If he had the money to build that car then he has the money to put in the gas tank. This car is badass to say the least. 780HP/ 718FPTQ on a N.A. engine, now that's pretty freaking awesome. Also most of the car is Carbon Fiber, so he made it a lot lighter than a stock 68 Buick. He's got the biggest tires I've ever heard of on a car and yet he's got them all the way around. Not to mention he built a lot of the suspension. This guy is amazing. Great job building this 68 Buick. Absolutely amazing man.

Jeff Froment yeah I was really impressed by that big of a number naturally aspirated. Buick engines aren’t as powerful as the big block chevies or at least they can’t breathe as well as the big block contemporaries and a big block Chevy has a tough time reaching that number. Very amazing. Must have done really extensive work to the cam and heads to have it flow that well.

D Lugo right he did an amazing car. I love the fact that it's got 780HP and 718 Pounds of Torque on a naturally aspirated engine. You don't see that to much on a N.A. engine. Absolutely Amazing Build.

Yeah but the sad part is that Buick engines besides the 455 aren’t really highly regarded. I’ve got a Buick 350 in my skylark and it’s had extensive head porting that was done across the country and a fairly large camshaft (provided by the last guy who owned it cause I’ve only had it for a couple months) and it’s a lame motor. 310 horse MAYBE and there was a lot of money involved in shipping those heads to Texas. Same amount of money in say a small block Chevy 350 you’d be making 400 horsepower and it would scream pretty good. Buick motors always have a bigger stroke, and in many ways it’s just not practical.
@debonairecatalina6570
@debonairecatalina6570 5 жыл бұрын
@@theeoddments960 the Achilles heel of most of the Buick motors were the heads' intake ports and valve design, the ports were narrow and the valves were typically small in diameter. Which was intended for smooth driving and meant to get more torque to move the car at the start, they never really were designed for high performance applications, with the exception of some
@theeoddments960
@theeoddments960 5 жыл бұрын
Debonaire Catalina65 you don’t need to tell me that. The 350 in my skylark was shipped halfway across the country to get potted and polished and it’s still lame. I’ve heard that there are going to be new aluminum head coming from some other company but it would cost literally 2 grand on a mediocre motor anyway. Flowing is a major problem and at least in my case it’s not worth messing around with my motor.

What's old school about it? You do know this was originally FWD right? There's literally nothing stock about it's suspension or drivetrain and outside of the body shell (which was also modded) it's about as similar to the original Riv as a Camaro NASCAR is to it's showroom counterpart. This could easily be a Camry instead. The fact it once started out as a Riv means nothing

i had a '67 Riv, 430 stock engine (low-revving, kinda weak oiling issues). I always wanted to swap my 430 Buick with a Chevy 454. My Riv did hot have posi-rear end. So it was a peg leg rear end. (sad face). Nevertheless, I did do this: I put in a B&M shift kit for the Turbo 400, i deleted the rear resonators and i had a local shop re-do the exhaust and put it out the side, and replaced the air intake with a high flow kit (at the time). With all that, my 4,400 lb '67 Buck Riv still did 0-60 in around 6.8 seconds. Top speed was around 140 mph. i was really stupid with this car...one time, around 1AM, me & and a friend of mine clobbered an '80 L88 'Vette - we topped out around 105 mph. In a 35 mph zone.

Dude, that car is three years younger than me, man. I grew up with big American cars. My dad had a 67 Buick Skylark til the gas crisis of 73. He had a Ford Pinto for about 2 or 3 months, but it was too small for him, he couldn't wear his hat or it would rub the headliner, and his knee hit the dashboard every time he let the clutch out. He had a Dodge Dart (No idea what year) til 76, when he bought a new Skylark from a dealer. It got sold in 79 when he passed. First car I drove was my mom's 74 VW Rabbit. Bottom of the line, AM radio, no power brakes, no power steering, no a/c, 4 speed... First car I bought was a 74 Nova in 83. It had 3 on the tree and a 250 inline six-banger. I blew it up. Then I had a 78 Nova with a 350 and a turbo 350 automatic. I wrecked it. Then after that I had a 78 Chevy Monza with a Buick V6, 4-barrel, 4-speed... I blew it up. I had a 72 Chevy one ton 4x4 pickup that had 220,000 mi on it when I bought it. I blew that up too. Then I had a 70 Pontiac Tempest that I bought for $50 bux, I drove it for 4 months, til the transmission shat the bed. Then I had a 73 Chevy flatbed with a built small block 400, 4-bolt mains, Crane cam, Edelbrock intake, Holley 850 double pumper, Doug Thorley headers, Summit clutch, M22 Muncie 4-speed, 3.73:1 rear end... I blew that motherfucker up too. Then I had a 72 Buick LeSabre that I wrecked, a 69 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup, an 80 Dodge Aspen, two 87 VW Jettas, one 5-speed, one automatic, an 84 Jeep Cherokee, a 72 Chevy Impala, a 91 Pontiac 6000 wagon that I got off my brother, an 89 Chevy S-10 pickup, a 94 Buick wagon, same thing as the 6000 wagon, a 92 F-150 which is still sitting in my back yard, an 03 Dodge Ram 1500 which I wrecked the dogshit out of, and an 03 Ford E-150 work van, which is still on the road. And that's not counting my ex-wife's 86 Cutlass, or the countless company trucks I've driven, and the company truck I drive now. Bottom line, dude, you're shitting yourself going around bends in a car that's built for that shit! Don't be afraid of your vehicle, or it'll fuck you.

John is a real hot rodder. Lot of skill on display there. Really enjoyed the video, I'm a bmw nut. I'd say anyone would respect and admire the skill and end product. The car is so powerful it makes you sick. Thanks for sharing guys!

Lmao his face explained it all about the power this car has. I have a 67 riviera that I’m building now with a 2 stage 455. I blew up my 430 engine three times so decided to go with the 455 block

Awesome build!! My father used to have a completely stock 1971 Buick GS stage 1. It still had a 345 horsepower 455. Fun car to drive for sure.

I developed the '69 Buick Electra GSX based "Faithful Pursuit", Tuskegee Airman tribute pro-touring car. Pro built NASCAR CUP suspension, caged, twin turbo Buick V-8, 335mm wide Michelin PS-2's etc, etc. I am super impressed with the Riv and have seen video of it in action. It has the guts in turns, like my Buick.

Hats off to this man!! he built it very perfect and balanced, otherwise muscles were badnamed for not good handling comparing to euro cars..anyone can bring big numbers to horses, planting everything big just to hit 0 to 60..But not everyone can build such great handling car, he made buick in motorsports terms!!!! sometimes a guys keeps lots of horses in his car just for satisfaction and collection that he had life achievement in his life with having a mean badazz ride!!!

this guy reproduced what you would see on a nascar oval , but adapted it to the street.....beautiful car....sounds exactly like a nascar from the late 60's too......that thing looks like it literally rides on rails....the longer wheelbase with the widebody .....that car sticks.
