jordan williams How?! Their baritones are playing out of there range on every song and dont sound full at all. Plus there was alot of incorrect notes. Grambling sounds incredibly improved and I look forward to where they will be in the future, but JSU is one of the most balanced bands I’ve ever heard and extremely clean and powerful on every song. Just listen to the huge difference when both played Earthquake in the first round.

Even if we cant come to a conclusion on who won, can we all agree that this is the Grambling that we all missed in the SWAC!!!! But in the end JSU for the W for me..

I stayed for this 5th quarter and was not disappointed. GSU has got so much better, I applaud you. But JSU is on another level. I can’t wait to see y’all next year La.

I think this is the best 5th of the season so far. GSU has to be the most improved band in the SWAC this season. The sound is night and day compared to last year. The arrangements can use some work. JSU is cleaner and better balanced this seasoned. They are the band to beat so far this season in my eyes. They took the w but Grambling wasn't a pushover.

The Boom got that W. Grambling does sound a lot better this year but some of their arrangements just are not there yet. They don't have that full wall of sound yet. Too many empty parts.

Grambling honestly just needs upper brass to pierce through when they go for that wall of sound. Nothing a lil cardio wont fix. Yall definitely sound good. Definitely changed a lot of opinions after this battle. Jsu bringing the heat in spades as usual. Battle was a lot closer than I expected. W goes to Jsu for execution and arrangements. Keep on improving Grambling I would love to see yall vs A&M soon.

GSU sounded very good last season so idk what ppl saying these two just didn't meet last season but GSU sounded and looked very good last season. These are two different style of playing gsu did what I expected and it worked very well for them just as the boom. GSU is surprising alot they had new shows weekly this week a new drill and dance routine and book for the fifth this was a good battle. But GSU style matches their playing. Good job to both but I'm sure gsu isn't trying match JSU or be like the boom no gsu did gsu and it worked very well. Last season they did well and it just carried to this season. Good job to both. But JSU wasn't 100% solid over there you can tell fans an bias because noone is bringing up JSU faults in this fifth but GSUs are pointed out. Really good battle! I liked how they battled playing the same artists! This what 5ths are supposed to be about. Match song for song. Or match the intensity of one song to the other. Good battle. Glad to see GSU step their game up finally.

Just face it J.S.U. has become tuba university..No matter how weak your other sections maybe. In my honest opinion those tubes keep me hyped for every song the.boom perform.The whole sound of the boom that year was clean.and crisp.

I think the consensus from most band heads is the Grambling has definitely improved, best sound I've heard from them in 30+ years but they are not quite there yet. I took my time and scored this battle with a 12 being the max score. GSU-5 JSU-8 Jackson state with the W

This was a really good battle! JSU takes the W, but not by a lot. I give credit when it’s due. GSU has come a long way. Arrangements are still iffy. That Please me was 🗑. Keep working. JSU’s song selection is 🤔?? at times. But you have to contend with JSU’s tubas🔥🔥. My God those Tubas are on another level. Sweet Love was too fast. Overall the Boom has better arrangements. I look forward to seeing what GSU does this season. Great Battle.

JSU took this one but my hats off to GSU. They have improved since last year. I can finally listen to them without taking my headphones off. Grambling please keep the same energy and match bands. Also, stay consistent throughout the season, please don't fall off with the next school. I see where you all are going with this. I have no problem saying that you all use to sound like a train wreck. By the way, I think you all were playing Lizzo, "It ain't my fault", that one is not ready yet. Also, you can't play that Intro at 20:12 and then go into an arrangement like that. You should have sent a statement arrangement after that. The only thing you all did was give JSU a chance to B slap you with SCAR.

@@deontetyler7469 JSU arrangements were more advanced than TNSU...TNSU was good but arrangements was a little empty all u can hear btones and trombones playing half notes....JSU on other hand was playing full notes u can HEAR every SECTION BLENDING with chord runs which made JSU arrangements advance than TNSU..Just because a band did good doesn't mean got W...JSU was better and way more advanced 💯

@@BFRESH1 the way Jsu music is arranged is perfectly fine but their trumpets not strong enough in certain arrangements they still continuously getting drowned out by the upper and lower brass and tubas at times here and there. I don't understand how ppl keep saying Jsu is the perfect band of the year not hating or nothing because I love how they handling business this year. Imo Tnsu has the full sound and better sound but Jsu take the win by song selection power and energy because they kept the crowd in tune.

Kudos to gram for the major improvement within a week I'm feeling this new direction and open minded adjustments..the future is looking potentially great for this young band..keep improving and grinding in the band room..get that lung stamina up too lol but overall sounded good...sonic boom big doggin as usual..this was a enjoyable battle as well looking forward to more good battles from these two this season

Both bands sound great. Both have their flaws; however, still great entertainment. JSU and SU are my top bands. Either way I love HBCU bands. One gripe I have with GSU is, Please stop saying "GSU" before every song. We know who you are, just play!

Great battle, but JSU was ahead every round, but made their dominance clear at 18:00. JSU is superior to GSU. GSU has sound and good arrangements. GSUs tubas are pretty weak if you ask me. They have tuba players who are more concerned with going up octaves, which takes away from the section. If the section was solid all around, the few who take it up an octave wouldn’t be an issue, but since they are not that solid, it hurts more than helps. Additionally, seem to fail at playing to the end of the note; they seem gassed, and fail at giving notes their full value. If they could tie up their lose ends, they would be more impressive than JSU, as JSU has size, which is a contributing factor to their sound. But undeniably, JSU is probably the best sounding SWAC band, Southern is the only SWAC band that gives them a run for their money.

Of course field music will be better but if GSU did that it would've been a issue you act as GSU was horrible come on. Let gsu do that it would be been they had no book then. Gsu played a entire new book this game

Aaron Buggs TBH we can throw that new book narrative out the window. Honestly I was surprised and laughing at the fact thee Boom played field music against Gram, but it all about execution my brother. Music is music whether It’s for the field or stands. JSU has stiffer competition coming up no need to drop all your cannons on unworthy opponents. 🤷🏾♂️ Gram is not at a place where they can pull that off, but if the field music is better than anything in your book by all means please showcase it‼️

Grambling came to battle and looks like they did their homework and went back to some of the past battles where they took Ls and studied a little bit for this battle. Examples include Pretty Brown Eyes - SCSU hit them with that in 2009 Meac/Swac - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nMx1nbNn3rOqhas.html and the Maneater fanfare the JSU always play. That was clever of GSU and it would have nice if JSU had hit them back with it. Keep it up GSU, but let's not kid ourselves though, the difference is still clear, JSU got the W.
