Awesome son! I've been praying for Kentucky, we had a flooded basement ourselves a while ago and it killed our washer and hot water heater. But at least we're all safe, and it happened during the summer so it wasn't bad going without hot water for a while. I'm shocked how expensive those things are! We have some insurance, but flood insurance costs way extra, and this is the only time this area has flooded since before I was born.
@WarblesOnALot

@@zxyatiywariii8 G'day, Welcome to Anthropogenic Global Warming...! It makes EVERYTHING "Er...", or "ier"... Wind is forever growing Windier. Rain, Rainier. Hail is Hailier and Droughts are Hotter, Drier, Longer and Intense-ier. Temperatures are Steadily forever breaking Higher Records, And, yes, Floods are Floodier.... Rise Higher, and show up More frequentier (OK, I'll admit it, "More Frequently"). But, remember, YOU VOTED FOR ALL THIS... EVERY single time YOU Chose to buy and burn Hydrocarbon Fuel refined from Fossil Sources, and EVERY Time YOU use Electricity produced by burning Fossil Fuel (Coal or Natural Gas), AND EVERY Time YOU Chose to purchase ANYTHING which was grown, mined, logged, fished, farmed, processed, transported, manufactured, stored, distributed and advertised - using Fossil Fuels... I did it, too. Because it takes 25 YEARS for a Cubic Foot (metre, Yard, kilometre or Mile...) of Carbon Dioxide to FINISH causing 95% of all the Global Warming which it will ever achieve...; then this CRAZY Weather which we are now achieving, is MY Fault, because in 1997 my Car ran on LPG and I was driving around trying to fix the ills of the Earth by reciting original Poetry about Environmental Issues and selling Books of it, printed on Recycled Paper... (Look in my "Warbles In The Wilderness..." Playlist ; it's where I stash the Poetry...., and please also try my, "The SunFoil Project..." Playlist - which teaches my tip for YOU to add a Solar Panel onto your Road Vehicle - to significantly reduce it's Fuelburn... We can ALL improve our little scene, y'see. But 6 BILLION of you-alls took NO fcukin' Notice at all, whatever, and ye fcucked your way up to become 8 Billion, all while roughly doubling your annual Greenhouse Gas Output, via insistence on the mindless pursuit of endless EcoGnomic Growth. So, I recognised a Fool's Errand, when I rubbed my face in it - and I went back to the Endangered Species Sanctuary, fed the Kangaroos and Swamp Wallabies my spare Bread, and got on with cleaning up MY own Lifestyle. Because, I could achieve that... What YOU-ALLS did, was all Your own CHOICE... But, You DID in fact CHOOSE, Behaviourally, more or less, to participate in causing all this shitty bloody Drought/Fire/Storm/Flood/Hail/Wind - and Repeat Weather Catastrophe, without ANY "Good" Years or Seasons, ever, for anybody, anywhere on Earth. We ALL did. At least I woke up to myself, and stopped TRYING to make EVERYTHING Forever Worse - for reasons amounting to how Selfishly Convenient it was, and remains, to "simply" burn ever more Fossil Carbon and Hydrocarbon - because it has been always "Cheap enough to burn"..., for all of our lives. Until now. I live atop a Hill, too, only a Kilometre West of the Continental Watershed, and when it floods locally then the Spring under my Hut starts to run, and my place smells mouldy. All my own CHOICES (!). Such is life, CHOICES Do MATTER... So, start not fcuking up, Now, Perhaps ? Your CHOICE. Change what you are doing, Or STOP Whining About getting Exactly what you Asked FOR...(!). Such is life, Have a good one.... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !

he tried to do this once shooting 700 Nitro out of a 10 gauge it was pretty underwhelming to get it to finally blow up he had to pack the barrel full of mud and use standard 10 gauge rounds. Think IV8888 did a video with this once also with some no name .410 shotgun they shot .454 casull out of it and it worked just fine. In short shotguns don't blow up easily. That being said here's his 10 gauge video of 700 nitro express in it. He does eventually do a bore obstruction in it as well. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpuGfNFqybG6pJs.html&ab_channel=KentuckyBallistics

IIRC, a .22LR has about a grain to a grain and a half of powder. It should theoretically be possible to double that in the space available, but I'm not sure that would generate enough pressure to cause damage. Maybe in a bolt action with a barrel obstruction. .22 WMR would probably be the better bet for causing damage to your gun. There's a lot more room for powder in that cartridge.

I think getting some of those pressure pads that break at certain pressure ranges, would be a nice addition to these kinds of videos. Mayne even a digital pressure gauge, something to let you know how much pressure the percussion is generating. Kind of like how Myrhbusters used to do.

Scott, look for the top strap somewhat forward of the guns position. Being familiar with cases of dynamic disassembly of revolvers, the top strap generally will break at the rear sight first as it makes it's way upward. It is then detached from the frame at the barrel shank at the last of the event. I believe this is a intentional design so material is deflected away from the shooter. The recoil shields on a revolver, both double and single action, act as guards for any pieces that seperate from the cylinder. Although it is a small area, it does translate into a greater area of protection for the shooters face. Most dynamic events with revolvers leave the shooters face and head areas with little or no damage due to their designs.

That is what we call failsafe designs. Not all firearms have this as seen with scotts incident with a 50.cal. Most other rifles and handguns have those built into the design from defectors, intentional weakpoints etc so if failure occurs its less likely to injure or severely injure the user.

It hurts to see a 500 magnum destroyed, but I understand. I shudder thinking about the time I had a dang Squib where it lodged in my 500 barrel and thank God I was able to realize it before pulling off the next shot...that could've been catastrophic as well. Keep up the great vids Scott.

This seems like the safest of the detonations!!! I mean if it fails at the cylinder I think your chances of serious injury is fairly minimal. I feel the back strap provides a diversion keeping everything going straight up or to the sides. I’d like to see a more common revolver maybe do a .357 next to a colt SAA. I’d like to see the difference between the .500.

I'd be curious to know how much more or less penetrating power the rounds have when they have that much pressure behind them compared to a standard round. If you do this again, maybe setup a bunch of pine boards in front of the barrel and compare the results to a standard round?

Glad to see this series again Scott very informative. The only thing I wonder is that with those round being so hot if they blow the gun apart totally different than what would happen if you encountered a round that was just enough to break the gun, if the debrie pattern would be different or not? Just something I have thought of, would be interesting to see if a 100,000 psi round would blow that round if it would inflict more injury towards you or not? Always love your videos!
@ebreshea
@ebreshea Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting idea but that's difficult to test. It's hard to say if a round would be "just enough" to break the gun. And repeated testing on the same gun could introduce weaknesses that cause it to break differently when you do finally find the right PSI to break it. Or it might change what the "breaking point" PSI is altogether.
@mfree80286
@mfree80286 Жыл бұрын
@@ebreshea On these guns (revolvers) you're pretty much always just going to end up with injured hands and little peppers of shrapnel. Remember, revolvers have been in this general format for over 160 years (talking with a solid frame, top strap) and for the longest time were prone to chainfire and bad metallurgy. It's a system that's been proven in trial by fire. So long as you've got a recoil shield on the frame, your face should be safe for the most part. You'd have to be so supremely unlucky as to have the top strap fail at the front and then peel backwards before failing at the rear to get anything significant to you.

It would take a bit of engineering and totally implausible but what would it take for a .22 to catastrophically fail? Or a shotgun?
@SimuLord

For a shotgun, a slug plus a barrel obstruction in a tube-fed pump gun would probably be your best bet. A break-action/coach gun would just fail at the break; might not even be beyond repair.

Should do a whole hunting edition episode, Dry fire a compound bow without you having to be the one that pull it back somehow and watch that explode lol. it can really screws you up if it happens to you. Japanese early model Arisaka, but work your way up to the boom-out load, Arisakas were one of the strongest actions tested after WWII (P.O.Ackley), be interesting in the handbook for shooters and reloaders vol. 1&2, there is a chapter on strength of actions. He did some scary hot loads and had to be creative to get them to fail. I believe the Type 38 early production.

Having watched a couple of these, I find myself less curious about the destruction, but more about pressure tolerances. Being a fan of the 10mm, I would be curious to see how hot of a round some of the common makes could handle before problems arose.

That right there at 8:56 is what we call an Elmer Keith moment. Those of you who watch Forgotten Weapons should catch on to this one. I forget what kind of revolver Keith was using, but he tried to hot load it with the equivalent of .45cal. His gun went boom leaving only half the cylinder behind (plus the copper casing fused to one of the partial chambers) and the creation of a new caliber.
