In this video, we get rid of the chrome emblems by installing black emblem overlays. 5th gen 4Runners all come with chrome rear emblems and silver side emblems, including the TRD Pro version. The chrome look is definitely not in anymore, so what do most people do? They either de-badge the emblems, or they paint them/plasti-dip them. While de-badging will get rid of the chrome, the truck does look a little naked afterward.
Then there's paint or plasti-dip, you can definitely do so but the paint or plasti-dip will chip off very soon. Unless you are getting your emblems professionally done, paint chipping will happen and that will definitely cost a pretty penny.
The solution is emblem overlays! These are black ABS plastic so there is no paint to worry about chipping and they fit right over your OEM emblems. This way you won't lose the expensive OEM emblems and you get the black look you want.
With emblem overlays, the biggest thing when installing them is the prep work. Like anything, with proper preparation, it will last. You just have to make sure the surface you are applying the overlays on to is clean and room temperature to apply. If you are applying it to a dirty or cold surface it would be like applying to dirt or an ice cube.

My overlays for my doors and tailgate came in the mail today !!! Dudes , these things are awesome ! I put them on and they look great. I had ordered some that replace your original badges but I sent those back. These are way better. Super cool

@@Alley-np7wy So I ended up purchasing them and they have held up perfect. No issues. I live in Florida, it obviously hot and rains a ton. No issues in the car wash either.

@@XxAlex530xX yes holding up perfect no issues at all. Quite amazing honestly. Many, many car washes and waxes … no problem. I def recommend. No if they just made one to cover the whole 4Runner I would be set 😂

These look sick! One question, though. Will these overlays survive an automatic car wash? I'd hate to spend the money, only to end up losing the overlays in a car wash.

We have these overlays on all of our trucks. They have been on for 3 years and have been through many power washes. If you don't intentionally spray the edge underneath at point blank, they will be fine.

Rick Mccraw yes I could use some Tacoma ones. I actually have the full ones that are not overlays but replacements. However I would prefer to not take off the stock chrome Tacoma and V6 ones. Gonna add the 4X4 badge though

Have you *removed* overlays before? Mine are fading and I wanna repaint them. So far separating them from the original emblems is a pain. they’re just pulling off the original emblems with them

Just picked these up from your website. The overlays were good quality along with the grille lights. I will advise though for those who are ordering from Canada. The brokerage fees from UPS are SO STUPID. For those 2 items alone, the brokerage fee was almost $65 on top of the original $40 shipping charge... $288 cad, all in all for overlays and 3 grille lights.. SMH lol
