I've recommended a very similar budget builds to a handful of people, with a 6600 for around 750$. Including the Silicon Power 500gb nvme + Seagate 2tb hdd for mass storage. Deepcool MATREXX 40 3FS MicroATX Case includes 3 case fans, 2 of which are RGB and has decent airflow. Great video, nice that you also include some in game benchmarks for reference.

I think the thing I like most about this build is the great upgrade path moving forward. A better CPU is a future drop-in upgrade, and the PSU is plenty for a much stronger (and more modern) GPU down the line. It's a nice build!
@tyzer24
@tyzer24 Жыл бұрын
In my experience, by the time this build isn't able to play games at 1080p anymore... It'll be time for a new budget platform (However, the gpu upgrade is certainly plausible and potentially recommended in eventual future).
@dparson

The vrms on this MB prevent higher powered CPUs from achieving their max performance according to testing from Hardware Unboxed and the like, and there are much better MBs for future upgradeability at a similar price. The suggested MB is not a good one for the future though testing has confirmed it is ok for an i5-12400 or lower.

@@z33pys5 Not sure if I'm allowed to link the videos but if you search for "Best Budget Intel B660 Boards" on Hardware Unboxed and "Best B660 Motherboard Roundup" on BuildPicker and "Best i5 12400 Gaming PC Build 2022" on PC Builder, there's lots of good tests and analysis. I went with an MSI Pro B660M-A WIFI DDR4 because I needed the wifi & bluetooth and there's also a non-wifi & bluetooth version that's cheaper. There's also a -G version but I'd avoid it since it's missing DRM heatsinks. You'll see in the tests that this MB runs an i7-12700 well but we'll have to wait for testing to see how it does with next gen, maybe it will be ok with an i7-13700 without getting too hot but we'll have to see (i7-13600 should be ok). One complication on all these older videos is that DDR5 is getting much more affordable so you might want to consider DDR5 based on your budget. Hardware unboxed just made a video about this very subject. Good luck, it's never a good time to build it seems, we just have to go for it :)

If you had done a budget build based on say 10th gen you could've had a brand new rtx 2060 paired with an i3 10100f for roughly the same price. You'd lose maybe 10 percent on cpu performance but would gain 50-60 percent on gpu, not to mention you'd have raytracing, warranty for the card, and a card worthy of carrying over to a future build. Idk it makes sense to me but of course there are multiple ways to approach a budget build.
@weeaboojones2451
@weeaboojones2451 Жыл бұрын
For this budget I would buy a used case and use the extra money to buy a used 1070 or 2060 depending on what you can find. Even so, this build will play most games at 1080p 60fps (mid to high settings) and 1440p/4k 30fps (low to mid settings) so its a pretty good deal.

Hi! New here. I like your videos and watch just for the hardware. Do you ever make videos focusing on normal, non-gaming PCs and workstations (office/business, stock trading, photo editing, video editing, architectural design, CAD, engineering analysis/simulation, home network servers, etc.) and components? Or is this channel targeted only to those who just play games on their PCs?

Last July, I bought a $700 gaming laptop: i5-11400H, GTX 3050, 15.6" 144Hz 1080p, 16GB. Back then, all I really knew was that a pre-built gaming desktop wouldn't touch those values. Now that I have learned more, what if I had taken that $700 and instead built my own gaming desktop? After $150 for a 144Hz 1080p monitor, that leaves $550 for the PC itself. Prices always change, and I really appreciated this video. Thank you.

Got the same cpu but went with a H610M board on sale for $52CAD less than the B660 board, H610 gives you all the features you really need, don't see why people assume B660 has " a lot more features" which is simply not true, you only really need 2 ram slots, 1 m.2 slot, 1 x16 gpu slot, and my H610M also has a mini pcie wifi card slot which the B660's don't. The only notable feature is better cooling on the VRM's but with good airflow shouldn't really matter.

Just a heads up, the guys from Hardware unboxed did a roundup of budget B660 MB's and found the DS3H VRMs limit it to lower power CPUs, so there's not a good CPU upgrade path with this MB. I ended up spending $20 more to get one of the MB's they found had VRMs that provide an upgrade path and hope the word gets out about this major limitation of the DS3H. I saw another reviewer saying Gigabyte was false advertising saying the DS3H supported the 12900 since the VRMs throttle it so much.

If you care about the amount of storage more than the speed you can get a 2tb hdd for around the same price of the 512gb ssd
