50 rep kettlebell swings per day.
Should you or should you not?
This concept is for a lifestyle, not a Challenge.
Even if you lift heavy often, make sure you can do 50 per day, even if it's light and for form, Leave a word or two about what you think in the comment section.
[If you want to see average speed heavy swings, here is a video with 123lb bell • Unbroken 50 Kettlebell... ]
What will produce the best Kettlebell swing benefits?
There are many variations of high rep #kettlebellswing programs or challenges.
Tim Ferriss recommended 75 swings each workout.
Dan John has 10,000 swings in a month and variations of that.
Most consider the kettlebell for conditioning only. With this x 50 swings PER DAY idea, I'm testing the strength and Hypertrophy/consistency saturation part of the equation.
So, listen to your body and see how you fare. You can grab a Polar H7 Chest Strap Heart Rate monitor like I use to see your HR in real-time here bit.ly/2ox3ISJ
Also, remember that 35# kettlebell may be heavy enough for you.
This is about Longevity, not just how heavy you can swing.
UPDATE!!! JOIN OUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNTABILITY GROUP
just search "50 Kettlebell Swings/ Things A Day."
My goal is to help you better yourself both inside and, more importantly, OUTSIDE of the gym, Preferably trying new activities in nature with your family and friends.

Kettlebells are my main form of training. Swings, Rack and Squat, goblets, High PUll etc. I am 74 years old and diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis last year, which is now being helped by Cortisone etc. I'm feeling fantastic and back with the trainer aiming to get back to my original working weight of a 12kg bell which will then be an into into the heavier bells. .Also Regular and Sumo deadlifts with a 16 bell.. I do 110 x 10kg swings in one go, then onto squats etc. and do a workout with the bells aiming at building up the reps. I own two bells, 10kg and 16kg and actually enjoy the power swinging those bells gives me. Good for bone density and endurance, as well a core strength. Thanks for the video.

I am going to be 67 this year. I learned to use KBs about 10 years ago and use them several times a week. I teach KBs to elite athletes in their 20s and 30s and they can't believe the benefits of the work of KBs. I keep stressing that KBs are a total body workout. I never have my students do anything I can't do. I recently challenged them to do 3000 swings in 30 days. I did it with a 45 lb weight and we will see who steps to the challenge. None of them want to let this old guy whip their butts. We will see.

I just started doing KB swings, as I got burnt out on jump roping as form of cardio. Well let me back up. I used the elliptical, lost some weight. Got burnt out. Then I changed to jump rope, really started losing weight. Then I hit a plateau. Then I saw the KB's in my gym, & was like, why not? Started with 20lbs..then moved up to 53lbs., then on to the 72lbs or maybe 75lbs.(can't remember). Anyway, after having 3 babies, always had a kangaroo pouch. I was never able to lose it. My doc said unless I had surgery, it would always be that way. Since I started to use the KB, I noticed my pouch is leaving. So I'm no longer a skeptic, that's for sure.

All I know is that when I did exclusive kettlebell work, I was able to do everyday strength function more easily. My kids got lighter, moving the huge window air conditioner from the upstairs bedroom to the basement was easier. It made my whole body work in unison. Love my squats and deads but kettlebell is best for everyday functional strength.

er....carrying a kid with one arm you can probably thank the KB for - but the eaase of moving the air conditioner you can thank the Deadlift and Squat for. For even greater efficiency, try Trap Bar deadifts instead

You are 100% right about the fact that you can build huge muscles and amazing strength with heavy kettlebell training alone, because i have done heavy kettlebell training for 4 years now combined with few other bodyweight moves. Have trained with weights for about 18 years now, but changed to heavy kettlebells only in 2013. I have 17 kettlebells/heaviest being 48kg golden one, lifting bench, gymnastic rings and a squat rack in my own gym and nothing else.

Made my own kettlebell out of 3/4" pipe and three 25 lb plates for a total of eighty pounds. Worked my way up to 40 reps, sometimes doing two or three sets of 40 reps in a day just to push myself. Been doing it daily for a week now. Slowly getting easier and upping my reps as well, now up to 42 this morning. Forgot to mention I turned 70 years old three days ago. Its never too late.

Great video. Did you do the one-arms with the 40kg? I did the 50 reps 2-hand swings with the 56kg over a year ago and I'm thinking of doing it again. I started with 20/20/10 then 25/20/5 then 35/20 then 40/10 then 50. I thought it would take a couple weeks and was astounded at how quickly you can adapt to a given exercise. It really taught me a lot about breathing and have been super conscious about how I breath during endurance-type exercises ever since.

My gym has been closed since March 20th and probably won't be open for a long while. It's good to try new things. I am more used to doing barbell squats and deadlifts etc, so getting to work with kettlebells is a fun challenge. Your videos are superb. Thank you for making them. Hi thanks for your videos im a big fan of Pavel, Steve Cotter, Steve Maxwell nad Chris Duffin. Saw your talk on Duffins channel and got hooked at your channel. Very informative and good quality knowledge is on your channel. Regarding to your video about the 50 heavy kettlebell swings a day: do you warm up? Im asking because im training everyday with kettlebells and have a really good collection of kettlebells at home (happliy to inform that i will have a 48 kg soon very excited about that too). so my second question is can i do this 50 swings a day in the morning and continue with my routine in the afternoon? [i train with my bells everyday] again thanks for your videos! keep it coming! Peace!

Since the first of the year I've been doing 300 swings per day in 8 » 7 » 6 » 5 sets w/ a #12kg (25 lb.) KB. This week I upgraded to a #16kg (35 lb.) and am back to 8 sets (still 300 swings) reducing sets by 1 each week. In a month or so, I'll prob stay on 300/5 sets w/ a #16kg for a while before jumping up to a #20kg. My back is way, way stronger (and feels better) and my grip strength is noticeably better. Backside, glutes, etc... feel stronger. Slight shoulder soreness w/ the switch to the #16kg. Cheers!

Hi Joe Im looking to buy myself some KBs for home. Do you think a 52kg would be good for swings; both cardiovascularly and for strength? Do you think it's plausible to work up to 20+ reps with a 52kg in one set? I currently swing 40kg down the gym but I have to squeeze the handles of two 20kgs together so I imagine 52kg with ONE kettlebell would probably be easier for me!

Joe...I know you did this video and that challenge many years ago, but I'd like to ask a question if you care to answer. Someone asked you if you did the 50 swings on rest days which was an obvious *Yes* if you said you were doing them everyday. But my question is when you do them on a rest day and there is only just the 50 swings or 90 secs of work.....do you warm up or do you just go straight into it?. I'm thinking that if you can 50 reps anything...the warm up is built in.....would I be correct? Love all your content btw. You were very helpful in your review of the KK adjustable kbell. I went and bought one and it should arrive soon.

Where I live, its difficult to find kttlebell sizes above 16kg. I decided to get some made for myself. Was shooting for 24kgs, but miscalculated the volume and ended up with a 40kg bell. been swinging them for a few years now, on and off. Nevr injured myself. I never did get regular with heavy swings because I was worried about overtraining and injuries. Time to change that mind set. Thanks for the video. Would you mind doing a form check for me with the 40 kg, if I sent you a video? Would be much appreciated.

Kettlebells are the perfect mix of concentric motion for strength training and less eccentric resistance with your back relaxed for a split second after the kettlebell reaches the apex point of the swing and you start to brace for the inertia and go for another rep (thus less muscle tear). You’re able to do it everyday because it’s 2/3 concentric. Kinda like deadlifting, dropping the weight at the top, repeat.

I’m 60, retired 2 months ago, moved to Nicaragua, and got back into the gym after 3 years in the US, being chained to my house and laptop, working during covid. The only thing I was doing was walking and 100 push-ups a day. I have been hitting the gym 3 times a week and feel surprisingly good. I walk 30 minutes there dow the mountain and about 45 minutes home up the mountain to go to the gym. I am working out about 45 minutes just trying to get in reasonable shape again, so it is a 2 hour trek, in total. I am thinking about adding in a kettlebell workout for core and cardio. I want to start light and get good at it, to avoid injury of any kind…then get heavier after a while. Would you suggest like a 35 pounder….and maybe 100 swings ? Thx !

The gym has lots of kettle bells i think up to 30 maybe and no one ever uses them so I'm going to focus on them. Im not looking to build insane muscle but loose a bit of fat, gain strength and conditioning and improve mobility to make day to day life easier. i watched this video a few weeks ago and bought my first kettlebell. im not strong in my upper body as my past focus has been on cycling and time trials and more recently running - from 10k to ultra marathons (only started running in jan 2017). Anyway, to be on the sfe side i got a 24kg and a 16kg. so i try swinging the 24kg but couldnt manage more than 15 reps - so went for a run to loosen up and came back to try out the 16kg bell. bad idea. i was already warm from the run, so as i was doing reps, my hands started to sweat. as i continued i started to tire and around 43 swings in i lost grip, the weight continued forward in to my stereo and sent it flying whilst smashing the glass stand it was on and leaving a nice dent in my wall. guess i will continue doing these outside in future

You can train to increase muscle size or strength: best to separate the two if you want really noticeable results fast; increase the mechanical load overtime by increasing weight, sometimes maintain or decrease the weight slightly but increase the repetition time e.g. 6s concentric and 10 eccentric per rep for 6 reps using 2 planes of motion per muscle group 3-5 minutes rest after each exercise will significantly boost your strength. Increasing volume of repetitions with more sets per exercise and 30-60s rest time between sets will boost size more. You can also use metabolic conditioning to massively boost strength. Kettlebells can be used for all 3 of these training styles!

You can either lower weight so u can control to start: or just try to hold at top where the muscles are at their weakest and will force more core engagement. Just mixes up the training a bit is as good as a rest :)

Difficult for me to really digest just how effective kettlebells have been over the last few months of my life. Never took a second look at them previously, was all about the squat rack and Olympic lifts. Randomly coming across this video invited me to purchase a set of kettlebells and give this a try. The “WTF” effect is mind blowing. Body composition has changed; arm girth, hamstring development, trap development, grip string, VERTICAL JUMP. I will give this a try. I just started using kettlebells, and one of the questions I have is how many times a week the exercises should be done. I am assuming that the more isolated the exercise is, the more rest time one should give their muscles; and the combo exercises (using multiple muscles) can be done more often. If anyone has more specific info about the various exercises, I would appreciate any advice.
