I just built a $360 PC with an i7 8700k and GTX 1080. But it takes some work. These are parts that I accumulated in a span of three months, but it lacks upgradeability unlike AM4.

Great video and great budget build, nice to see the 970 still rocking it in 2022. Would have been nice to see some comments on when the PC would meet its limit which I guess would the GPU first, eg. games which ideally needs more than the 3.5gb of fast vram the 970 has to run at medium settings. Still an awesome video overall.

Great budget build Matt! Have you ever run into any “weird” screws on GPUs when taking one apart to change the thermal paste, or have they just been Phillips head screws?

Generally all Philips head. There might be some instances, like I think with Nvidia founders edition cards, but again many require only 4 Philips head screws to separate the PCB from the cooler.

i have a slilcon power SSD ( Not M.2 ) and it is perfect. iv'e had it in my PC since i built it ( a few years ago ) and even though i had a small budget back then iv'e kept it and used it more and more since i been upgrading my PC. and i couldn't recommend SP more.

About the only thing I'd change, and this would be if I was getting used, is the ram. I'd go with slower 2666 speed ram. Zen 1 had problems back in the day with not posting if you enabled too fast of ram speed in the bios. That doesn't seem to be a problem these days. Dunno if something changes with newer ram kits, or if it was fixed with bios updates. Something to keep in mind tho.

it was the B350 mobo that made it a lot worse than it really was. Once i got my B450 board my OC went up and i was able actually to enable my 3200 DOCP/XMP profile

As someone who is tempted to switch to Linux becauae of Windows 11's need for a microsoft account and lack of privacy I think this would be intresting. Also great video by the way!

basically did same exact build for same price but with a gtx 950ti. Had an all black case no window because wanted one without. Litera, same exact ssd, ryzen 5 1400, a320m-k 16gb of black 3200 mhz OLOY ram, and a 600w psu. Not as good parts but built it 3 days ago for 300

I found a 1060 3gb oc for 80 euros, a case for 30, an a320 Motherboard for 20 euros and a Ryzen 5 3600 for 100 with the stock cooler, all on the used market but got lucky and motherboard never opened from its box same as with the case, and I'm planning on spending 150 euros more for new set of 16gb ram, an SSD and a power supply for a total of 380 euros, how's that for a budget build?

You can get a 10100f from intel under 70 dollars, it's faster in gaming than the Ryzen 1600 but slightly slower in video editing

I wouldve stayed with the vega igpu until I find a good used rx580 price, I got an 8gb one back in 2020 for only 120+$ and Ive seen some listing the 4gb version for even lower but if I have to fully build one asap then your build is really great for 300$ thank you great content as always

R5 1600 has no iGPU, you meant getting a different CPU with integrated graphics? Problem with those is that when you do upgrade and get a dGPU, the CPU itself will be worse than its non iGPU counterpart (for example, 5600G being at 5500 level and not supporting PCIE4)

You could overclock that 970 to 1520-1550mhz and +300mhz on the memory for a free 10-12fps

@@Neonloverx If I can get a 5600g and a dedicated GPU in the build for around $300 then I'll get that. I would like to add more storage as well; maybe a 1TB SSD or NVME to go along with the 512GB SSD. That will increase the budget but hopefully nor by much. I'd rather give my son a super budget PC for his birthday instead of no PC at all. We can always upgrade it in the future. Thanks for the advice.

@@BREEZYM6015 Just as a quick bit of info, if you're definitely going to put a graphics card in the system, then the 5600g is pointless, go for the 5500 and save a decent chunk of money (depending on your location).

Thats a good system. But nothing will beat my lenovo m910t i7 7700. I paid AUD $285 and when I opened it up to put a graphics card in it to my surprise it already had a GTX 1080 inside.

i can understand wanting an ssd in a build but for a big game and software library one cant go wrong with an hdd in the mix and booting from an ssd.

@@mryellow6918 i have fairly new games and i dont have any issues running them off of a hdd personally. maybe load times are a bit slower but im patient and can wait just a few more seconds for a game to load. plus i also happen to archive a ton of things and cant currently run a nas

Heads up with the case for anyone buying. The case is basically held together by magnets and tape. I ordered a bunch of these and one of them shattered in the box.

in country i live Malaysia, gtx 1050ti $90-100 ,gtx 1060 6gb $110-120, and 1070 $150-160, the price is slightly higher, i recommend you to get 1060 6gb much2 better

A 2200G would be a better choice imo they are quite cheap and have an integrated graphics. An apu mobo ram combo is better value imo.

Your best best is selling locally to avoid fees and shipping(OfferUp, craigslist, FB marketplace, etc.). In terms of online, eBay will probably fetch the highest price, but has insane fees. Jawa is also a decent option for selling online.

I spent $200 on: [mATX pc case, 16gb memory, and a motherboard] to build my 7 year old son a budget gaming pc. I already had a ryzen 5 1400, wraith prism cooler, msi radeon rx 570 8gb, 2.5” ssd, 3.5” hdd, and Corsair 750 watt psu. It games pretty well for him.

Bro idk what you found on eBay but I got a pc with ssd 16gb ddr4 i5 7500 RTX 3050 pc for 250€. But I have to say that I know someone who can order them very cheap at a German shop named Mediamarkt. Got the graphicscard for 155€ and the pc for 90€. It was an old office pc.

I agree it's good but no good upgrade paths. You'll need a new motherboard for a significant boost in performance to 12th Gen, since 11th Gen wasn't a good boost. Ryzen on the other hand you can upgrade all the way to 5000 series. So for the same price, I think upgradability makes sense

Honestly I’ve seen the r7 1700 for about 50$ recently since the 7000 series came out

Nominally, the GTX 970 performs like a 1650 D6 but Cyberpunk shows how the Maxwell and Pascal cards are marginal these days in DX12 performance. I think even a 980 would probably struggle with Cyberpunk too because it is not much more powerful than the 970. I have a 1080 and you can run high detail and get around 70fps in Cyberpunk but it is beaten by 10-20fps by an RX6600. Even the 1650 gives vastly better performance in cyberpunk, getting something like 75fps on medium settings I wouldn't recommend 900 series cards these days but considering the low budget you didn't really have any better options. Once the Zen 4 APUs launch it is likely builds such as these will become entirely unattractive.
