The Secret Life of Parkinson's: BRIAN IS BACK! In this episode, we spend a little time just catching up on how we are feeling. While we might look positive and put together, we all experience our off or bad days, and that's ok.

Love the podcasts. I just had DBS surgery two weeks ago and will be "turned on" next Tuesday (03/07/23) I'm looking forward to seeing how it helps. I'm on a lot of meds (2 different doses of Rytary, Gocovri, carbidopa, and ongentys) I am hoping to reduce the meds.

@The Secret Life of Parkinson's It went well, I was amazed at how well it worked when I was "turned on". My tremor was minimized immediately, and I felt I had better control of my movements.

Definitely starts in the gut and your stomach absolutely responds to that change! 🖐️ I'm one of those examples. There is circulating theory that a first symptom years before the obvious symptoms start is bowel irregularities. I went gluten free for four years thinking it was that since I also carry the celiac gene. We used to joke that I had celiac disguised as Parkinson's. Turns out I just had parkinson's.

That's interesting you say that. I never put the two together but years ago I went gluten free (wasn't celiac so I just assumed it was a gluten sensitivity). I'm fine with gluten now - are you?
@laurenard9431
@laurenard9431 Жыл бұрын
@@thesecretlifeofparkinsons yes I'm fine with it now. I got tested and I wasn't celiac. I was certain it was celiac or a sensitivity. I eat gluten again now. I did see someone on the Parkinson's buddy network through the mjf foundation say that they went gluten free because it helps their Parkinson's symptoms.

Parkinson’s doesn’t run in my family, but I to had bowel irregularities all my life. I was diagnosed at 68. Think there is something to the gut brain theory.

i love your podcast. the crying thing could be pseudobulbar affect. it's associated with people with parkinson's. i have parkinson's and pba is one of my symptoms. it can also be uncontrollable laughing as in joaquin phoenix's joker. the smallest thing can trigger episodes of sobbing. embarrassing in public or social situations. i can have periods of absolute apathy along with my pba. there's a drug to treat it but it interferes with my rasagiline absorption. so forget that.

I have heard of the pseudobulbar affect. That sounds like a bad job by the pharma companies - creating a drug to treat pba but it interferes with a popular PD drug. Thanks for listening!

There are acupressure points in the legs and the eyebrows that can help you sleep better. 😁 My wife practices this on me and I’m sleeping much better, and more consistently now.

I was diagnosed 12 years ago and I just now discovered you accidentally on KZfaq. You’re talking about so many things I have always suspected; but, you’re the first “Parkinson’s Site” to confirm my suspicions. For example, I have always suspected the link between my intestines and my symptoms. I’m looking forward to watching all of your videos. Do you produce programs on a scheduled basis and, if yes, how do I find out when your next program will be on KZfaq?

Glad you found us! If you go to The Secret Life of Parkinson's page on KZfaq, just click subscribe and then in your notifications, you have to make sure your subscription notifications are "turned on". We typically release videos every Thursday. Sometimes I do quick one-off videos throughout the week, but our actual podcast recordings should be released on Thursdays!

I just read a new book that was published and it may help. It was an easy read and I really enjoyed it. It's called "You have Young Onset Parkinson's" by Blake L. Bookstaff

Just remember, there's nothing can do to change it, but you change how you respond. Like the rest of life it's a journey, not the destination.
