We used to paint our roundy round cars with Rustoleum street stock. Cheap, looked great on the track and easy touch up. Even look pretty good from 50 feet.

I've done these techniques before for getting cheap but good paint jobs as well on just basic cars that don't need fancy paint. The only step I add in is throwing an couple of quarts of rustoleum clear over it flat or gloss depending on what your painting helps and on the gloss paint an good wax and buff job helps it last and protect it better as well with any paint job

I use tons of rustoleum on equipment, cars, motorcycles, trucks, etc it is a great product to work with. Go by the product instructions on the can if I remember correctly your safe as long as you do not reduce your paint greater than 10%. With rustoleum use a measuring cup please do not dump and guess when mixing any paints or coatings. To reduce rustoleum stay away from chemically hot solvents or it will kill your paint color learned this years ago. Personally I use medium acrylic enamel reducer is what works for me. Xylene and low odor mineral spirits are fine. Before any paint work wash everything you plan to sand and paint thoroughly use Ospho or prepetch wash with and last tide like your cleaning a engine block fresh from the machine shop this is from my experience is extremely important. A good Wipe with coleman fuel its cheaper than prep sol aka pre cleano and works fine when you get to wiping clean with solvent. As for shooting the primer I use a hvlp gun. With the paint I use my devilbiss mbc or my devilbiss jga for a nice shiny finish. Also if you want rustoleum to shine and lay out better add some penetrol. This is really a great beer budget diy video. I encourage people to paint their own vehicles its fun and you will have a feeling of accomplishment along with a nice paint job you did. You can use a roller or a brush if you do not have a compressor done that before works fine. Thank you again your videos are excellent. I always enjoy them and appreciate them.

Saying that this thing is/was "crusty" is a bit much. It's in insanely good condition. As for the $50 paint job, it looks phenomenal. Nice work dude. And having your daughter help you is so amazing and definitely brought the feels. It gives me warm feelings of when I was young helping my pawpaw on his cars out in the barn.

I once painted a truck, bought nice automotive paint, hardener reducer etc. Came out beautiful Gloss Black... About 5 years later started seeing some surface cracks as if the paint kept hardening and pulling against itself. So for a paint job that might last just as long and be cheaper Id say this is a Great Alternative.

Looks good I did a cheap paint job to my tercel wagon I did a full rattle can paint job and cleared it I had roughly 300 to 350 in buying primer paint and clear and it actually came out amazing I haven't even wet sanded and buffed it cause it laid down so good I see no reason to mess with it car shines awesome. It's been done for a year now sat outside all year long and so far paints holding up amazing rattle can jobs can look good just alot of people don't do the proper prep. I now have a k5 I'm working on and kicking around painting it since I do have to do some body work its a 2 ton and I haven't ever done a 2 ton paint job before

Primer, it's been done for many years nothing new people, gray or black works. My grandpa showed me this 30 years ago and it does work. As you see this guy is a excellent painter with a sprayer,great job dude.👍👍👍👍

In the early 80s the local hardware was going out of business. My friend bought 8 gallons of custom tinted blue rustoleum that was tinted wrong. For years afterwards every vehicle Bob had was that color including the " camper/ school bus. No matter what he happened to be driving he stood out of the crowd. At 10 feet the paint looked 👌.

I just happened to be scrolling through while taking a break from sanding on it. The only difference is that im doin mine with “rattle cans”. Rustoleum makes great stuff. 81 C20 I rolled with the satin and it looked awesome. I only summer drove the truck, so I done the body work with drywall mud. Yup, mud. Easy to sand and the mud/primer was from work, so free. The truck did not drive in the rain much, but the paint would last the summer and rinse and repeat for the next season. Oh, put a 71 block from a LeMans, new carb and that thing would fly. Have a Duramax now, but I miss that truck.

Had an old 85 F150 I'd painted several times with left over Latex house paint. Paint got pretty thick on it.

Years ago I run an auto body repair shop and I had a cousin bring in his truck. He wanted it painted. No sanding. wash it down and mask it off and paint it. Well I did just that. Turned out really nice and the funny thing is it never pealed. The paint stayed on like it was factory. He drover it for a few years and traded it in for a newer truck and the paint was still fine.

I painted my pickup with john deere medium gloss black 5 years ago and it still looks good. sanded it with 120 then 220 grit no primer no Bondo no bodywork washed it wiped it down with a good wax and grease remover and sprayed it. it turned out really good.

Random and rambling, but whenever I see a K5 Blazer, it brings me back to the days of living in northeast Ohio. I knew someone that had one, and rust belt winters were not kind to these. Around the entire rear wheel wells, there was 6" of....nothing. No rockers left, holes in the doors and front fenders, and even the door jambs were so rusty that the door sagged a few inches when opened---you had to lift up the door to get it to close

I’ve mixed it 5-2 with a cap full of Japan Drier to help it flash off and dry quicker. One part hardener to that mix also helps as you said. Just note that the hardener will also add gloss to the paint if you want that effect. Good video and good instruction, thanks.
