This nursery Fish pond system is made by dividing 3 IBC tanks each with a capacity of 1000 liters. When we showed this one unit in many of the videos we did, many people were curious to know more about it. That’s why we thought of making a video to introduce this unit. This unit is designed to raise a variety of juvenile fishes. You can use this system to raise different species of fish as well as ornamental fishes.

This nursery system is designed to treat and raise different species of juvenile fishes for about three weeks. Treating the juvenile fishes for three weeks will cure almost the problems. Only after this treatment it is supplied to the required customers.
This nursery fish pond system has been operating here for about 4 months. Prior to that, the juvenile fishes were usually kept in small tanks. However, the quality of the water could not be maintained the same and which in turn lead to the death of many fishes. This unit was set up as a solution to overcome this problem.
This is a small Aquaponics unit. The three IBC tanks of 1000 liters are cut vertically and used as 6 separate smaller tanks. Each of these tanks can hold up to 500 liters of water. All these tanks are connected to a small filter system in an Aquaponics style.
I would like to share here how the system made, the advantages as well as the disadvantages of this unit method.
IBC tanks.
The most important part of this unit is the IBC tanks. In this unit only three tanks are currently in use, but depending upon the requirement we can connect as many thanks as needed. One tank with a capacity of one thousand liters can be cut horizontally and used as two tanks with a capacity of 500 liters each. IBC tanks are available in the market today at a price of around Rs 3,500. But when buying the tanks, try to buy tanks that have been cleaned already. Due to the presence of oil it is very difficult to clean the tank on your own.
Mechanical filter unit.
The mechanical filter is another important part of nursery fish pond unit. All tanks are connected to the filter unit using an inch pipe from the bottom. The connection from the tanks is provided to the bottom of this barrel. This filter unit is equipped with a bio sponge and fiber net. A drain out valve is also provided at the bottom of the barrel to remove the slurry from the filter.
NFT Aquaponics system.
The NFT system for growing vegetables is made of four-inch PVC pipe. Instead of the NFT system, standard grow beds can also be used for this purpose. This system is made of PVC pipe due to the lack of facilities in this particular unit. Vegetables are grown in glasses kept by making holes made in PVC pipe within a gap of 15 cm. Lot of small holes have been drilled around the plastic glass with a drill. After that the seedlings can be planted in it filled with metal.
SUBMERSIBLE PUMP
A submersible pump is used to deliver water from the filter to the PVC pipe. It uses the WP 5200 model pump from the company called SOBO. This pump of 75 watts draws water up to a height of two meters.
Ammonia-containing water from the filter is pumped through to the PVC pipe using a submersible pump. Vegetables planted in glass in PVC pipe grow pretty well by absorbing ammonia and other nutrients in this water. At the same time the pure water returns through the pipe to each of the fish tanks.
Another important part of this unit is the aerator needed to give the fishes the required oxygen. We used the Hailea HAP 80 model aerator for this unit. This is a good high power aerator which is capable of providing good aeration to the fishes in all the six fish tanks.
