I know the stress of thinking about Parris Island, Marine Boot Camp, the Marine Drill Instructor, and becoming a Marine can be a lot. The Marine Corps is known for being the best, but I think most people know about how tough the Marine Drill Instructors are. But I can at least help you out by giving you ways on how to Impress Marine Drill Instructors. We had ONE recruit in my platoon (MCRD SD 1966) who had all five down as I think back. His Dad was also a SgtMaj in the Corps. He was Platoon Guide. Great guy and leader, sadly KIA while serving as a a Corporal in the Nam. Being prepared certainly helps, those Drill Instructors don’t miss much, and the slightest error puts the screw ups,and usually the whole platoon, in the sand pit. At least these days with all the videos out there, recruits should have a pretty good idea of what they are getting themselves into. Semper Fi from an old Marine.

When I joined I was older and I had already experienced shit out in the streets so during boot camp I just stayed in the shadows and without out knowing I did everything you mentioned and like you said the Drill Instructors never fucked with me, the only time I got IT’ed was when the whole platoon got IT’ed. During MCT (yes not SOI 🖕🏼) they made me a squad leader by the 2nd week and never lost my position. During my MOS (1371 Combat Engineer) school I also became the guide a couple of weeks in and never lost the position. Went to Iraq twice in 05 and 07 oh and I would like to throw in that I got attached to 2nd and 3rd Recon during my deployments. I made Sgt within 3 years. Not bad for a Vato from SouthWest of Houston... Oooorah Devil Dogs

I couldn’t because at the time we were spit shining boots and my heavy saw my boots and said good “you” you will be doing our boots since you want to shine better than us 😂😂😂 I’m like aye aye sir...made my life a living hell but at the end they commended me on my appearance and how well I took the time to square away others. We won initial and final drill because of me and a few others. Keeping a low profile was probably the worst advice I would give anyone

I'm a veteran of another branch, but I can confirm that EVERYTHING this young man says is straight up - and will apply, in varying degrees, to every branch of the service - more so with the Corps, Coast Guard, and Army. Not so much yelling in the Air Force or Navy... But the rest holds true. So aspiring Marines, Soldiers, Coast Guardsman, Sailors, and Airmen... PAY ATTENTION !

When I enlisted in 1969 we had zero exposure to the required 'knowledge' before arriving at the receiving barracks at MCRD-SD. That would have been great, but that's just the way it was. There was no fitness program offered to us beforehand either. Being an athlete I was always in good shape anyway, but I spent lots of time in my basement running in place and doing calisthenics. It was all a total shock once we got off the jet at the airport in San Diego.

I like this Marine right here. Good tips for future recruits. My recruiter gave me this exact same advice. Basically comes down to one thing, stay motivated, do more, not less. But some of these kids heading to boot camp aren't sure what that means. good stuff Marine!

My morning workouts; going in this fall. 20 pushups, 10 pull-ups, 40 sit-ups, and a 2 mile run in at least 16 minutes. After, 20 pushups, 15 pull-ups, 20 sit-ups. Work on 200 pushups a day. I focus on 20 in the morning and 20 in the evening. Pull-ups, whatever you kind find in school, run to the gym for lunch or something. 🤙🏼

I don’t where you went to boot camp but in 1991 they wanted to teach you everything and doing all that shit you suggested was a good way of getting your ass waxed by everyone else in your platoon. I was a SL and made PFC out of PI. Doesn’t matter if you’re first, last you’re going to get fucked up. So just realize this was your decision and do your best. Don’t hide they will find you.

Dude start now...biggest thing is running and cardio...do lots of push-ups, sit-ups, pull ups, running....lift some weights....but definitely start now bro:..the sooner the better. The sooner the better shape you will be in. And more discipline you will have. Don’t wait until your 17 or 18
