Today I cut some firewood, pulled down a hung maple, ground a stump, and touched up a few places with the John Deere 333G and Diamond Mowers Disc Mulcher. I also used the RK 37 and Granite Grapple

The story about machines catching fire reminded me of an event I witnessed years ago while working at a small college in SC. New dorms were being built and a guy was using a dozer to level an area and must not have known how close to the surface the natural gas trunk line was. Well, he ruptured the 4" to 6"plastic pipe which caused a geyser-like fountain of gas to shoot skyward higher than the nearby 5-story building. The first thing that happened was the dozer driver's immediate exit from the machine. Next the diesel started pulling that gas vapor through the air intake and the RPMs skyrocketed. Luckily the motor blew without any sort of flames. When the gas crew showed up they calmly towed the dozer off the cut and the guy just walked right up to the getser of gas and cut the pipe and spliced a new piece in. By the way, you and that machine were made for each other. Outside of the cost, that is one of the best machines I have seen for your property.

hello mike. When you are hunting deer, they are unaware of your presence. when you step on a branch or make a sound you spook them because they were not aware that you were there. but when you run a machine or a chainsaw, they are aware that someone is doing something in the woods and they come by curiosity. they are very curious animals. the same thing applies here, when we finish cutting wood we always see a few mooses.

I was splitting some firewood beside my mobile home and was about half way done and turned around and there was a deer (doe) about 5 ft behind me standing there watching me. It started to move away when I turned until I started talking to it softly and then it stopped and turned back to me and stood there for about another 10 minutes. It then slowly walked away after that going across my yard and down past my huge pond.

Talk about versatility, pull trees down, grind stumps, cut trees, paths - can it swim cross creeks? one nice machine there. Shame the cutter head can't be canted to one side or the other to help get a "Level Path" while clearing with it. Perhaps you could cut more! From a habitat standpoint making a couple 5 acre clear cuts on the property and adding a couple more every 5 years would be great. Take the saw mill logs but don't grind up the brush, tree tops and stumps... Those combined with the resulting grasses and high stem count saplings and brush would provide cover and food for a wide variety of wildlife. When combined with your open woods you'd have the best of all upland habitat worlds! Check out Ruffed Grouse Society and Audubon Society for information on young forests. We need them!

Figured I wasn't going to be the only to catch that "oopsie" ...about the only way I remember that is by remembering the sugar maple is great for syrup, but the high sugar content might just make it rock hard (even if that's not the true cause for it being hard it helps me remembering what tree produces "hard maple")
