minor correction, radiant dawn actually doesn’t have the biggest cast in the series. It’s actually FE12 with over 80(I forgot the exact amount though I know it’s above 80) characters through free DLC.

Igrene ye, she's underrated I guess, Mulagir pushes her speed to 20 that should double most wyvern knights and wyvern lords at base, if she doesn't double she chuncks out huge health bars and chip damage in FE 6 which helps in FE 6, besides training most bow units are hard. I guess if nothing else works brave bow is incredible damage off her decent base strength. Garet idk man, if you are going Illia training Gonzales isn't that hard on those pegasus knight reinforcements in ch 17 especially if you are not going fast and ironically Geese and Gonzales have B and C rank, which is similar or better, Gonzales gets two shots at well one shotting while Garret gets one. Garet isn't bad but it isn't that hard to train Gonzales or maybe Geese. Thea ye she's well underrated and I kinda get why people don't prefer using her, but Shanna easily peaks at the western isles, early promoted Shanna with a robe does wonders in those maps, she's like a flying marcus without axes, nice chip damage, reliably dodges most enemies in ch 9 to 11, probably does ok upto 14, which is like well half the game and probably the more harder part, onward to Thea, she'll probably be better on the long term, but on practise I kinda rarely use her, but I guess you can always give her two levels she reaches level 10 and you can promote her and solve her bad lance rank, most people go through Echidna's route so you could use the arena to reach well C rank lances if you are willing to risk it and then push her to level 20 and have a pretty good flyer which is better than 90% of the cast. Normal mode thea isn't that better than Shanna tho if you are considering it for well casuals. Echidna is amazing at base but there are a few things that go against her in hard mode, her luck is absolutely bad you can solve this through well supports but I guess that the only unit you are likely to support her with is dancing off other units, this is well important because low percentage crits will likely kill her but luckily a few statboosters will kinda patch her up , her 13 str and 18 speed should carry her upto ch 20 or 20x if you go to the Illia route. In Sacae route most units don't fare well against the nomads but I guess Echidna can lure a few wyverns somewhat safely. Her con while not as bad as Isadora does hold her back, but luckily very few units need a body ring so Echidna could use one to increase her A.S. In hard mode ch 21, she's stuck at this weird spot where she can't dish out a lot of damage or take out a lot of damage and this is where her low or I guess decent strength starts to hurt her and with 8 def or maybe 10 to 11 she probably can't take more than two to three hits. On normal mode tho, Echidna's absolutely amazing and she'll be fine throughout the game. Douglas yep he can be a decent wall in either Illia or Sacae, tho he obviously performs better in Illia, reaching 20 def or close to 20 def is hard for most units however there are a few units who come close to that and they are Miledy and Zeiss, With some dracoshields and a delphi shield they will perform Douglas's role for the most part, tho having an other tank never hurts, probably don't bring him to 21 if you don't have S rank axes and you'll be fine. His accuracy really hurts him a lot. YOU ARE FULL OF YOLK MANGS! Had to do that, that was funny.

I still find hilarious how Douglas has just enough defense to eat the otherwise annoying attacks of the Nomads like they are nothing.

Yay living, learning, and reconsidering opinions! Mandatory Shining Force-rambling: 54 characters is a bit more than the 20-30-something of Shining Force 1 or 2. (I think Shining Force 3 clocked in at some 60-odd characters, though, and plenty of units you can capture to add to your party.)

Definitely agree with Igrene and Echidna(used them both in my first completed playthrough). I personally would add Cecilia to the list. Cecilia is a decent mounted healer with little investment. I think people underrate her because she joins on the desert chapter and her movement is painful there. Use her on other chapters and she's a good frontline healer with enough bulk to tank a hit or 2(but thats about it haha)

Tate usefull from the moment you obtain her till the end of the game thany she is a ferry unit who need a huge favoritism if want her Being able to fight and she become a meh fightning unit after the western isles Tate can be both without a huge amount of favoritism and she is the secound best fightning flying units of the game

Admittedly i benched Garret, Douglas and Echidna. But Thea and Igrene i found to be pretty good.

Surprised Igrene was underrated at all, she joins with decent bases and, as you said, wyvern knights are everywhere, often find her to be useful enough to deploy. Just wish she started with an A in bows like Klein. Also agree on Garrett; I trained up Gonzales many playthroughs and he always steamrolls when given investment...but Garrett has the same skillset and requires no investment. Sure, his stats are not as good, but he is free...and actually has decent skill. Thea is a very decent unit on hard mode...but is pretty lacking in normal mode, sadly. Echidna is very solid, although I think both she and Bartre are underrated...but I will admit to never using DOuglas much at all, I will have to next time I decide to dust off FE6 for a playthrough. You are wrong about Shanna's early game offense though, her offense is actually fine early game and can carry during Western Isles...although she drops off a cliff after.

Garret is a better tank unit than the tank units in FE6.

tbh i was skids underwhelmed by Echdna when i got to playing the A route in FE6. when i first played FE6 the community was already at the point fo considering her great but honestly? i feel like she doesn't hold up for very long at all. like she's already having issues right after leaving the western isles. imma just gonna take a moment to simp for my boi Klein, who undeservedly gets grouped into being a no investment pre-promote when he joins in the sweet spot that's pretty early for a promoted unit, but is also around where some of your units will be promoting. it means he's great at base but also doesn't suffer form shit exp gain for all too long. The only thing he really ends to remain competitive is spd, (+ a little str here and there) and at a 45% growth (pretty damn good for FE6 standards) with a level or two every now and then he can keep his spd pretty relevant, and the fast classes ain't a big deal either because they're fliers/frail enough to get oneshot with a good bow. Couple that with Snipers actually being useful in FE6 (thanks to a player phase focus, the abundance of fliers and chip damage being basically required for all but the very best of units) to the point where i think it's reasonable to deploy both Klein & Igrene in some maps. I don't think Igrene instantly usurps Klein as much as people seem to think.

i disagre with thea,shanna is WAY better than thea for a looong time, you can prepromote shanna since chapter 8 or later, and she can double anything, then when u can buy killer lances she become even better thea struggles to lvl up in axe land and the nexts chapters so her contributions compared with thea is abysmal, then u got milady and thea is complete shadow by her xD (She still a good unit but u have to give her a lot of babysitting in axeland and try to reach C in lances)

As someone who played Fire Emblem (shortly) before it got a western release, what little community there was at the time had a very "Prepromote = Bad" mindset, unless they were absurdly OP when they joined (Pent in FE7, Percival, etc.), so a unit like Echidna who is actually not bad, but has meh growths and is getting weighed down by axes made most people bench her without even trying. This is back when Marcus was considered so bad that people would rank Wendy above him, so that says a lot about how terrible people back then were at the game, and also probably why they thought FE6 hard mode and Thracia were the hardest things ever (which admittedly they are on the tougher end, but not really that bad) it was because people refused to use pre-promotes because they would "Steal EXP" from the "Good characters". I learned basically how BS the whole mindset was when I did a "pre-promote only" run thinking it would be more challenging, but turned out to be easier (Admittedly it was FE7 though). In regards to this video... 1 - I have always liked Thea more than Shanna. 2 - I have never had good results with Garret, so I'll disagree on that one. Otherwise the other 4 I'll agree on.

This video made me want to revisit FE6 since you had me realize that FE6 is more player phase focused and shouldn't compare to FE7/8 which is more cutting down huge waves of enemies on enemy phase. I hope to see some units in a new light as well 👍
