Morning is 4am until 9:59:59, at which point mid-day takes over and lasts until late afternoon, or 4:00pm. Evening doesn't start until 5 pm so there is no knowing what happens between 4 and 5 pm, but I recommend hiding in a closet or under a bed, since it has worked perfectly well for me over the last forty years. Anyways, evening becomes night at 9:00:23 pm regardless of if the sun has set or not, because I have never been to Alaska. And finally, the Witching hours occur after midnight and before the morning. The end

How about the biggest plot hole I can think of... "Don't feed them after midnight".... Whose midnight where? Local time? Zulu? Japan time? When can you resume feeding them? Can you just never feed a Mogwai? So confusing...
@GrahamChapman
@GrahamChapman 6 жыл бұрын
I side with Roger Ebert on this issue: Trying to make sense of the Mogwai rules is missing the point. For all practical intents and purposes, Gizmo was an Eastern faerie bought in a Mysterious Little Shop in Chinatown, where, as per trope conventions, the ordinary rules of the visible universe cease to operate and magic is a reality. If you have problems with feeding Mogwai after the witching hour, then you're looking at the movie all wrong.

I think of that rule this way: The mogwai needs to sleep, right? So if he stays awake until after midnight, you can only feed him after he wakes up again. It is like a poison building up while awake and reacting with food. While asleep, the poison is removed and it is safe to be fed again.

Really? Why would you hate others being happy for something you don't celebrate? I don't personally celebrate Hanuka or Kwanzaa, or any of Canada or Australia or the UK's country-specific independence days or patriot days. But I do have friends in the religions and countries who do, and I always think its cool to hear about those things. I like knowing people all over the world celebrate a lot of different things and have fun in a ton of different ways and for different reasons. I don't need to take part to be happy for them. I mean, why not be happy that someone else is happy? Seems like a better way to spend your time.

It rains all the time on planet earth, not to mention the 70% surface coverage - how are these creatures not every-fuggin-where? Also, how are they not extinct from sunlight? What constitutes "after midnight"? Isn't that technically every moment other than midnight?Their very existence is unexplainable - even by their own rules.
@GrahamChapman

@whitewolfneely
@whitewolfneely 6 жыл бұрын
Your issue is that they are simultaneously to reproductive and easily destroyed? They cancel each other out. That easily explains why they aren’t everywhere but why some have survived (in both cases, caves provide cover from sun and water) Presumably they were discovered by someone, the rules determined through trial and error and captivity is the only place they are really found these days. That’s actually plausible
@ArtofLunatik
@ArtofLunatik 5 жыл бұрын
Kahlia Neely not only is it plausible, but thats actually why gremlins dont get seen anymore. WW2 was their most successful attempt at meddling with the human population by sabotaging their war planes and obviously after WW2 something happened and they had to go back into hiding in caves youve mentioned. Which is why i avoid caves and other secluded areas where it is devoid of sunlight.

Please don't get fired. Also, you made a mistake: Her closure of "That's how I found out Santa isn't real." makes a lot of sense. It's a bittersweet memory that also tries to brighten the mood after talking about how her father died. And since he died in a chimney we can conclude that he was always faking to be Santa in an attempt to make the her happy, which probably worked. So she indeed found out he's doing that for her the very moment she also found out he's dead. It does make a lot of sense in that way, granted it doesn't explain why on earth she would tell that right then and there but yeah... Still an awesome video!

Gremlins are neither good nor evil; they are the embodiment of chaos--which is why they go after both the good and the bad people in the town. They just don't give a f***! They are the monster of the movie, but they are also the stars of the show. So, they must reside in an in-between space. We can't fully hate or fear them, nor should we cheer them on.

That first point about no one being shocked of the gremlins made me think, I wonder if people of the pre-internet era would legitimately be less shocked when seeing a strange animal they have never heard of before? Theres no doubt the internet has had a profound impact over how we think. Maybe our instant access to worldwide information has made us more sensitive to the unknown, if that makes any sense? Looking things up on our phones has kind of become a natural reflex when we see or hear about something new, and we expect to find satisfactory answers quickly. Maybe its not *that* implausible that people from 25+ years ago could just dismiss Mogwai as being really strange animals from another part of the world they merely never heard about.

My theory about the voice over: The whole movie is actually Billy's father making up a bunch of shit to cover Billy's murder spree that day. He uses "supporting evidence" like the veteran to show that these creatures actually exist. He made sure not to implicate himself in the murders by being on a business call (suspiciously close to Christmas Day?). Daniel, you mentioned the science teacher who wasn't mentioned by Billy to the cops. That's probably the first person Billy murdered on his rampage. Whether his father is intentionally lying or he is delusional after experiencing such a rampage, that's to be determined.
@malogranatum4914
@malogranatum4914 7 жыл бұрын
When Dan brought up that Billie didn't tell the police about the dead science teacher, one of my first thoughts was, "Well yeah, because if he told them about the body, they would probably think that he was the one who killed the teacher, not suddenly believe him when he says gremlins exist and did it." So the idea that the movie is the story of Billie's dad trying to cover for his son after a murder spree is certainly an interesting theory that aligns well with my own thoughts.

*This is my new favourite OPCD episode.* Last one was the episode with the star wars race and the one creature that has his wife and several children watching the race live in person. So the whole family witnesses the crash and their sole provider's death live. Our host asks "Why did G. Lucas show us his family in the first place." which is a genius observation, he then imitates the sound the creature makes during the crash. I've shown like 30 of my friends this OBCD episode in person and shared it with thousands of contacts. Keep up the good work host!!! (Daniel right) ;]

I never see anyone mention that the Mogwais that turned to "Gremlins" had the exact same personality that they had before they turned. The only difference between the mogwais and the gremlins were that they were no longer fluffy and "cute". But the truth is that their personalities remained exactly the same. This means that even if Gizmo had been turned to the less aesthetically pleasing Gremlin version of himself he still would have been the goodie too shoes that he always was. In fact since he was the only Mogwai who remained fluffy and cute, one could make the argument that the metamorphosis of the Mogwai into the gremlin was a natural progressive step in its biological life span and that gizmo (being the only Mogwai who did not change) was much like a caterpillar who refused to turn into a moth. because being a moth doesn't fit into society's idea of what's proper for a caterpillar to be. However, The other mogwais seeing the pleasure of their natural life cycle did not attempt to escape this change and refuse their own natures but embraced them. The implication of this is that both of the Gremlins movies were in fact about a rebellion of the gremlins against the bourgeois ideals of civilization and its humanistic ideas of beauty and the resulting genocide perpetrated by the human ruling class and it species traitor ally named "Gizmo".

in defense of that idea George Lucus is basically the worst writer that Star Wars ever had, read into the extended universe and it gets way cooler, also he hates his fans, because Lucus actually doesnt care about the story or think it should even exist, for him basically the storyline of Star Wars is there to link between one lightsaber fight and another, also the same George Lucus who wrote dialogue for Anikin and Padmai's love story, such as the masterful "I never liked sand, it's coarse, and it's rough, and it gets everywhere", not to say i dont enjoy his work, but honestly if it werent for the nerds of the 80's looking for a nerdy show to nerd out to Star Wars would probably not have ever had a second series, this is exactly the right place in time for it too, with the advent of D&D and other table top games the larger narrative story would not be of interest to most people, it was the world that drew people in, and it always will be

It's a joke because Jack is leaving so Daniel could "finally" do this episode, lol, i.e. it's an idea Jack always hated so it was a little dig at Jack but also a joke so also kind of a going away gift. Sweet and hilarious and genius at the same time ... but that's just our Dizzy Daniel!

right. like as soon as a little bit of snow melted on a gremlin, boom, there's like six more gremlins.

This exactly! And then 36 more! I remember, even as a kid, when the first one fell in the snow, I went nooo!, expecting a major problem, but thank god that didn't happen. So relieved back then.

THIS IS QUALITY CONTENT! Every line in this whole thing made me either: a) smile; b) laugh loudly; c) makes a huming sound of agreement or d) stop the video to tell my girlfriend how awesome Cracked is. She wasn't thrilled.
